This is another shot, from a series I took a while back, of a Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) running across the road with a grasshopper in it's beak.

The similar shot (below) is the most viewed, and most interesting, shot in my photostream.

I captured this image of the Tricolored Heron at the Shark Valley section of Everglades National Park in Florida. According to Wikipedia, the Tricolored Heron (formerly known in North America as the Louisiana Heron, is a small heron and a resident breeder from the Gulf of Mexico states of the USA and northern Mexico south through Central America and the Caribbean to central Brazil and Peru. There is some post-breeding dispersal to well north of the nesting range. Tricolored heron's breeding habitat is sub-tropical swamps. It nests in colonies, often with other herons, usually on platforms of sticks in trees or shrubs. In each clutch, 3–7 eggs are typically laid. This species measures from 22 to 30 inches (56 - 76cm) long and has a wingspan of 38 inches (96cm). The slightly larger male heron weighs about 14 /12 ounces (415gm) on average, while the female averages 11.8 ounces (334gm). It is a medium-large, long-legged, long-necked heron with a long pointed yellowish or greyish bill with a black tip. The legs and feet are dark. Adults have a blue-grey head, neck, back and upperwings, with a white line along the neck. The belly is white. In breeding plumage, they have long blue filamentous plumes on the head and neck, and buff ones on the back. The tricolored heron stalks its prey in shallow or deeper water, often running as it does so. It eats fish, crustaceans, reptiles, and insects.

Accommodations in the Amazon aren't that plentiful. Our choice was Ariau Towers. For those familiar with the Survivor TV Show, this was the hotel the film crew stayed in during the taping of Survivor: The Amazon. The hotel looked like it had seen better days, but then again the conditions are rather harsh. It's hard to describe how much the area floods, hence everything being built on stilts. Some of the more famous guests have included Bill Gates, Jimmy Carter, Susan Sarandon, Alanis Morissette, etc... This picture is the interior of one of the towers. Our room was the one on the left.

With all that said, probably one of the things I will remember most from this location was our guide. He told us of how they would paddle on the river two hours one-way to the nearest school each day. He was currently in the midst of teaching himself his fifth language. His determination to better himself was inspiring.

Enjoy the weekend.

Not completely happy with today's 365 photo... but that's okay. You can't win them all!

I suppose this is my attempt at getting in the spirit for Christmas (which I'm really not.)

I'm miss home and bucket loads of snow! Scotland is great, but there is no snow (and probably wont be for Christmas! Boooo) Though, there is no shortage of hot chocolate with baileys and curling up under warm blankets, so that is nice!

Song of the Day - St. Vincent (with Andrew Bird) - What Me Worry

(this video makes me react in unexplainable ways... it is probably what I would consider the best video on youtube... so PLEASE watch it! Oh, and also... I fucking LOVE the lyrics, and can relate to them in a big way)

"What me worry? I never do

I'm always amused and amusing you

Sans le fear of impending doom

Life is like banquet food: pleasure to peruse

Do I amuse you, dear? Would you think me queer

if while standing beside you I opted instead to disappear? Disappear

In no hurry I'll sing my tune

All my skies the hue of a ruddy bruise

In my finest threads couture I'll call up my favorite muse

for a drink - half full - or two

Have I abused you, dear? You have had it to here

You say, "Love is just a bloodmatch to see who

endures lash after last with panache"

In the spring I'll dust off my lute, stuff my suitcase full of blues

and stir the dust underneath the thrust of my clicking heels

C'est la vie

What me worry? I never do

Life is one charming ruse for us lucky few

Have I fooled you, dear?

The time is coming near when I'll give you my hand and I'll say,

"It's been grand, but... I'm out of here

I'm out of here" "

Molly shot this months ago and then somehow it got lost. She posted a similar shot but my leg wasn't fully extended and my tummy wasn't as rad....I'm not sure how that happened. But anyhow, if you're not already looking at her stuff, you should get an eye on it. I made her rummage through old photos searching for a funny one of me from a while back, and she should have that up soon. Laughs guaranteed for all.

While I'm pimping, if you haven't been watching him, Brendan is settled in Antarctica and pretty happy with his cold little life. He has absolutely kept his promise of Penguin Pictures. And Seals. And Whales. And Icebergs. And Sunsets. And Landscapes. And Seascapes. He doesn't post daily like most of us addicts, but when he does he usually has something that is astounding. I've accepted that National Geographic photos exist....but it's pretty amazing that some ordinary bloke is living a life where there are more penguins than people..

In other news, thanks for all the well-wishes for my dad. He is finally out of the hospital. Apparently he has pneumonia, and a dangerously slow heartbeat. They are talking about a pacemaker. Scary. But he seems to be out of the woods right now, so that's good. If I can figure out logistics, I'll be moving back to Portland in just over a month, so no more long-distance freakouts for me!

