"A universe comes to contribute to our happiness when reverie comes to accentuate our repose. You must tell the man who wants to dream well to begin by being happy. Then reverie plays out its veritable destiny; it becomes poetic reverie and by it, in it, everything becomes beautiful. If the dreamer had "the gift" he would turn his reverie into a work. And this work would be grandiose since the dreamed world is automatically grandiose." from The Poetics of Reverie by Gaston Bachelard

This one is for GERI aka Born 2 Be Mild. I don't know when and how I stumbled upon Geri's stream but I surely am glad I did. I could never forget her 5-CARROT RING POST. If I recall that was the very first of her photos I commented on. And I knew right there and then that I had to stay connected to this wonderful lady - now a treasured friend - because if there is someone on Flickr who can make me laugh, she certainly can. She may not know it, but it was Geri who inspired me to capture droplets on flowers and leaves. And that is why I am dedicating this droplet, this "dreamed world" to her. I hope she finds it worthy.

Santes Creus spirit born in 1150, when the Montcada family gave the first location of the monastery in Valldaura del Vallès. The first date, but in possession of the place of Santes Creus in the valley of Gaia we find the 1158. Given the jurisdictional disagreements between the bishop of the archdiocese of Barcelona and Tarragona, the monastery was the victim of a lawsuit that led to his secondment was free of any diocese. The main facade of the church, surmounted by battlements, XII century Romanesque doorway and features a large window with a Gothic. The plant is a Latin cross, is closed behind the altar and reredos, Josep Tremulles (seventeenth century), with a large rosette. Also has three sturdy ships and five chapels abacales, near the main altar are located the tombs of Pere II the Great (thirteenth century) on the one hand, and of James II and Blanche d'Anjou (XV century) on the other. The monastery converted into a royal pantheon by the first of these kings was fortified during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The monastery preserves two cloisters, the tourist entry replacement is Gothic and Romanesque previous one, which is the only temple of the washing.

i oftentimes look far and wide for magic in my life only to realize that it is everywhere and anywhere where i happen to be. the past week spent with four dear friends, great photographers, whom i've only known virtually on Flickr has been magical. we were blessed with gorgeous sun moments. the rains managed to stop when it was time for us to get our cameras and shoot. and we shared many a joyous moment. pretending to be castaways on this island. having a hard time opening a can of tuna. walking barefoot on a shore strewn with shells, driftwoods, black corals, flip-flops and what-have-you's. it was a magical time. and at that very instance when i took this shot, i was saying a prayer of thanksgiving for all the magical moments - and the friendships - which certainly will keep me on the hold for a lifetime.

and to those of you who haven't yet met my friends, here they are with me in this now famous jump shot - Mirror, mirror on the shore. . .

...Please leave your taste on my tongue.

It's 2:30am

I can't sleep

and I'm in an editing mood.

This picture is from awhile ago. I just rediscovered it.

and I was thinking a lot tonight and I got a lot of inspiration from other photos today.

I want to start writing a lot more on here. I guess you could call it journaling. But I want to look back years from now and know what I was thinking today....about this picture, life, anything.

I remember this day perfectly (in this picture) Eric took me to this park. I wish I could remember what it was called but it was amazing. This lake was huge and it couldn't have been a nicer day. and we rode the bike there which was even better. but I just remember feeling so free. Everybody who was there was just off doing their own thing. I saw this boy sitting on this bench singing and playing his guitar, and I envyed him for a minute. It just seemed like he didnt have a care in the world for that moment and he probably didnt, and then I realized neither did I. becasue I had everything I needed right there. I had the person I love more than anything in the world and who loves me back right there with me, and I was doing what I loved, taking pictures and running in the grass barefoot. and I wish everyday could be like this day but I know they won't be, and that's why I want to write about it, so I can come back and read about it, and relive it when I need to.

this picture is for Lauren Withrow as she finished her 365 project today.

when I came home today it was dark already and I thought I couldn’t take the pictures I wanted to. but then I came up with something. I turned on the headlights of my father’s car (I always use it to get to locations) to create that lighting. but still, I didn’t take that many pictures as I was alone on the edge of the forest and I was actually scared. but I wanted to have something for Lauren.

the picture of her I printed is the first one in comments of this one.

