The top quark is one of the six quarks predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics and one of the fundamental building blocks of matter.

This poorly composed photo is a fine example of polarisation.
Over my lens is a homemade polarising filter which polarises in a single direction. It has been adjusted to block the light being emitted from the LCD, as it emits light of a single polarisation.
Then these 3D (polarised) glass from Disney movies (mature) are place between the screen and my lens. It polarises the polarised light in a different direction to what the polarised lens is blocking, enabling me to see it!

I passed in front of this lecture room and only blackboard was illuminated. I work at the physics department so it was covered in equations. I remember when I was attending lectures with similar equations in Italy and I banged my head on them. I used to think I wasn't good enough and now I think I was just scared to death of failing. I still like those equations even though I don't do physics anymore. They are the reason I stuck around physics for so long.
Addendum: Them (the equations) and the LHC experiments. When this week the beams reached the 3.5 TeV threshold I was so excited. It has been such a long wait. :)
Knox College physics professor Tom Moses adjusts a Fabry-Perot interferometer that he and three of his students built in a physics department research lab, as part of a project to develop a lower-cost version of the instrument used to measure the wavelength of light.
Inside the Elliot Building at UVic, one of the first four campus buildings constructed in the early 1960s... and I don't think this has ever been renovated. I love the sign that looks to be hand-painted.