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever Gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance,

My head is bloodied but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the horror of the shade.

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how straight the gate,

Nor how charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

-- William Ernest Henley

At the age of 12 Henley became a victim of tuberculosis of the bone. In spite of this, in 1867 he successfully passed the Oxford local examination as a senior student. His diseased foot had to be amputated directly below the knee; physicians announced the only way to save his life was to amputate the other. Henley persevered and survived with one foot intact. He was discharged in 1875, and was able to lead an active life for nearly 30 years despite his disability. With an artificial foot, he lived until the age of 54. "Invictus" was written from a hospital bed.

Nissan Patrol

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Nissan Patrol (Japanese: 日産・パトロール Nissan Patorōru) is a series of large four-wheel drive vehicles manufactured by Nissan in Japan since 1951.

The Patrol is generally regarded as a tough and utilitarian 4×4 in Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, Europe, Japan, and the Caribbean, where it competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser which is its main rival in those markets.

In the United States and Canada, it competes in the luxury SUV segment where it carries the upscale Infiniti brand.

The Patrol has been available as either a short-wheelbase (SWB) three-door or a long-wheelbase (LWB) five-door chassis.

The LWB version has also been offered in pickup truck and cab chassis variants alongside the wagon."

(...)

"(...) in some European countries the Patrol was, for a short while marketed by Ebro [Spain] as the Ebro Patrol."

(...)

- Third generation (1980–1989)

. 160 (1980–1989)

"The 160 series was introduced in 1980 to replace the 60 series. In Australia, these are officially known as the MQ Patrol. In 1980, the engines available were the L28, P40 and SD33. All models were available with a four-speed manual transmission, albeit a three-speed automatic was optional on long wheelbase vehicles fitted with the L28 engine. All 160 series Patrols came with a two-speed offset transfer case, which featured a 1:1 high gear and a low gear."

(...)

"In 1983, the MQ model was updated. These are commonly known as an MK Patrol, however this does not appear on any Nissan literature or service manuals. Nissan parts dealers do not recognise these initials either.

Updates included revised front end with rectangular headlights and an upgraded front suspension.

The four-speed gearbox was revised and a fifth gear was added for most models.

The four-speed was still used in some lower specced utes, presumably to run out stock.

A high roof ("Super Roof") version of the wagon was added at the same time, which was also when the SD33T turbodiesel option was first made available. With 110 PS (81 kW) the turbodiesel can reach 145 km/h (90 mph)."

(...)

"These were the last Patrols to carry the Datsun brand—in line with the rest of the Nissan lineup, the Patrol lost its Datsun branding in 1984 in most markets."

. 260 (1986–2002)

"The 260 series was a Spanish-built version of the 160 (easily spotted by the rectangular headlamps) sold in Europe and was available in SWB and LWB with L28, SD33 and RD28T engines. The SD-engined version, at least in the UK market, had a 24-volt electrical system.

Nissan Ibérica-built Patrols also received a Spanish-made Perkins diesel engine and Spanish transmission to meet local content regulations It also helped Nissan Ibérica amortize plant investments.

The 260 Patrol later received a facelift with a new grille similar to that of the Y60 series which succeeded this generation elsewhere.

Spanish production continued until 1994 for export and until 2002 for the Spanish domestic market."

I had a shoot yesterday that was billed as a competition between photographers, sort of a "Battle to Win". However, since it took place in the hard core inner city--shooting amongst graffiti laced walls while dodging traffic--I prefer to call this competition 'Urban Combat'.

There were about a dozen photographers and an equal number of models, however as I worked with just a few models, I will post images from those 4 here.

Enjoy!

____

UPDATE: Oct 23 ... VOTE FOR ME

It finally happened--the competition website is up and running.

I'd really appreciate if you can take a minute and vote on my pics...just click on the pics (Photographer 11) and then underneath it select the rating...5's would be fantastic. :-)

Note: We were officially allowed to submit 2 pics per model we'd shot with, however at least half of the other photographers went overboard and flaunted the rules entirely, some posting 4, 5, or even 7 pics of several of their models! C'est la vie.

UPDATE: Oct 21

The organizer had a change of heart and thanks to the help of another photographer has decided to let me back in to the competition, saying something about it not being fair to the models if I was not part of this. However, I still have no answers for what happened earlier. :-(

Even I had to catch my breath in awe and had to scratch my head when I found this antique timepiece at an auction. I knew I just had to bring it home. It is in a perpetual state of rigor mortis. But ever as exquisite and beautiful, or at least close to being what it once looked like...

This is the closest I could get to an era when time was held precious, when time was unhurried unlike of today... Perhaps a period when every advance of the hands signified what a golden age was...

