Side Pocket - Loree Jon Billiards on the Double-duce in Greenbrook, New Jersey
Back in the day, brother Bill and I used to shoot at Loree Jon Ogonowski's¹ place on 22. This is one of Bill's captures of me taking aim, just before banging the one ball in the side pocked, with enough draw to take the cue ball up table for my next shot at the seven in the corner.
Bill and I were so obsessed with "position", that we invented a new variation of "straight pool" that we called Po-pool, where the rule was to call "ball in pocket", for your NEXT shot (e.g. seven in the corner after the one in the side). So, you needed to know where the cue ball was going to wind up after each shot, in order to make your next shot. That pretty much put and end to big runs, and a run of 4 or 5 was considered a good run in Po-pool.
FYI - In Garwood, the Garwood Rest² and/or the Oakland House, was where you could find John Ogonowski (Loree Jon's father), and my father (a.k.a. Sawdust or Shorty) who were the two guys in town that pretty much drank for free (since if you won at 8-ball the looser had to buy you a drink)!
Part of the "free drink" plan was to get the winner so drunk he couldn't see straight enough to line up his shots. This didn't work with my dad, since he was was pretty much blind in one eye, so he had no issues with seeing double. Though, if you were willing to buy him 2 drinks, he'd surrender the table so you could shoot a game with a buddy.
¹ Loree Jon Ogonowski (born and raised in Garwood, NJ) was a childhood billiard playin' prodigy, that was (for a good part of her professional career) considered to be one of the best pool players (male or female) in the world.
² The Garwood Rest ("Where the beer is best!") was the bar in the film “The thing about my folks” where Peter Falk gets into a “bar fight” with a poor looser. And yeah, that was known to happen at “The Rest”, and my dad could attest to that!

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
For her school homework Sophia had to build a rocket powered by water and pressurized air. Here’s the beginning of a test flight, about 65 milliseconds after the clamp that held the rocket down on the launcher was released. Acceleration is astonishingly high - over 17g. The rocket has traveled only 14.5" (37 cm), but it has already reached a speed of over 25 mph (40 km/h).
The rocket is a 2 liter soda bottle with a soft nose cone and soft fins made out of upholstery foam and duct tape. The launcher is assembled from 1/2 inch PVC pipe and some PVC pipe fittings. A bicycle pump is used to pressurize the rocket.

Galileo Galilei (February 15,1564[3] – January 8,1642) who was an Italian astronomer, physicist, engineer, philosopher, and mathematician who played a major role in the scientific revolution during the Renaissance. Galileo has been called the "father of observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", and the "father of science". His contributions to observational astronomy include the telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus, the discovery of the four largest satellites of Jupiter (named the Galilean moons in his honor), and the observation and analysis of sunspots. Galileo also worked in applied science and technology, inventing an improved military compass and other instruments. Galileo's beloved elder daughter, Virginia (Sister Maria Celeste), was particularly devoted to her father. She is buried with him in his tomb.

Well I was shooting fall colors in Zion National PArk when I saw that they had forecast snow for Bryce Canyon, so instead of heading back to LA, I headed out to Bryce Canyon! And I was treated to snow, sun, clouds, snowstorm, and then a glorious sunrise over the s-capped hoo-doos in Bryce! :)

This was a crazy single droplet formation that I found interesting whilst playing with the consistency of milk, glycerine and washing up liquid detergent. The double reflection was achieved by using black reflective card and a piece of plain glass to bounce the droplet onto. The yellow colour comes from the washing up liquid and the purple comes from pink and blue gels placed over the 2 speedlites.
As the milk droplet was smaller than an inch in size I struggled with the depth of field when using a 90mm lens, the only compensation I found was to use a narrow aperture and the following camera settings together with a crop.

You know the story by now - it's just physics. Water drops refract the image of the flowers behind them. Pretty physics though.
In classical physics, that is the non-relativistic physics, the concept of time generally used is that of “absolute time”, which is independent of any perceiver. It progresses at a consistent pace for everyone everywhere throughout the universe, and is essentially mathematical in nature. This accords with people’s everyday experience of how time flows.
The so-called “arrow of time” refers to the one-way direction, or asymmetry, of time, which leads to the way we instinctively perceive time as moving forwards from the immutable past, through the present and towards the unknown future. This idea arises from physics, particularly from the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
Many discussions have been made about the real nature of time: is it really as we perceive it? Is it really an absolute concept, valid everywhere? Is there something more, something we cannot reach?
After his friend’s death, Einstein said: “Now he has departed this strange world a little ahead of me. That signifies nothing. For us believing physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” Einstein’s statement was not merely an attempt at consolation, it referred to the two pillars of modern physics: the general theory of relativity and the Standard Model of particle physics. The laws that underlie these theories are time-symmetric — that is, the physics they describe is the same, regardless of whether the variable called “time” increases or decreases.
Most physicists agree that time had a beginning, and that it is measured from The Big Bang, some 13.8 billion years ago. Whether, how and when time might end in the future is a more open question which we are not able to answer to, for now.

Nikon D810 Photos Pro Women's Surfing Sports Photography With New Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon!

Nikon D810 Photos Pro Women's Surfing Van's US Open Sports Photography Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD !
I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracles took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 14mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the brigth sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS< but still awesome and enough I felt!

Was using the B W 49mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter on bright, sunny day. Check out the low glare off the rocks and water and the bright blue sky! Super sharp images and crystal-clear pictures!

Loved shooting the awesome Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon Cameras! It was a bit tough sometimes to achieve optimum focus at F1.4 due to the shallow depth of field, but hey--not every eyelash has to be perfectly sharp! I could do it if I and the model were perfectly still, or F1.8 or F2.0 did the trick too. Kept switching it up! We had fun and she loves the photos! :)

From the golden spiral in the whirlpool galaxy and our very own milkway galaxy, to the golden mean of an athletic models' proportions, to the divine proportions found in a beautiful models' face, to the optimum curves and compositions of my fine art photography, I have found the Fibonacci sequence and golden number Phi to be omni-present. And so it makes sense that I found the golden spiral to naturally emerge in my physics theory--Dynamic Dimensions Theory--which postulates that the fourth dimension is expanding at the rate of c relative to the three spatial dimensions, giving rise to relativity, the quantum, and time and all its arrows and asymmetries. Yes! I have a pPh.D. in physics! Photons of ligth are but matter which surfs the fourth expanding dimension en route to creating a beautiful photograph.
And yes I am working on a book combining my philosophies on Phi, fine art photography, physics, the golden mean and number, the divine proportion, and the natgural emergence of the Fibonacci numbers in life and beauty. The book, filled with my photography aongside classic poetry, epic physics, and philosophy, will be called The Golden Hero's Odyssey. :)