I posted my favourites of all her pictures in the comments, too.

Lauren,

today is the end of something that accompanied you for a whole year. but it’s also the start of something new.

the picture I used is the first one I ever commented of your photos. it means a lot to me because it’s been the reason for looking at other pictures you took, it’s the reason for me falling in love with your work.

I discovered you in july this year but at the time you were only another new contact after I gradually started to use flickr regularly. in the beginning I have been impressed by your ability to use simple things like sunlight. but then I started to have a closer look, to behold your expressions, your poses. I started to read what you were trying to tell, and at some point I felt like I was able to understand. it hasn’t been until august that I finally wrote a comment as I wanted to tell you how much I liked your work. I’ve been the happiest girl alive when you added me back. ever since I checked every single picture you uploaded. and I didn’t just have a short look at it. I surveyed them all, trying to comprehend what you’ve been feeling. looking at your pictures is one of my favourite things to do. I mean that. they are full of life and emotions, they’re not just ‚pretty‘ or ‚amazing‘, they tell a story. your personal story.

I began to read your descriptions, I tried to understand them. I really like that you don’t just tell what you’ve been feeling like, you show with your photos and the associated words. I felt like I got to know you better, also because of our flickrmails. I noticed that you are a person who does things for her own good, not to please others or let alone for others. I realized that I could accept everything you do and believe in because of that. there have been times in my life when I met people who told me they believed in god and I just couldn’t comprehend. as I told you, I haven’t been ‚taught‘ that religion and I have never been interested in it, so that belief is somehow weird in my eyes, sometimes even repellent. but talking to you made me realize that I admire your view of things. not in the way that I wanted to change and believe in god, too, but I just liked how you know and accept that there’s something that helps you to keep going and you apply it to yourself without wanting to convince others. I like talking to you so much because you write in a very mature way, you are able to accept what others think, and when you include your point of view, you don’t impose anything on the reader, you just tell how you feel like.

also, you helped me a lot since I got to know you. earlier this year I was thinking of my work and how I felt like I pretended to be someone I’m not, how I showed emotions I didn’t feel at that moment. but once you told me that every feeling you show in your pictures was real, that you felt like that sometime in your life, either while taking the pictures or at some point in the past. that made me think and I realized that I do the same thing. I just didn’t know. every feeling I retained in my pictures so far is actually true to the marrow, I just wasn’t aware of the fact that I sometimes reproduce feelings I had a long time ago. I wanted to thank you for making me comprehend, you probably don’t know how much that means to me, how good that reversal point felt. but thank you. truly. but most of all I am thankful for how much you inspired me the past weeks.

sadly I haven’t been following your work from the beginning, but I had a look at many of your pictures and I’m planning on going through your whole 365 sometime soon. I just want you to know that in the past 4 months that I’ve been watching your work, I learned a lot. you taught me how to use lighting and how to express myself, even though you probably didn’t intend to. you made me think beyond so many times, you made me feel with you or smile with you or be truly happy with you, just by allowing me to view your work.

I think you are very special and at this point I can say that you are one of my favourite photographers. you are and I hope that you will be in the future, too.

I am kind of sad about you finishing this project as I know that I won’t see as many self portraits as the past weeks, maybe even none at all for some time. I think I somehow became hooked on viewing your pictures every day. :) but nevertheless, I am happy for you because I know that you’ve been waiting for this day to come for a long time, even though you might be quite nostalgic today. I am happy that you made it, that I had the chance to take part in it. I am truly happy for you. and I think I will like whatever you will do next. you said something about new projects you had in mind a few weeks ago and I’m very excited for what you will come up with, even if I won’t see you in those pictures. you will still be taking them and you will be putting feeling into them just like you did the past year.