I am a pathetic romantic for nostagia, eh?

Oda a mirar pájaros

Ahora

a buscar pájaros!

Las altas ramas férreas

en el bosque,

la espesa

fecundidad del suelo,

está mojado

el mundo,

brilla

lluvia o rocío, un astro

diminuto

en las hojas:

fresca

es la matutina

tierra madre,

el aire

es como un río

que sacude

el silencio,

huele a romero,

a espacio

y a raíces.

Arriba

un canto loco,

una cascada,

es un pájaro.

Cómo

de su garganta

más pequeña que un dedo

pueden caer las aguas

de su canto?

Facultad luminosa!

Poderío

invisible,

torrente

de la música

en las hojas,

conversación sagrada!

Limpio, lavado, fresco

es este día,

sonoro

como cítara verde,

yo entierro

los zapatos

en el lodo,

salto los manantiales,

una espina

me muerde y una ráfaga

de aire como una ola

cristalina

se divide en mi pecho.

Dónde

están los pájaros?

Fue tal vez

ese

susurro en el follaje

o esa huidiza bola

de pardo terciopelo

o ese desplazamiento

de perfume? Esa hoja

que desprendió el canelo

fue un pájaro? Ese polvo

de magnolia irritada

o esa fruta

que cayó resonando,

eso fue un vuelo?

Oh pequeños cretinos

invisibles,

pájaros del demonio,

váyanse

al diablo

con su sonajera,

con sus plumas inútiles!

Yo que solo quería

acariciarlos,

verlos resplandeciendo,

no quiero

en la vitrina

ver los relámpagos embalsamados,

quiero verlos vivientes,

quiero tocar sus guantes

de legítimo cuero,

que nunca olvidan en las ramas,

y conversar con ellos

en los hombros

aunque me dejen como a ciertas estatuas

inmerecidamente blanqueado.

Imposible.

No se tocan,

se oyen

como un celeste

susurro o movimiento,

conversan

con precisión,

repiten

sus observaciones,

se jactan

de cuanto hacen,

comentan

cuanto existe,

dominan

ciertas ciencias

como la hidrografía

y a ciencia cierta saben

dónde están cosechando

cereales.

Ahora bien,

pájaros

invisibles

de la selva, del bosque,

de la enramada pura,

pájaros de la acacia

y de le encina,

pájaros

locos, enamorados,

sorpresivos,

cantantes,

vanidosos,

músicos migratorios,

una palabra

última

antes

de volver

con zapatos mojados, espinas

y hojas secas

a mi casa:

vagabundos,

os amo

libres,

corolas

fugitivas,

así

os amo,

inasibles,

solidaria y sonora

sociedad de la altura,

hojas

en libertad,

campeones

del aire,

pétalos

del humo,

libres,

alegres,

voladores y cantores,

aéreos y terrestres,

navegantes del viento,

felices

constructores

de suavísimos nidos,

incesantes

mensajeros del polen,

casamenteros

de la flor, tíos

de la semilla,

os amo,

ingratos:

vuelvo

feliz de haber vivido con vosotros

un minuto

en el viento.

One of my very favorite songs by her, "Silent All These Years" -

Excuse me but can I be you for awhile,

My dog won't bite if you sit real still,

I got the anti-Christ in the kitchen yellin' at me again

Yeah I can hear that

Been saved again by the garbage truck

I got something to say you know but nothing comes

Yes I know what you think of me you never shut up

Yeah I can hear that

But what if I'm a mermaid, in these jeans of his

With her name still on it

Hey but I don't care 'cause

Sometimes, I said sometimes

I hear my voice and it's been here

Silent all these years

So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts

What's so amazing about really deep thoughts

Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon

How's that thought for you

My scream got lost in a paper cup

I think there's a heaven once the screams have gone

I got 25 bucks and a cracker do you think it's enough

To get us there 'cause...

What if I'm a mermaid in these jeans of his

With her name still on it

Hey but I don't care 'cause

Sometimes, I said sometimes

I hear my voice and it's been here

Silent all these -

Years go by, will I still be waiting

For somebody else to understand

Years go by if I'm stripped of my beauty

And the orange clouds raining in my hand

Years go by, will I choke on my tears

'Til finally there is nothing left

One more casualty you know

We're too easy easy easy...

Well I love the way we communicate

Your eyes focus on my funny lip shape

Let's hear what you think of me now

And baby don't look up, the sky is falling

Your mother shows up in a nasty dress

It's your turn now to stand where I stand

Everybody lookin' at you

You take hold of my hand

Yeah I can hear them...

