This is probably my favorite portrait that I have taken, it is not a great photo or some kind of masterpiece, but it speaks volumes to me. I have a younger brother that is my best friend, I have always felt this need to really watch over him. You see, my parents did not speak English when they first came to this country. The culture and country was completely new to them, me and my brother felt lost sometimes. Me and Steve saw these young brothers walking home from school, they had just gotten off the bus. The youngest one, Dee, had his ice cream cone and it was melting and running down his hands. His older brother, Darrell, took the ice cream cone and fixed it up for him and then handed his brother a napkin to clean his hands off. He then put his arm around him and they began walking. I watched all this and was reminded of the many times I did the same for my younger brother. It was a very endearing and awesome scene to watch unfold.

Enjoy,

Hector

wow, I can still see after all that work! (see last photo if you do not know what I mean...) but now I am off to another 12 hour shift... shudder... at least I love my job taking care of these 6 elders!!! They are like my moms and dads!

update... it is now 9am on Monday, and I am running away once more to the mountains, and no work today or "fingers crossed" Tomorrow! woo woo, more time to play... and next coming up in Bird Creek Meadows we are starting to see RED foliage on the low growth alpine huckleberry plants! oh dear... so pretty, but it means SNOW is right around the corner up there, and no more trips to my fave spot after another month!

so I am gonna run and enjoy it all... thank you all SOO MUCH for the wonderful comments, awards, faves, invites... sorry I am not taking time today to put it in all the groups, but the mountains are calling my name! You understand....

About 6 a.m., I wake up early to catch what the light at sunset two days before has not given me. Perhaps the fact to be alone them...in truth there are other two crazy persons as me, but the silence and the atmosphere are such that I succeed in isolating me. A face to face with the nature, one of that moments that only certain places succeed in transmitting. The group of the Latemar is mirrored in the lake of glass, a caress to the eyes .. .( sorry for my bad translate )

Taken this evening (Sunday 11/4/10) at St Mary's lighthouse, Whitley Bay.

Originally I'd planned to head to Bolam Lake this evening. I hummed and harred, the sky looking flat and grey other than a blue band over the sea. At 7:30 I decided I'd head out and ended up at old faithful.

Overly photographed but never fails to impress!

For this picture I went up to a near hill with my backpack and umbrella while lightnings and rain were still near.

I hoped to take lightning pictures after the thunderstorm gone by. I was careful enough to wait for a free sky above it before I went up.

Because of too much evening daylight I was not able to make long exposures, so I tried some hundred pictures with exposure of only half a second.

When I hit a lightning, I made a row of different exposures for HDRI immediately after that for combining them.

It took over an hour to have the luck of hitting this, but I think it was worth the effort. The Thunderstorm is over Essen, neighbour of my town Gelsenkirchen.

Another night shot from Lima in Peru. We had a dinner at the restaurant to the left.

The Porta Nigra is a magnificent 2nd-century Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It was given its name (which means "black gate") in the Middle Ages because of its weathered color.

History

The oldest defensive structure in Germany, the Porta Nigra was erected in about 180 AD when the Roman city was surrounded by walls. Trier was a Roman colony from the 1st century AD and then a great trading centre beginning in the second century. It became one of the imperial capitals under the Tetrarchy at the end of the 3rd century, and became known as the "second Rome."

The Porta Nigra is the only one of four Roman gates that still stands in Trier; the others were gradually pillaged for their stone and iron. The Porta Nigra survived because it was used as the humble residence of a hermit monk named Simeon for seven years (1028-35). After his death he was buried in the gate and the structure was transformed into the two-story Church of St. Simeon (lay church on the bottom, monastery church on top).

Napoleon destroyed the church in 1803, but the 12th-century Romanesque apse survived and the entire structure has been restored to its medieval appearance.

What to See

1,700 years after its construction, the Porta Nigra is still impressive at 118 feet long, 70.5 feet wide and 90 feet high. The entire structure is made without mortar - the sandstone blocks are connected only by iron rods. The stone blocks weigh as much as six metric tons each.

Two gateways lead into a small inner courtyard, where unfortunate intruders would be trapped and covered in tar. Above are two tiers of defense galleries with large open windows. It is flanked by two towers, a four-story western tower and the three-story unfinished eastern tower.

Inside, an empty apse at the east end and carvings of church fathers like Irenaeus, Ambrose and Jerome recall the Porta Nigra's use as a church.