I hope to see many new photos from you in the future and I hope I can still read some updates on your life because I really like to find out more about you.

you enriched my world, Lauren, and I wish you all the best. for now and for tomorrow and for the rest of your life. you are unique.

[I’ve been thinking of you all day long. today was Lauren-day. :)]

I wrote that yesterday because of time difference and I hate that I can only post it as the hundred-what-not-th comment. but actually it doesn’t matter.

I had goosebumps while reading your text. I just got up, 4 minutes ago, I couldn’t wait to see your picture. I didn’t expect this. you created something more beautiful and more expressive than ever before, in my opinion it’s the perfect end for your 365. I can see that end in your picture. your expression says it. but I can also see the beginning of something completely new.

You outdid yourself. right now this picture is one of the prettiest things I have ever seen. I am not just saying that, I’m feeling that way.

I still have goosebumps. I would like to write more about the picture but I’m too tired and not able to speak.

just remember

It’s perfect. It’s perfect.

It’s perfect.

I will write you a flickrmail tonight.

you are magical, Lauren.

Your photography is a record of your living - for anyone who really sees. You may see and be affected by other people's ways, you may even use them to find your own, but you will have eventually to free yourself of them. That is what Nietzche meant when he said, 'I have just read Schopenhauer, now I have to get rid of him.' He knew how insidious other people's ways could be, particularly those which have the forcefulness of profound experience, if you let them get between you and your own personal vision.

The Cistercian monastery Vyšší Brod (German Hohenfurth monastery) is located in the same village in the district Vyšší Brod Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1259 and is 750 years since a spiritual and cultural center of southern Bohemia.

Since the monastery and the small lake are surrounded of a two meter high fence, I had to climb a venture to make at all from one location this photo.

So I've been playing around with composites more. Its really amazing to be able to create a world right on your computer. I often have trouble justifying that it's photography, when it comes down to it, it's not. Because it was always something I loved to do, and so many people told me to go into graphics instead. Although I'm sure I could eventually use my own stock photos and it could be photography?

Also, I really enjoy doing sort of an informal 365. I never really thought I could do one if I was actually in one, but flickr in general motivates me to create lots of work. More work, and more creative work, than what I do while in school. Which is sad.

Mälardrottningen (The Queen of Lake Mälaren) - a luxury yacht - (built 1924) originally given to Barbara Hutton on her 18th birthday .

Barbara Hutton was an American socialite dubbed by the media as the "Poor Little Rich Girl" because of her troubled life. She was the only child of Edna Woolworth, who was a daughter of Frank W. Woolworth, the founder of the successful Woolworth five and dime stores.

Since 1982 Mälardrottningen is operating as restaurant and hotel, permanently moored at Riddarholmen Stockholm, Sweden

Mälardrottningen is also a pet name for Stockholm City - so you could say:

The eleventh episode of the Shadows Of Nar Eurbrikka just went live on Eurobricks. The Rebels take their stolen supercomputer to the rural surface of the planet Kuat, known for its shipyards located on a ring surrounding the planet. Meanwhile, the Empire does everything it can to get the precious computer back - or so it seams...

I had the honor of doing some of the promotional images for this episode, and you see the result above. The supercomputer was the main thing to build, and I enjoyed finally having the opportunity to use walkie-talkies as details, something I've been wanting to do for a while now. I had to restrain myself from using lots of grey in order to keep the contrast high, so I forced myself to use white, and I think it looks pretty good. The ladders were a nice way to quickly build a wall while retaining a high level of uniform detail that doesn't disturb the image. The ground layer was new for me. I've been looking at the way castle builders deal with rocks for a while now, and I think it's fabulous. Now I finally more or less get it because I wanted to use it in this creation to keep the cross section of the ground from becoming too cartoonish, so I'm pretty happy with the result, and will probably be using the technique in future creations. Finally, I had a lot of fun playing with the vegetation. My fellow organizers suggested to use the lavender stalk piece, so I did. I might have gone a little overboard with it, but that's the beauty of digital creations. I needed a piece to match it though, and the lavender palette is quite restricted. I ended up finding this hairpiece from the elves line, which I had to use a substitute for because it isn't available digitally. But it resulted in some pretty alien vegetation I really dig.