But what if I'm a mermaid, in these jeans of yours

With her name still on it

Hey but I don't care 'cause

Sometimes, I said sometimes

I hear my voice

I hear my voice

I hear my voice and it's been here

Silent all these years

I've been here

Silent all these years

Silent

All these

Silent all these years

Diwali,or Deepawali, (also called Tihar and Swanti in Nepal) is a major Indian and Nepalese festive holiday, and a significant festival in Hinduism and some of the other faiths which originated in India - Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, particularly the Newar Buddhists. The Sanskrit word Deepavali means an array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. As the knowledge of Sanskrit diminished, the name was popularly modified to Diwali, especially in northern India. The word "Divali/Diwali" is a corruption of the Sanskrit word "Deepavali" (also transliterated as "Dipavali"). Deepa/dipa means "light of the dharma", and avali means "a continuous line". The more literal translation is "rows of clay lamps".

Finally after three years we meet again! I visited Beelitz back in 2011 when I just started exploring abandonements (view my set here www.preciousdecay.com/index.php/portfolio/beelitz-heilsta...)

At that time I was less experienced and the location made that much of an impression to me, that I knew I had to go back there once. And finally this moment has come. This place is in my opinion one of the ancestors of urban exploration. Pure decay, barely touched by vandals, in buildings which breathe history.

This complex was built in the end of the 19th century and was used as a sanatorium for patients with lung tuberculoses. The buildings are surrounded by forest and the architecture was very modern for these times. Equiped with balcony's where patients could enjoy suntherapy and other revolutionary therapies took place here. It was mainly the poor people who suffered from tuberculoses, but if you were either poor or rich: Everybody received the same treatment. Patients were given lots of fresh air, sunshine and excellent food. The women were seperated from the men to avoid mass infection. The buildings were even built in a way that the washing area is situated in the women's building and the coal house was near the men's building.

In the 1st and 2nd world war, the sanatorium was used as military hospital for the German forces. Even Adolf Hitler has been a patient here when he was treated for a wounded leg. During the 2nd world war, the place was heavily bombed by the allied forces.

When the war was over, Beelitz was occupied by the Russian forces for a long time. It has been in use as a military hospital until the Russians left in the early 1990's. Since then it has been left abandoned. When you walk here, you can almost feel what has happened between these walls.

what I love about street photography in Tokyo is that you just never know what you are going to see (or, quite often, if what you're seeing is actually happening...)

I had just crossed the street with a group of friends, leaving the madness of a crowded matsuri behind me, and I looked to the right and saw this photo in front of me - all alone with his rabbit and in a world of his own...

3100 S. Kedzie (Building “D”)

Permit #100280220

Date received: 3/5/09

Address:

Ward: 22

Applicant: DMD Services, Inc.

Owner: Chicago Public Schools

Permit Description: Demolition and removal of four-story brick building “D” [damaged from fire]

Status: Under review

The old Washburne Trade School has been torn down bit by bit over several years. A permit request to demo the remaining structures was recently filed after a 4 alarm fire flared up inside one of the abandoned buildings. The remaining structure seems to be in good shape and the building could very likely be converted but at this point in time it is hard to see who would want to take on that type of project in the current economic environment.

Washburne's last days are quickly approaching.

Kuran-ı kerim'de israiloğulları ile ilgili ayetlerden bir kaç tanesi;

BAKARA SÛRESİ (83)

Hani biz İsrailoğulları'ndan "Allah'tan başkasına ibadet etmeyeceksiniz anne babaya yakınlara yetimlere yoksullara iyilik edeceksiniz herkese güzel sözler söyleyeceksiniz namazı kılacaksınız zekatı vereceksiniz" diye söz almıştık. Sonra pek azınız hariç yüz çevirerek sözünüzden döndünüz.

MÂİDE SÛRESİ (12)

Andolsun Allah İsrailoğullarından sağlam söz almıştı. Onlardan on iki temsilci -başkan- seçmiştik.

A 365 project first for me, which I am not entirely sure I should be ashamed or inspired. Today was a blah day, until one of my friends decided that he wanted to meet up and shoot some pictures around town. Now while thats all hunky dory, he wanted to go to the UW-Arboretum: with the rains and excessive humidity we have had recently I gave him plenty of warning that the bugs would be bad. He ignored my warning and we met up, thankfully he brought insect spray for I have none myself. We trekked through the woods stirring up plenty of bugs, mosquitos were the main concern and they definately made their presence known. Within ten minutes of walking, we stopped in the path to snap a few frames of some mushrooms growing in a neat pattern along the trunk of a slowly dying tree. This was quite the mistake; as we walked closer the tree a swarm of at least two dozen mosquitos came from underneath and started to attack us. We ran from the tree, and back to the path waving our tripods in the air to battle these blood sucking bastards. Eventually we gave in and decided that we would find the way back to our cars, and venture somewhere the bugs had not infested the surroundings with the intent of eating us alive.

