New hair cut.

During a dreary rainy day last week, I headed up to the Blue Ridge Parkway near Craggy Gardens. A bit south is a pull-out where you can find the Pixie Forest. It's a small area for a short hike through a unique patch of trees.
I converted this image to black and white using Silver Efex Pro from the Nik Collection.

Pixie is so disappointed as Ray has got the best house in the garden and seems to be laughing hysterically about it. (to be honest he's having a clean). I have recently refurbished the house and it now has an extra support for the health and safety of the cats.

After exactly zero apples last year due to a late frost, both our apple trees are more than making up for it this year.
This is Pixie Crunch, a small early apple on a dwarf root, bowing under the weight of more than 200 apples. I've staked branches several times now; one of the stakes has already broken.
Good for fresh eating, but I've also made two pies with it last week that were really delicious. Because they're quite small apples, making a pie takes a bit more time, but it's well worth it. The apples are sweet, with a well-rounded tangy-ness - I did not need to add any sugar at all!
This is a late bloomer for the studio 26 contact sheet assignment. I've worked on this a few evenings, but just couldn't get it done in time. Pretty large file to allow for some decent size for the small images.
(Bottom middle shows cedar apple rust damage. We don't spray, and we live in the northeast... So far the apples have not minded. More damaging are the thousands of caterpillars blowing in from the ubiquitous maple trees - you can see some holes in the large image -, but now that the trees are a little more mature, I can let the sparrows do most of the cleanup, and the trees leaf out with more leathery, stringy leaves after the worst infestation in early spring is over.)

Pixie knows all the best places to spy on the other cats. She's gone undercover but has nothing to report as the other cats are either asleep or not interested. The human with a camera keeps blowing my cover - so annoying ! >)
Hunter`s PXI 1319, an Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian, seen descending Royal Oak Way, Daventry, having just left the depot on a school contract. Sadly this vehicle has now been withdrawn, and the plates have transferred to a coach.

Once she drops her angst-ridden attitude, Kaye is a clever, courageous heroine with an appealingly wry voice, and Roiben is a gloriously damaged and darkly noble tragic hero. While most of the supporting cast has little to do beyond playing villains or victims, Black has an eye for the telling detail that brings the most minor character to life. A labyrinthine plot with Goth sensibility makes this a luscious treat for fans of urban fantasy and romantic horror.

When we have a visitor at the front door all the other cats run for cover as soon as there is a knock . Pixie, on the other hand, always hangs around checking out anyone who turns up.
The Flickr Lounge-Food & Or Drinks
I bought another large bag of these at Indian Creek Farm today. These apples are so good. They are so crunchy and sweet.
Some lenses seem to have pixie dust. A certain way of rendering that is quite magical and lifts the lens to a new level compared to other lenses. Or at least that's what the owners say :-).
The Helios 40 has this pixie dust, especially when it comes to swirly bokeh. People tend to love the swirls or find them distracting. (I love it). The lens's reputation for swirls does hide some other strengths, both the smoothness wide open and the rendering stopped down. 85mm @ f1.5 is a pretty special combination.
Had a lot of fun taking this photo, attached to a Spotmatic, with a Helios 44-2, and some white fairy lights. ...Yes, they were all white, no idea how the pixies turned them to different colours.....(it wasn't my processing - it was the blue tint/coating to the glass).