One of my favorite things is to drive up and down the Northern California

Pacific coastal highway looking for new areas to photograph. I have

collected a number of shots of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse and swear I will

avoid it this next time but inevitably I stop and take more images and it

seems to always pay off.

As you head south from San Francisco you first get a glimpse of the

lighthouse as you pass around a bend in the road. It grabs your attention

as the area is generally flat. A flashing Coast Guard light replaces the

magnificent 24 beam first order Fresnel lens. Fortunately each November

they revert back to the days of old and light the main 24 beams of light

which extend to the horizon. The lighthouse is one of the tallest on the

California coast and was constructed after the Carrier Pigeon and several

other sailing ships ran aground on the rocks just off shore. Modern

technology has since made the structures obsolete and there is not much of

any effort by the government to maintain the lighthouses. Pigeon Point now

belongs to the State of California and is in a sad state of disrepair which

is why you see the unattractive chain length fence surrounding the base.

When I first visited the lighthouse it was open to the public and I took my

then young kids to the top for a view they still remember to this day. It

was quite a climb to the top up the spiral staircase but once there the view

was stunning. Point Arena Lighthouse looked exactly like this one at

Pigeon Point unit it was destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake. It has

since been replaced by a large cement structure that while functional lacks

the beauty of design seen in the Pigeon Point Lighthouse.

This image makes a great Windows (and probably Macintosh) desktop

background.

i'm feeling a bit ill today and don't have the energy to process a whole lot of my more recent images -- the best i can offer today is this image of a tavern that's hidden away at the windmills area in chios (tolis has a beautiful gallery). i couldn't see it from the road -- i spotted it only when i was walking around the windmills themselves.

i don't know how, but my train of thought led me to imagine a huge party for flickr friends and contacts, with everyone holding a camera, shooting each other and looking for something interesting.

i'll try to get around to your streams today -- (it cheers me up!) -- but i hope you forgive me if i don't succeed.

If I could tell the world just one thing

It would be that we're all OK

And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful

And useless in times like these

I won't be made useless

I won't be idle with despair

I will gather myself around my faith

For light does the darkness most fear

My hands are small, I know

But they're not yours, they are my own

But they're not yours, they are my own

And I am never broken

Poverty stole your golden shoes

It didn't steal your laughter

And heartache came to visit me

But I knew it wasn't ever after

We'll fight, not out of spite

For someone must stand up for what's right

'Cause where there's a man who has no voice

There ours shall go singing

My hands are small I know

But they're not yours, they are my own

But they're not yours, they are my own

I am never broken

In the end only kindness matters

In the end only kindness matters

I will get down on my knees, and I will pray

I will get down on my knees, and I will pray

I will get down on my knees, and I will pray

My hands are small I know

But they're not yours, they are my own

But they're not yours, they are my own

And I am never broken

My hands are small I know

But they're not yours, they are my own

But they're not yours, they are my own

And I am never broken

We are never broken

We are God's eyes

God's hands

We are God's eyes

The Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)

is a passerine bird of the family Icteridae found in most of North and much of Central America. It breeds from Alaska and Newfoundland south to Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and Guatemala, with isolated populations in western El Salvador, northwestern Honduras and northwestern Costa Rica. It may winter as far north as Pennsylvania and British Columbia, but northern populations are generally migratory, moving south to Mexico and the southern United States. The Red-winged Blackbird is sexually dimorphic; the male is all black with a red shoulder and yellow wing bar, while the female is a nondescript dark brown. Seeds and insects make up the bulk of the Red-winged Blackbird's diet.

The Red-winged Blackbird nests in loose colonies. The nest is built in cattails, rushes, grasses, sedge, or in alder or willow bushes. The nest is constructed entirely by the female over the course of three to six days. It is a basket of grasses, sedge, and mosses, lined with mud, and bound to surrounding grasses, or branches.[7] It is located 7.6 cm (3 in) to 4.3 m (14 ft) above water.[13]

A clutch consists of three or four, rarely five, eggs. Eggs are oval, smooth and slightly glossy, and measure 24.8 x 17.55 mm (1 x .7 in)[13]. They are pale bluish green, marked with brown, purple, and/or black, with most markings around the larger end of the egg. These are incubated by the female alone, and hatch in 11 to 12 days. Red-winged Blackbirds are hatched blind and naked, but are ready to leave the nest 11-14 days after hatching.[6]