We agreed to meet off Bedford for it was free parking, for at least two hours anyway: Also far enough from the majority of the craziness of move-in weekend on campus. I took what I thought would be the easiest way down, which turned out to be a series of unfortunately events. Turns out a train bad back up along the North Shore corridor and at that North Shore was my route to Bedford. Driving aimlessly, I found myself squirming with an upset stomach and decided to just find my way home. Once home I proceeded to take a nap, for three hours: being excessive lazy or maybe just not able to catch up on sleep from the previous nights accounts of being up til 3a.m. I am not entirely sure which one it was.

The light was still overcast, a dark ominus gray covered the sky and I figured there wasnt much going to happen for a sunset but I drove West anyway. Struggling to find a nice vantage point over the main highway to the West, I pulled my car off the road and walked to an overpass and started shooting. Trying all sorts of lenses to see what I could pull into the frame or select FROM the frame that was the most enjoyable for my eyes. As it turns out the skys dull red started to fade, into a multi-tude of blues, grays, and reds. My 18mm was the onlens thatt I could find that was able to capture a good portion of the image, which leads me to the confession.

Tonights image is a first for me, a panoramic: now maybe you read the stories or maybe just look at the tags, or simply just the picture. But this for me is as ground breaking as was when I broke down last summer and cropped an image. Something I swear by that Id never do in my project, as it breaks the rules via POD "picure of the day," should really only be ONE frame. But alas my friend Brian helped me break down and realize that if I wanted a winner shot to remember today by, it was definately the pano. These two shots are seemed together with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, seemlessly a SOOC: but there was a slight contrast adjust with the right side. We debated back and forth for a good 30 minutes if it was the clouds or a slight change in exposure, until I managed to get the right adjust on the contrast. The only way that I could have done this shot without having to do a pano was if I had a full frame sensor and had used my 18mm for one shot vs two, but heck sometimes the cheaper alternative wins.

Anatidae is the biological family that includes the ducks and most duck-like waterfowl, such as geese and swans. These are birds that are evolutionarily adapted for swimming, floating on the water surface, and in some cases diving in at least shallow water. (The Magpie-goose is no longer considered to be part of the Anatidae, but is placed in its own family Anseranatidae.)

Extant species range in size from the Cotton Pygmy Goose, at as little as 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) and 164 grams (5.8 oz), to the Trumpeter Swan, at as much as 183 cm (6 ft) and 17.2 kg (38 lb). They have webbed feet and bills which are flattened to a greater or lesser extent. Their feathers are excellent at shedding water due to special oils. Anatidae are remarkable for being one of the few families of birds that possess a penis; they are adapted for copulation on the water only. Duck, eider, and goose feathers and down have long been popular for bedspreads, pillows, sleeping bags and coats. The members of this family also have long been used for food.

The reclaimed wetlands of the river Foix estuary have made this area into one of the main attractions of the town. The River Foix, which is dry during most of the year due to construction of the Foix Resservoir is another of the most emblematic places in Cubelles. At the Foix estuary, you can spend the day enjoying nature and birthwatching, or at one of the picnic areas. This zone is also intended for school visits, as it is a place where children can study the ecosystem of a Mediterranean river such as the Foix.

The estuary is separated from the sea by a sand barrier which has accumulated over time, due to sea currents and rainwater sediments, forming freshwater laguens behind the barrier. The natural area of the Foix Delta has a branch of land that sticks out into the sea. This was formed during the floods of 1994 and joins onto another branch, leaving an island in the middle. Tourists can visit the island by crossing a wooden footbridge.

CASTELLANO

A structure with flexible and transparent rooms: In December 2001, following in-depth debates, the board of the BMW AG has voted in favour of the architectural concept by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU. The outstanding concept of the BMW Welt is characterised very much by the unique roof structure and the so-called Double Cone.

The 16,000 m² of cloud roof which emanates from the forming Double Cone is only carried by twelve hinged columns and creates the impression that it is floating. In its basic system, it consists of an upper and a lower girder grillage with a basic grid of five by five metres. Between the layers, diagonal struts are inserted which link the two layers of girder grillage, hereby creating a spatial supporting structure.

The Double Cone which protrudes prominently from the entire building acts as a powerful and dynamic eye-catcher. The cyclone made of glass and steel, winding upwards, ending in the roof which is suspended freely, floating just like a cloud, is created by a dynamic deformation of the two girder layers and constitutes one of the main supporting points of the roof.

The architectural concept of the BMW Welt combines form and function. This is shown in the elegant steel facade, for example, which serves the function of air-conditioning the BMW Welt, among other things. For this purpose, the solar energy which is lead from the roof to the facades contributes to the heating of the building and the ventilation of the building is also implemented with the large wall areas. Enveloping surfaces made of glass create a thermically comfortable surface temperature. Vegetation outside, specifically near the natural ventilation elements bind dust particles and also have a cooling effect.

