I had hoped the ice had built up on the pinecones but, alas, it hadn't. It still turned out to be a fairly good shot.
I found this pinecone in the park this afternoon - something about its battered appearance interested me.
3 photos stitched together (top middle and bottom) with photoshops; Photomerge.
Near 1:1 macro I think, though not entirely sure.
Taken at ~70mm with the following set up.
60mm extender tube(s) with a sigma 55-200mm on a Nikon D40.
(All manual, due to non-CPU extension tube) So manual flash/exposure/focus.
F22 due to my lens not having manual aperture control, so the lack of CPU contacts on the extensions tube left the lens being fully closed.

I had never noticed before today that the "petals" on a pinecone spiral downward...Thankful for the warm weather today so that I could go peeping at the little stuff outside and noting such a small thing.. :)