Red-winged Blackbirds are polygynous, with territorial males defending up to 10 females. However, females frequently copulate with males other than their social mate and often lay clutches of mixed paternity. Pairs raise two or three clutches per season, in a new nest for each clutch.[6]

Predation of eggs and nestlings is quite common. Nest predators include snakes, mink, raccoons, and other birds, even as small as marsh wrens. The Red-winged Blackbird is occasionally a victim of brood parasites, particularly Brown-headed Cowbirds.[9] Since nest predation is common, several adaptations have evolved in this species. Group nesting is one such trait which reduces the risk of individual predation by increasing the number of alert parents. Nesting over water reduces the likelihood of predation, as do alarm calls. Nests, in particular, offer a strategic advantage over predators in that they are often well concealed in thick, waterside reeds and positioned at a height of one to two meters. Males often act as sentinels, employing a variety of calls to denote the kind and severity of danger. Mobbing, especially by males, is also used to scare off unwanted predators, although mobbing often targets large animals and man-made devices by mistake. The brownish coloration of the female may also serve as an anti-predator trait in that it may provide camouflage for her and her nest (while she is incubating).[14] Owls and diurnal raptors are both regular predators of adults.

I'm wondering why

These little black clouds

Keep walking around

With me

With me

It wastes time

And I'd rather be high

Think I'll walk me outside

And buy a rainbow smile

But be free

They're all free

So maybe tomorrow

I'll find my way home

So maybe tomorrow

I'll find my way home

I look around at a beautiful life

Been the upperside of down

Been the inside of out

But we breathe

We breathe

I wanna breeze and an open mind

I wanna swim in the ocean

Wanna take my time for me

All me

So maybe tomorrow

I'll find my way home

So maybe tomorrow

I'll find my way home

Yesterday I returned to the scene of the crime to see if that big puddle was still there and if there would be anything nice reflected in it again. It was quite a different scene then the two days before, and I was absolutely delighted to find that this time I didn't need to stand in the puddle in order to get a nice reflection shot, and also that I could shoot in the opposite direction and get a more interesting background (with the closer oak trees and such)

It was kinda crazy, but I literally got out of my car, walked over to this spot, set up the tripod, fired off the camera ... and this is the first shot I took. OMG! It was the first shot I took and when I looked in the viewfinder I couldn't believe how sweet it was. I don't think I got another great shot all afternoon but I really didn't care.

This was also my first time using a tripod for landscape work. Wow. Can't believe the difference. Doesn't it look sharper than my other landscapes? I used to do everything hand-held, then very recently moved on to using a monopod, then after my last sunset shoot I was really wishing I had a tripod so I ordered a good one yesterday (decided to spring for a manfrotto after reading all the reviews). The tripod I used yesterday was my friend's that I borrowed. It was cheap and I was grateful to have it but it made me so happy that I had sprung for a higher-quality one!!

Using a tripod also made me think a LOT more about each shot, and whether or not it was really worth it, which I think will be good for me. I tend to take a lot of mediocre shots just because I can and then when I get home I have to wade through so much junk and do a lot of culling. If I am forced to be more selective about what I shoot I think that will be an improvement!

We have been working on him losing a bit of weight. I can't have a fat dog. You couldn't feel his ribs anymore. He is so handsome isn't he and very sleepy here too.

After driving around and around and around the volcano on roads that barely qualify as roads and after hopping over barbed wire fence after barbed wire fence, I finally managed to find a nice shot of the volcano. It was not easy to get that horse to cooperate with me. I had to figure out how to say, "I am not a glue-man" in Spanish.

It becomes hard to breathe, but it feels incredible and there are no words to be said. Even if it's about pain, it feels so good. Sometimes you know why the music does this to you, and sometimes you don't. It doesn't matter, the feeling just takes over and you crumble. The music isn't always good, and it's not always your favorite. It can be something you hate, but you feel it on an entirely different level.

This feeling is something everyone can relate to. If you can't, my heart goes out to you and somehow I hope you find it.

I'm honestly on the verge of tears right now. Not because I'm sad, but out of joy.

It pulls out your soul.

