This plant gets its common name from the shape of the immature flower spike that looks like a pineapple.
Thank you everyone who visits. Special thanks for kind comments, awards and faves.
The Pineapple was built in 1761 by the Earl of Dunmore as a summerhouse where he could appreciate the views from his estate. At this time, pineapples were among Scotland’s most exotic foods.
What Can I Bring?
Perfect for: Cookouts. Add a little luau to your Southern baked beans with pineapple.
Make and take: Assemble ingredients ahead of time, then warm in the oven or in a slow cooker before serving. They can be served warm or at room temperature.
Made famous by: Dennis Faulkner of Cumming, who says the addition of pineapple makes these beans an instant hit.
A trip to the Pineapple today. An exotic folly near Airth which has a walled garden and, as I discovered today, a small pond which had some dragonflies. My attempts to capture Southern Hawkers in flight were not up to scratch but there were other stationary dragons around.
Sounds strange, but has great flavour.
Our Mom used to make it on occasion and have no clue where she got the recipe... but, must have been from an older cookbook.
I have her old recipe that she typed out on her little old portable Remington type writer all those years ago.
Been down and out with Covid...first time we've had it....and, yes, I've had the shots and the boosters too..... but, this was still NOT fun...and, .still have no sense of smell or taste...so have lost a few pounds. Don't feel like eating ... had no energy until yesterday.... been sick since August 10 .... I think I'm finally on the road to recovery.

Nearly all of the pineapples in our local Sainsburys come from Costa Rica and this is how they originally looked. They are members of the bromeliad family and Costa Rica certainly grows a lot.

Raw pineapple pulp is 86% water, 13% carbohydrates, 0.5% protein, and contains negligible fat (table). In a 100-gram reference amount, raw pineapple supplies 50 calories, and is a rich source of manganese (44% Daily Value, DV) and vitamin C (58% DV), but otherwise contains no micronutrients in significant amounts. with this kind of
nutritional value plus a great source of fiber, pineapple had been my dessert companion during this lockdown. these 3 pieces costs around USD2.00. best eaten chilled.

This is actually a photo from last summer that I forgot to share, but my pineapple lily, donated by my sister, is looking lush and green - hopefully it will flower again soon.
(Today I have a Flickr friend coming to see me, so hopefully I will get some photos of her with Harbie!!)

I saw this truck with pineapples on it at the grocery store. Pineapple on pizza is such a controversial subject. There are many people who hate it, such as my husband. And others who love it, like myself.
This is a 2 inch white pineapple just starting to grow in my backyard on the Big Island of Hawaii.
