Photo of the physics building at the Universiy of Minnesota. All sorts of adjustments here. I liked the moody feel of the dark sepia and kept the holga script adjustment just on the sky.
For the earliest students, information can be hard to find as the early records can sometimes be incomplete however we can search the class lists to find out who attended what classes. As you can see, this page lists those who attended ‘Physica’, or ‘Physics’ and you will also notice the convention, found in the early student records, of translating the names into Latin for example ‘Duncanus’ for ‘Duncan’ and ‘Gulielmus’ for ‘William’. Until the late 18th century, Latin was the language of academia and at the University of Glasgow lectures were conducted in Latin until around 1730.

Braunstein Hall was built originally to hold the physics department in the College of Engineering. It was designed by prominent Cincinnati architect Edward Schulte.
White light from a carbon arc lamp passes through a glass prism, and is dispersed, forming a rainbow on the white horizontal screen.
Second electron gun. The physics is the same as before: The element emits electrons (blue ring) which are curved in a magnetic field, which is generated by the copper ring. The difference in colour between this and the other electron gun is due to a different gas inside the sphere.

My first photo project of the year. Shows that image distances can differ from object distances (all Lego dudes are same distance from camera but all can not be focused at once). Simple idea which will crush Ben on contest day
A friend of mine recently taught a great lesson on how easy felling a tree is when you apply a little physics and some proper tools.
This is the illustrious Duke University Physics building. It was built in 1950s in the popular "ugly brick and cement" style. Googlemapped location.

An important thing to remember is that even though pixel sizes keep getting smaller and smaller, the technology is advancing, so the smaller pixels are more efficient at collecting light. For instance, the Sony A7rII is back-illuminated which allows more photons to hit the sensor. Semiconductor technology is always advancing, so the brilliant engineers are always improving the signal/noise ratio. Far higher pixel counts, as well as better dynamic ranger, are thus not only possible, but the future!
Yes I have a Ph.D. in physics! I worked on phototranistors and photodiodes as well as an artificial retina for the blind. :)

High energy physics is challenged by unresolved mysteries—from missing particles predicted by the standard model to the 95% of the missing mass in the universe. To fulfill these missions, particle accelerators rely on continuously increasing acceleration gradients, now beyond the actual technology.
The Department of Energy’s Office of High Energy Physics recently awarded Argonne $3.3 million to improve the performance of superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities. The uniqueness of Argonne’s approach is to combine a recent synthesis technique, which combines atomic layer deposition with an original solution to improve and/or cure radio frequency niobium cavities: a multilayer structure composed of superconducting-insulating films synthesized on the inside walls of the cavity. This effort is being developed in close collaboration between Argonne’s High Energy Physics, Energy Systems and Materials Science divisions, as well as Jefferson Lab, Fermilab, Illinois Institute of Technology, and several other universities.