Lay beside me-Tell me what they've done-And speak the words I wanna hear

To make my demons run-The door is locked now-But it's open if you're true-

If you can understand the me-Then I can understand the you

Lay beside me-Under wicked sky-Black of day-Dark of night

We share this paralyze

The door cracks open

But there's no sun shining through

Black heart scarring darker still

But there's no sun shining through

No there's no sun shining through

No there's no sun shining

What I've feared

What I've known

Turn the pages

Turn the stone

Behind the door

Should I open it for you

Yeah!

What I've feared

What I've known

Sick 'n' tired of staying alone

Could you be there

Cause I'm the one who waits for you

Or are you unforgiven too

Come lay beside me-This won't hurt I swear-She loves me not

She loves me still-But she'll never love again-She lay beside me

But she'll be there when I'm gone

Black heart scarring darker still

Yes she'll be there when I'm gone

Yes she'll be there when I'm gone

Dead sure she'll be there

What I've feared

What I've known

Turn the pages

Turn the stone

Behind the door

Should I open it for you

Yeah!

What I've feared

What I've known

Sick 'n' tired of staying alone

Could you be there

Cause I'm the one who waits for you

Or are you unforgiven too

Lay beside me

Tell me what I've done

The door is closer on your eyes

But now I see the sun

Now I see the sun

Yes now I see it

What I've known

I take this key and I bury it in you

Because you're unforgiven too

Cause you're unforgiven too

Happy Thursday my friends!!!!!!!thanks for the visit, comments, notes and fave!!!

On the location of Norway House, built by Edward Mortimer, claims were made that lights and sounds came from an old wooden building falling into decay. When the building was torn down these strange happenings ceased. LINK to photo - www.novastory.ca/digital/collection/phps/id/181/

(11 January 1913) - PICTOU, Nova Scotia – The large, stone Georgian building that until a week ago stood on Norway Point in Pictou was a house of rich history. In its 200 years, it was officially called many names: Mortimer House; Norway House; Maritime Odd Fellows Home and The Edward Mortimer Inn.

Edward Mortimer, born in Scotland, came to Pictou about a decade after the ship Hector landed with Scottish settlers. He started working in the lumber business, but quickly came to own and operate a number of successful natural resource firms. He became a leader in the community as a member of the Pictou militia and a member of the house of assembly. Mortimer’s influence earned him the nicknames ‘King of Pictou’ and ‘our Oat Meal Emperor from the East.’ According to historian Susan Buggey, Mortimer began Norway House in 1810, a “massive stone residence for which he brought out skilled Scottish carpenters and masons.” It was completed in 1814. Though he was once one of the richest men in Nova Scotia he was deep in debt and died penniless in 1819. His widow continued to live in the residence until 1834, at which time it was sold to Edward Smith. Smith was a well-to-do employer for the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Griffin, a newsletter published by the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, says Smith named the residence Norway House, after the Hudson Bay Company post in northern Manitoba. After Smith died, the house soon found its way to Donald Smith, another successful HBC employee who later became the company’s principal shareholder. He later was dubbed Lord Strathcona. In his storied career, he helped found the province of Manitoba, was a member of parliament and co-founded the Canadian Pacific Railway. His place in history was secured when he drove the last spike into the first railway to span the country.

Lord Strathcona had homes all over Canada and tried to convince family members to live in the house full time, to no avail. His stepson inherited the house when Lord Strathcona died in 1914. The building was converted from a private residence into a home for the aged in 1922. It was purchased by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Atlantic Canada. It had the distinction of being the first ‘Home’ of its kind in Atlantic Canada. In 1975, the building opened its doors to the general public. Previously, the home had only been available to individuals involved with the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Order.

The house is perhaps best remembered as an icon of a bygone era, a symbol of Pictou’s connection with one of Canada’s distinguished men, whose life not only reflects the 19th century, but, as Donna McDonald says in her biography of Lord Strathcona, “closely mirrors Canada’s passage to nationhood.” “It is sad to come across the causeway and see the icon of Pictou's past gone,” says Henderson. “But perhaps it will be replaced with the beginning of the next chapter.” LINK to the complete article - www.saltwire.com/atlantic-canada/news/local/a-look-back-a...

While most of Valentine’s cards were photo based landscapes, they also produced an Artotype series in the early 1900’s that reproduced artist drawn illustrations. These were more brightly colored than their typical cards because they were produced through tricolor printing. Their Mezzograph series was produced as a tinted collotype, only here the collotype was in blue, which gives these cards a heavy and mannered look.