This is the first creation on which I really tried to fully embrace the capabilities of my render program (that's Blender), since it allowed me to have two distinct lighting conditions for the two parts, which helped to create the contrast in the picture. I tried to keep everything logical though, so all of the lights you see could theoretically be replaced by LEDs etc., so I hope you appreciate it. Another big task was to apply the decorations, because I had to make them all myself. I'm pleased by how the stormtroopers turned out in the end, because it was a real pain to match the image with the complicated geometry of the helmet. Once that was done, it was on to rendering. It took about twelve hours spread over two sessions, and the underside is still quite noisy, so don't zoom in too much there ;) I guess with a real camera you can run into similar issues too though, so I think it's sufficient.

So I hope you like it! I really enjoyed working on the contrast between technology and nature, indoor and outdoor, grey and color to create a nice picture. Be sure to check out the newest episode of SoNE on Eurobricks!

Yeah let's go

To the sand, the purest sand

Into the sea, yeah let's go

Leaving reason far behind

Nothing here is cruel or kind

Only your desire to set me free…

Let us lie here all alone

Worn away like river stone

Let us be the sirens of the sea

I've been exploring some highly personal aspects of my life lately with the project, and it feels right. I think there are others out there that can relate to these aspects of life, and when you inspire or touch others it makes it all worth it. To me, this is just one of the many things that makes a good photo. If you look within, there is a tale of longing that this photo tells... a longing to hold the hand of someone who isn't afraid to follow wherever I might go... I promise to never lead you astray, and I will light our way. But not before the time is right. I'm ready. Are you ready... yeah? Let's go...

What:

Part 3 of the Peggy's Cove tour, Finally!!

When:

Just as the sun was setting last Sunday evening. About 5 minutes before the last shot I posted.

Where:

Peggy's Cove

Nova Scotia, Canada

About:

So, continuing from part 2... this was taken from exactly the same spot on the dock in PC but I turned about 45 degrees to right. So if I can manage to stitch these three shots together I shot be able to get over 180 degree view of the cove. I don't really have any shots looking behind where I am here but it certainly isn't as picturesque as these three views. To get another angle or perspective of where I am here, check out this photo from last week where I put a note right on this dock. It was shot from the road down at the end of the cove. You can see the little dory there if you look really close.

Processing:

This was shot with the normal 3 frames bracketed (0,-2,+2ev) and I manually blended the exposures in photoshop so I could get the proper sky combined with the proper foreground exposures. I did a layer of curves and a little tweak of the shadows/highlights. After resizing and posting I can see it's over saturated but what the hell, it's meant to look like a postcard! :-)

Please, no invites or crazy glittery graphics. Just a comment is nice. Thank You

So today was my second day in Edinburgh, still getting used to this whole driving on the left side rule. Quite odd to get used too especially when you see little old ladies driving down the street and you think to yourself "NOBODIES DRIVING THAT CAR!!!" But I do have to say the round-abouts are quite nice keeps traffic moving and they are a bit fun to drive around.

So this is the window in my room and I was thinking it would be a great location for a photo. I almost used it last night but then decided I wanted some daylight for it. So I took this!

Tomorrow we head up to Loch Ness and I sure hope the Loch Ness Monster makes an appearance cause it would be quite swell to take a photo of it. Maybe even hop in and take my 365 with it! haha.

Anyhow hope your doing well or whomever read this far! :)

This is Pol, aka..Goliath !...He is a giant of a man, while i was sat on a bench having an in depth chat about life, and his role in it , when i suddenly realized that i knew him many years ago.