New Yorkers Protest the US$850 BILLION Wall Street BAILOUT: Wall Street, NYC - September 25, 2008

Phototgrapher: a. golden, eyewash design - c. 2008.

This is actually a GOOD guy. See: billionairesforbush.com/index.php for more information.

Friends,

The richest 400 Americans -- that's right, just four-hundred people -- own MORE than the bottom 150 million Americans COMBINED! 400 of the wealthiest Americans have got more stashed away than half the entire country! Their combined net worth is $1.6 trillion. During the eight years of the Bush Administration, their wealth has increased by nearly $700 billion -- the same amount that they were demanding We give to them for the "bailout." Why don't they just spend the money they made under Bush to bail themselves out? They'd still have nearly a trillion dollars left over to spread amongst themselves!

Of course, they are not going to do that -- at least not voluntarily. George W. Bush was handed a $127 billion surplus when Bill Clinton left office. Because that money was OUR money and not HIS, he did what the rich prefer to do -- spend it and never look back. Now we have a $9.5 trillion debt that will take seven generations from which to recover. Why -- on --earth – did -- our -- "representatives" -- give -- these -- robber -- barons -- $US850 BILLION -- of – OUR -- money?

Last week, proposed my own bailout plan. My suggestions, listed below, were predicated on the singular and simple belief that the rich must pull themselves up by their own platinum bootstraps. Sorry, fellows, but you drilled it into our heads one too many times: THERE...IS...NO…FREE... LUNCH ~ PERIOD! And thank you for encouraging us to hate people on welfare! So, there should have been NO HANDOUTS FROM US TO YOU! Last Friday, after voting AGAINST this BAILOUT, in an unprecedented turn of events, the House FLIP-FLOPPED their "No" Vote & said "Yes", in a rush version of a "bailout" bill vote. IN SPITE OF THE PEOPLE'S OVERWHELMING DISAPPROVAL OF THIS BAILOUT BILL... IN SPITE OF MILLIONS OF CALLS FROM THE PEOPLE CRASHING WASHINGTON "representatives'" PHONE LINES...IN SPITE OF CRASHING OUR POLITICIAN'S WEBSITES...IN SPITE OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE PROTESTING AROUND THE COUNTRY... THEY VOTED FOR THIS BAILOUT! The People first succeeded on Monday with the House, but failed do it with the Senate and then THE HOUSE TURNED ON US TOO!

It is clear, though, we cannot simply continue protesting without proposing exactly what it is we think THESE IDIOTS should/'ve do/one. So, after consulting with a number of people smarter than Phil Gramm, here’s the proposal, now known as "Mike's Rescue Plan." (From Michael Moore's Bailout Plan) It has 10 simple, straightforward points. They are that you DIDN'T, BUT SHOULD'VE:

1. APPOINTED A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR TO CRIMINALLY INDICT ANYONE ON WALL STREET WHO KNOWINGLY CONTRIBUTED TO THIS COLLAPSE. Before any new money was expended, Congress should have committed, by resolution, to CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE ANYONE who had ANYTHING to do with the attempted SACKING OF OUR ECONOMY. This means that anyone who committed insider trading, securities fraud or any action that helped bring about this collapse should have and MUST GO TO JAIL! This Congress SHOULD HAVE called for a Special Prosecutor who would vigorously go after everyone who created the mess, and anyone else who attempts to scam the public in future. (I like Elliot Spitzer ~ so, he played a little hanky-panky...Wall Street hates him & this is a GOOD thing.)

2. THE RICH SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR THEIR OWN BAILOUT! They may have to live in 5 houses instead of 7. They may have to drive 9 cars instead of 13. The chef for their mini-terriers may have to be reassigned. But there is no way in hell, after forcing family incomes to go down more than $2,000 dollars during the Bush years, that working people and the middle class should have to fork over one dime to underwrite the next yacht purchase.

If they truly needed the $850 billion they say they needed, well, here is an easy way they could have raised it:

a) Every couple makeing over a million dollars a year and every single taxpayer who makes over $500,000 a year should pay a 10% surcharge tax for five years. (It's the Senator Sanders plan. He's like Colonel Sanders, only he's out to fry the right chickens.) That means the rich would have still been paying less income tax than when Carter was president. That would have raise a total of $300 billion.

b) Like nearly every other democracy, they should have charged a 0.25% tax on every stock transaction. This would have raised more than $200 billion in a year.

c) Because every stockholder is a patriotic American, stockholders should have forgone receiving a dividend check for ONE quarter and instead this money would have gone the treasury to help pay for the bullsh*t bailout.

d) 25% of major U.S. corporations currently pay NO federal income tax. Federal corporate tax revenues currently amount to 1.7% of the GDP compared to 5% in the 1950s. If we raised the corporate income tax BACK to the levels of the 1950s, this would give us an extra $500 billion.