The Valentine & Sons' Publishing Co., Ltd. Montreal and Toronto / Printed in Great Britain

The earliest Canadian postcards published by Valentine & Sons were uncoloured collotypes of scenery along the main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway north of Lake Superior and in the Rocky Mountains. Typically, Valentine postcards have a 6-digit serial number (###,###) on the view side with the initials “J.V.” in a circle adjacent to that number. The main series of numbering begins with a Halifax card as no. 100,000 and ends (as far as we know) with a postcard of Toronto as no. 115,981. There are also two short runs of numbers in the 400,000 range that are found on some cards from the Yukon Territory and a longer run of views from various parts of Canada that begins at 600,000 and continues past 602,000.

100,000 – 1905 (July)

101,000 – 1906 (August)

102,000 – 1907 (January)

La Malbaie was named by Samuel du Champlain in 1608.

La Malbaie, a riverside community first settled in the 17th century, owes its name to Samuel de Champlain, who spent the night here only to find that the bay went completely dry at low tide – "Ah! La malle baye!" he bemoaned.

ENGLISH

The expression “to have elf” (tener duende) is used mainly in the Community of Andalusia to designate to the person whom has a special enchantment (synonymous, also of the lexicon Andalusian, to have angel) or whom is enabled for the art in some of its manifestations. The inspiration has often been compared with “elf” hidden that lives in some place of the soul of the artist, to whom it puts in grace state, and that is the one that activates the creative process.

The expression “to have elf” became very popular after its use by the poet Federico Garcia Lorca in a famous speech that had like subject “'duende' in the flamenco art” and in that it praised the artistic virtues and almost magicians of the famous flamenco singer Niña de los Peines.

The morning after..

Heart On Black

I was in New Orleans for business and had gone the night before to dinner & to see the famous "Bourbon Street". It lived up to it's reputation, lol...as I was getting ready for bed I was thinking about all the people & mess (beads, garbage) I saw on the street. I wondered what it would look like the morning after..so, I got up at 6 am (didn't sleep much, excited wondering, lol) and wandered over there before my 8 am meetings. I got there at 6:35, but it took almost 10 minutes for my lens to defog and I was able to shoot..lol (I did try to shoot anyway - no dice) My lens wasn't completely fog free here but I was missing the best...

As most things it looked a lot different in the light of day!

The truck had jet hoses and two guys (one on each side) that blew the trash into the middle of the street and then a big sweeper truck sucked it all up...

It was sooooo humid all the windows were fogged, someone (staff I guess) drew the heart in the resturant window. 2nd Photo - It made me think of Adri ( <---there ) and this beautiful shot she took somewhat along these lines...

Be well my friends...the party is not over yet, not by a long shot! lol

Dear Santa,

I’ve been a very good boy this year. For example I helped the world economy by buying a new D300, Tokina 11-16, a new back pack and all kinds of accessories. I didn’t swear that much nor did I drink too much. I didn’t do anything bad to my sister and listened to my mommy and daddy. I listened, that doesn’t mean I did what they said.

So this year I’d like a new tripod as my 25 year old Manfrotto is just not as good as a new one. Oh yeah, considering how good of a boy I’ve been, maybe you can load that sleight of yours with a new Nikon D3 and a small smorgasbord of FX lenses. While you are at it, throw in a Mac Pro and MacBook – don’t be cheap on the memory and disk space as that won’t take any extra space in your sleight.

I’d also like to broaden my photographic creativity. It was a toss up between coin photography and boudoir. The sheer excitement off handling exotic coins was too much for me so I’ve opted for boudoir. I’ve got absolutely everything I need for this except for one thing, willing models! So could you trade in that old red sleight of yours for a big yellow school bus and fill it with models. Don’t forget to leave that back seat for all the wonderful camera gear you plan on giving me.

Oh yeah one last thing. I have so many good Flickr friends and they too have been very good this year. So could you please rent a U-Haul trailer to hook behind that bus and load that puppy up with camera gear, both Nikon and Canon. Then go through my contact list and drop off a little surprise to each of them.

Your good buddy,

Pierre

P.S. No need to waste your time to confirm how good I was with my wife, sister, mommy or daddy. I’d hate to get into a debate on semantics. Good is good!

Radagast the brown? That guy with the bird poop in his face?

