Galilean Thermometer.

Invented hundreds of years ago it measures temperature using density and buoyancy of liquid in hand blown glass bulbs, suspended in water in order to measure the air tempurapture of the room.

Physics demonstration: Seeing is a term used in astronomy to describe how sharp the atmosphere is. If the atmosphere is still, we get good sharp views of the Universe and we call it "good seeing". This demonstration uses a heat gun to create "poor seeing", blurring our view of both the cosmos and the tree at the end of my garden.