All of this combined should have been enough to end the calamity. The rich would have gotten to keep their mansions and their servants and our United States government ("COUNTRY FIRST!") would've have a little leftover to repair some roads, bridges and schools...

3. YOU SHOULD HAVE BAIL OUT THE PEOPLE LOSING THEIR HOMES, NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BUILD AN EIGHTH HOME! There are 1.3 million homes in foreclosure right now. That is what is at the heart of this problem. So, instead of giving the money to the banks as a gift, they should have paid down each of these mortgages by $100,000. They should have forced the banks to renegotiate the mortgage so the homeowner could pay on its current value. To insure that this help wouldn't go to speculators and those who tried to making money by flipping houses, the bailout should have only been for people's primary residences. And, in return for the $100K pay-down on the existing mortgage, the government would have gotten to share in the holding of the mortgage so it could get some of its money back. Thus, the total initial cost of fixing the mortgage crisis at its roots (instead of with the greedy lenders) is $150 billion, not $850 BILLION.

And let's set the record straight. People who have defaulted on their mortgages are not "bad risks." They are our fellow Americans, and all they wanted was what we all want: a home to call their own. But, during the Bush years, millions of the People lost the decent paying jobs they had. SIX MILLION fell into poverty! SEVEN MILLION lost their health insurance! And, every one of them saw their real wages go DOWN by $2,000! Those who DARE look down on these Americans who got hit with one bad break after another should be ASHAMED.! We are a better, stronger, safer and happier society when all of our citizens can afford to live in a home they own.

4. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A STIPULATION THAT IF YOUR BANK OR COMPANY GOT ANY OF OUR MONEY IN A "BAILOUT," THEN WE OWN YOU. Sorry, that's how it's done. If the bank gives me money so I can buy a house, the bank "owns" that house until I pay it all back -- with interest. Same deal for Wall Street. Whatever money you need to stay afloat, if our government considers you a safe risk -- and necessary for the good of the country -- then you can get a loan, but WE SHOULD OWN YOU. If you default, we will sell you. This is how the Swedish government did it and it worked.

5. ALL REGULATIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN BE RESTORED. THE REAGAN REVOLUTION IS DEAD! This catastrophe happened because we let the fox have the keys to the hen-house. In 1999, Phil Gramm authored a bill to remove all the regulations that governed Wall Street and our banking system. The bill passed and Clinton signed it. Here's what Sen.Phil Gramm, McCain's chief economic advisor, said at the bill signing:

"In the 1930s ... it was believed that government was the answer. It was believed that stability and growth came from government overriding the functioning of free markets.

"We are here today to repeal [that] because we have learned that government is not the answer. We have learned that freedom and competition are the answers. We have learned that we promote economic growth and we promote stability by having competition and freedom.

"I am proud to be here because this is an important bill; it is a deregulatory bill. I believe that that is the wave of the future, and I am awfully proud to have been a part of making it a reality."

FOR THIS NOT TO REOCCUR, This BILL SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPEALED! Bill Clinton could have helped by leading the effort for the repeal of the Gramm bill and the reinstating of even tougher regulations regarding our financial institutions. And when they were done with that, they should have restored the regulations for the airlines, the inspection of our food, the oil industry, OSHA, and every other entity that affects our daily lives. All oversight provisions for any "bailout" should have had enforcement monies attached to them and criminal penalties for all offenders.

6. IF IT'S TOO BIG TO FAIL, THEN THAT MEANS IT'S TOO BIG TO EXIST! Allowing the creation of these mega-mergers and not enforcing the monopoly and anti-trust laws has allowed a number of financial institutions and corporations to become so large, the very thought of their collapse means an even bigger collapse across the entire economy. No ONE or TWO companies should EVER have this kind of power! The so-called "economic Pearl Harbor" can't happen when you have hundreds -- thousands -- of institutions where people have their money. When we have a dozen auto companies, if one goes belly-up, we DON'T FACE A NATIONAL DISASTER! If we have three separately-owned daily newspapers in your town, then one media company can't call all the shots (I know... What am I thinking?! Who reads a paper anymore? Sure glad all those mergers and buyouts left us with a STRONG and "FREE" press!). Laws Should have been enacted to prevent companies from being so large and dominant that with one slingshot to the eye, the GIANT FALLS and DIES. And no institution should be allowed to set up money schemes that NO ONE understands. If you can't explain it in two sentences, you shouldn't be taking anyone's money!