-Exactly! ;)

About one year ago Peter Jackson brought us the first Hobbit movie and i love it like the three Lord of the Ring movies. I'm especially a fan of the nice landscapes and great settings. Not at least they are phenomenal inspiration for MOCs i build and MOCs i will build.

One of my favorite characters of the movie is of course Radagast. His outfit, doing and in particular his house are so strange and unique but that makes him so cool.

My realization of this hut was build for the Bricking Bavaria 2013 in Munich and a i really liked the challenges this build gave me. And especially to solve them and find a solution.

I hope you like it. More pictures on MOCpages and in my Photostream.

Bus stop

- tjah, mitte just järjekordse foto tegemise üle koduteel...

See bussipeatus on Pestalozzi algkooli ees, kus Paula 2. klassis käib (ja Wanda 4 aastat käis).

Wanda had her first theatre abonnement trip to Vienna today and Paula came with me to meet the children's bus at the gymnasium. The weather is getting warmer again and the nights are lovely. She was very excited about the play and so happy! - Well, not with me wanting to take a photo at the bus stop on our way home...

Foggy winter morning at Pitt Meadows near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

About this photo: Well, we've been battered by some snow storms here on the west coast of Canada in the last couple of weeks. In the area where I live we must have received about a foot (about 30cm) of snow if not more. The last dump of snow came to us on Monday morning and since then it has been freezing cold with temperatures below freezing, but the snow was replaced by blue skies and sunshine. I finally have been able to go out and enjoy the sunshine in the last couple of days.

That morning I had to take my mother in law to the hospital in Maple Ridge for cataract surgery. She would be there for about 3 hours and while she was getting her eye drops done and the procedure I decided to venture out and drive to beautiful Pitt Lake which was not far away. As I approached the lake I see lots of fog and when I am walking towards the lake the sun starts hitting the fog and I am in awe standing there while the fog rises and swirls around me. What an amazing sight. I cannot capture that feeling in a photo, but I hope this photo will give you an idea of how beautiful it was to stand there! As I looked back, the sun was hitting the fog while those 3 people were standing there flying a drone. It looked so serene.

Some information on the Pitt Lake area: Pitt Lake is located in Grant Narrows Regional Park in Pitt Meadows which is about 45 minutes east of downtown Vancouver. Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, being about 53.5 square km (20.5 square mi) in area. It is about 25km (15.6mi) long and about 4.5km (2.8mi) wide at its widest, and is also one of the world's largest tidal lakes, its confluence with the Fraser being only a few miles upstream from that river's estuary into the Strait of Georgia. Its southern tip, where the Pitt River resumes, is 40km (25mi) east of downtown Vancouver.

The upper Pitt River valley is a typical U-shaped glacial valley in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. The over-deepening of the lower end of the valley over the span of the Wisconsin glaciation created a trough over 140m (462ft) below current sea level. After initial glacial retreat at around 13,000 years ago a saltwater fjord occupied this basin when relative sea levels were still ca 120m (396ft) to 140m (462ft) above current levels in the region. Unlike neighbouring Indian Arm and Howe Sound farther west this fjord basin became cut off by sedimentation of the lower Fraser River by ca 10,500 years ago and is now considered a tidal fjord lake.

The community of Pitt Meadows occupies the marshy lowland at the southern end of the lake, some of which has become drained and is known as the Pitt Polder. Just southwest of the lake is the community of Port Coquitlam, which is across the Pitt River from Pitt Meadows. At the north end of the lake is a locality named Alvin, which is a transport and shipping point for logging companies and their employees. The Upper Pitt, meaning the valley upstream from the lake, is considered BC's best fly-fishing rivers and one of its best steelhead streams.

The lake is popular with boaters and canoeists, but is prone to heavy winds and rains as well as big waves (due to its great depth). The mountain range on its east flank comprises Golden Ears Provincial Park, its basin to the north is in southern Garibaldi Provincial Park, while the mountain range on its west, northeast of Vancouver's Coquitlam Lake watershed reservoir, is Pinecone Burke Provincial Park. The waterfront and foreshore of the lake and river are public-access and include extensive migratory wildfowl habitat. There is a destination golfing resort in the Pitt Polder area called Swan-e-set.

The area along the east side of the lake is somewhat famous for being the reputed location of Slumach's lost gold mine, the location of many failed and sometimes disastrous searches for the alleged murderer's lost gold mine. (Info from Wikipedia)