Back in his heyday he was a bouncer on the doors of many an establishment i frequented..many Bristol locals would remember him from the Thekla, late eighties early nineties, as the dominating figure on the door.

He then went on to explain that he was also head of security at many famous Festivals like Glastonbury,Reading, Leeds etc etc...But !, because of the nature of clubs and festivals he ended up an alcoholic, drinking maybe thirty cans of strong larger a day !.

so much of his time is spent sitting around on streets drinking allday.. however he does have a house, and a big house in the most sortafter part of Bristol, yet he spends most of his time on the streets.

during our conversation he mentioned that he had enough of life atleast three times, this had me worried..so i said i would pass by and sit with him for a chat xmas eve.

I know i was fueling his addiction but i bought him a couple of beers to say thanks for the photos, this put a beaming smile on his face, RESPECT he said !

as i was leaving he called me back, he offered to repay my gift of beer with some old photography books he had.. i didn't want to take his books but i saw it as a chance to see him more over the lonely xmas period, if only to make sure he is well and happy..

he is the most gental of giants with an honest heart, and most of all he is my new friend. merry xmas all

Phacelia - bee plant

This is an annual herb which grows erect to a maximum height near 100 centimeters. The wild form is glandular and coated in stiff hairs. The leaves are mostly divided into smaller leaflets deeply and intricately cut into toothed lobes, giving them a lacy appearance. The very hairy inflorescence is a one-sided curving or coiling cyme of bell-shaped flowers in shades of blue and lavender. Each flower is just under a centimeter long and has protruding whiskery stamens. The seeds are "negatively photoblastic", or photodormant, and will only germinate in darkness.

CAT:

mi è gradita come l'aria notturna,

fresca in confronto all'estate calda del giorno.

Che bello, non sto pensando a niente!

Non pensare a niente

è avere l'anima propria e intera.

a niente...

Rockhopper penguins are small, aggressive, crested penguins so named because of the way they hop from boulder to boulder when moving around their rocky colonies. Rockhoppers are a sub-Antarctic species breeding at cool, southern localities such as Macquarie Island, the Falklands, Campbell Island, Tristan da Cunha, and the Antipodes.

Rockhoppers have distinctive crest feathers on their heads, bright orange-red bills and tiny blood red eyes. The top of the head has spiked black feathers. Like all penguins, Rockhopper have a big head, a short, thick neck, a streamlined shape, a short, wedge-shaped tail, and strong, stiff, flipper-like wings.

Hello Flickr!

Last weekend Scott and I went to our familiar haunt of Pacific Grove/Monterey to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks early (there was a sale at our favorite b&b!). It was a gorgeous weekend and very relaxing for us both.

Plus, Scott COMPLETELY SHOCKED ME by surprising me with a 50mm f/1.4! He put it on my camera while I was out of the room and it took me over 12 hours to notice it. He was playing a game of chess with himself at one point and I felt compelled to shoot his hand with some of the chess pieces. Upon trying to use the focus ring on what I thought was my 50mm f/1.8 (I've broken two of those this year, btw--and that one was my third), I became utterly confused. Why did this lens feel, look and act differently than I remembered? I then conducted a thorough inspection of the lens, slowly realizing that no I was not dreaming -- it actually WAS a 1.4! :D

I love Scott and his kindness, generosity and ability to surprise me ♥ My birthday isn't until a week from tomorrow, either!

I'm Proud Of This

This is a fleshy perennial which grows on coastal cliffs and rocks ! The pale pink 5-petalled flower (8 - 12mm across) differs from other Sea spurreys in that it doesn't have a white centre ! The fact that the flowers have equal size petals and sepals also helps to differentiate this wildflower ! Each flower has 10 stamens, the narrow, flattened leaves have fine points and the plant, which blooms from June to September, reaches about 20cm high ! It is one of the native plants of Ireland and it belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family !

Having purchased a wild flower book late last year, I was attracted to it being sectioned by colour, I decided to give it a go and found this little gem ! As part of I.D. clarification I found an interesting site from which I took the above info' and have E-mailed, providing my flickr account link, hoping that I' m right ~

Taken about 50 yards away from where the swan is in the water. The fence on the left is the canal lock and just below that is where the swan was sunning his self. It's a lovely walk along the old towpath which could turn into a nine and a half mile hike which would take you all the way to the River Derwent.

Restoration of the canal began in 1971 and is still ongoing with a section being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest - and consequently, all restoration and activity has to be by agreement between British Waterways and Natural England.

So basically it will be done right....................

Another RogueOlympics entry, where the prompt was “Balance”. Which brought to mind the design principle of balance, with the simplest version being symmetrical balance. Cue a very fun day building this spaceship and playing with the color-scheme. Between it and the display stand, 100 elements were used.

Lake Pichola, situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. The lakes around Udaipur were primarily created by building dams to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the city and its neighborhood. Two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are located within Pichola Lake, and have been developed with several palaces to provide views of the lake.

Three of the numerous lakes found in the vicinity of Udaipur which connect with the Pichola lake built by Maharana Dharma Chand Pichholiya and the Saroop Sagar Lake connected by an arched bridge built by Maharana Swaroop Singh (1842-1861) which in turn connects to the Fateh Sagar Lake, the crystal watered lake in the midst of tree lined hills and the smaller Arsi vilas.

Today was the worst weather of the winter, and we were walking into the wind and it was COLD. My little Californian cried a little into her 17 layers!

But then we went to replace my holey boots and found some sexy pink-trimmed combats. It's totally cool to match the person you're hopping on.....right? (You can't really tell how awesome our boots are in my shots, but Xelia's shot really shows their glory).

We finally set aside the time to do official photo shoots. The problem was that I like our shots too much. It took me Hours to choose which shot to use!

The deserted Santa Cruz de Wheels is located near the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes in the municipality of Puerto de la Selva (Alt Empordà). This is a core population that is abandoned and in ruins. On this site you will have news thanks to his parish church of St. Helen Rhodes, from which 974 are from the news. The start was probably due to neglect pogressiu severe episode of Black Death that was implemented in 1345 and also affected the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. Traditionally supported already in the thirteenth century it suffered a major depopulation following the participation of a large proportion of the population in the conquest of Majorca, they were. In 1572 the church of Santa Croce in Rhodes (already at that time had changed as the Santa Helena) lost its parish status, which indicates that the site had to be practically deserted. In addition to the famous church of Santa Croce in Rhodes, which is the only building that remains in relatively good condition, the interest of the site lies in the fact that it was enclosed by walls, which still kept some traces, particularly with regard to two sites: the north wind and midday. The remaining buildings are limited to stone walls between the vegetation.

From Wikipedia:

Southbank was formerly an industrial area and part of South Melbourne. It was transformed into a densely populated district of high rise apartment and office buildings beginning in the early 1990s as part of an urban renewal program. Though few buildings built before this time have been spared redevelopment, Southbank does retain some significant heritage including many buildings in the major cultural precinct at the St Kilda Road end and some warehouses and wharves towards the area now known as "South Wharf".

The central feature of Southbank is Southgate Arts and Leisure Precinct, a retail, eating, and entertainment precinct on the southern bank of the Yarra River. Southgate features the iconic sculpture Ophelia by Deborah Halpern, which is the big Y symbol (representing Melbourne) that stands at Bear Brass cafe. The entertainment precinct extends along the Yarra and includes Crown Casino. The suburb also includes an office precinct and a hi-density residential precinct which has many skyscrapers, the tallest of which is the Eureka Tower. The Queensbridge Precinct includes Queensbridge Square, a pedestrian plaza and meeting place.