7. NO EXECUTIVE SHOULD EVER BE PAID MORE THAN 40 TIMES THEIR AVERAGE EMPLOYEE, AND NO EXECUTIVE SHOULD RECEIVE ANY KIND OF "PARACHUTE" OTHER THAN THE VERY GENEROUS SALARY HE OR SHE MADE WHILE WORKING FOR THE COMPANY. In 1980, the average American CEO made 45 times what their employees made. By 2003, they were making 254 times what their workers made. After 8 years of Bush, they now make over 400 times what their average employee makes. How We have allowed this to happen at publicly held companies is beyond reason. In Britain, the average CEO makes 28 times what their average employee makes. In Japan, it's only 17 times! The last I heard, the CEO of Toyota was living the high life in Tokyo. How does he do it on so little money? Seriously, this is an OUTRAGE! We have created the mess we're in by letting the people at the top become bloated beyond belief with millions of dollars. THIS HAS TO STOP! Not only should no executive who receives help out of this mess profit from it, but any executive who was in charge of running his company into the ground should be FIRED before the company receives ANY help.

8. CONGRESS SHOULD HAVE STRENGTHENED THE FDIC AND MADE IT A MODEL FOR PROTECTING NOT ONLY PEOPLE'S SAVINGS, BUT ALSO THEIR PENSIONS AND THEIR HOMES. Obama was correct to propose expanding FDIC protection of people's savings in their banks to $250,000. But, this same sort of government insurance must be given to our NEVER have to worry about whether or not the money they've put away for their old age will be there. This should have meant strict government oversight of companies who manage their employees' funds -- or perhaps it means the companies should have been forced to turn over those funds and their management to the government? People's private retirement funds must also be protected, but perhaps it's time to consider not having one's retirement invested in the casino known as the stock market??? Our government should have a solemn duty to guarantee that no one who grows old in this country has to worry about becoming destitute.

9. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH, CALM DOWN, AND NOT LET FEAR RULE THE DAY. Turn off your TVs! We are NOT in the Second Great Depression. The sky is NOT falling, Chicken Little! Pundits and politicians have lied to us so FAST and FURIOUS it's hard not to be affected by all the fear mongering. Even I wrote to and repeated what I heard on the news last week, that the Dow had the biggest one day drop in its history. Well, that was true in terms of points, but its 7% drop came nowhere close to Black Monday in 1987 when the stock market in one day lost 23% of its value. In the '80s, 3,000 banks closed, but America didn't go out of business. These institutions have always had their ups and downs and eventually it works out. It has to, because the rich do not like their wealth being disrupted! They have a vested interest in calming things down and getting back into their Jacuzzis before they slip into their million thread-count sheets to drift off to a peaceful, Vodka tonic and Ambien-induced slumber.

As crazy as things are right now, tens of thousands of people got a car loan last week. Thousands went to the bank and got a mortgage to buy a home. Students just back to college found banks more than happy to put them into hock for the next 15 years with a student loan. I was even pre-approved for a US$5K personal loan. Yes, life has gone on with little-or-no-change (other than the whopping 6.1% umeployment rate, but that happened last month). Not a single person lost any of his/her monies in bank, or a treasury note, or in a CD. And, the perhaps the most amazing thing is that the American public FINALLY didn't buy the scare campaign. The citizens didn't blink, instead telling Congress to take that bailout and shove it. THAT was impressive. Why didn't the population succumb to the fright-filled warnings from their president and his cronies? Well, you can only say 'Saddam has the bomb' so many times before the people realize you're a lying sack of shit. After eight long years, the nation is worn out and simply can't take it any longer. The WORLD is fed up & I don't blame them.

10. THEY SHOULD HAVE CREATED A NATIONAL BANK, A "PEOPLE'S BANK." Since they're really itching to print up a trillion dollars, instead of giving it to a few rich people, why don't We give it to ourselves? Now that We own Freddie and Fannie, why not set up a People's bank? One that can provide low-interest loans for all sorts of people who want to own a home, start a small business, go to school, come up with the cure for cancer or create the next great invention. And, now that we own AIG - the country's largest insurance company - let's take the next step and PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR EVERYONE. MEDICARE FOR ALL! It will SAVE us SO MUCH MONEY in the LONG RUN (not to mention bring peace of mind to all). And, America won't be 12th on the life expectancy list! We'll be able to have a longer lifespan, enjoying our government-protected pension and will live to see the day when the corporate criminals who caused this much misery are let out of prison so that We can help re-acclimate them to plain old ordinary, civilian life -- a life with ONE nice home and ONE gas-free car invented with help from the People's Bank.

P.S. Call your Senators NOW !!! ---> www.visi.com/juan/congress/

Since they voted against passing the extension of unemployment benefits and skipped out to "campaign" to us to be re-elected...call them and tell them you will vote for the other "guy" if they don't get their act together!

Today, I chilled on the couch all day. Why you may ask? I totally had a headache ALL DAY long. Still have one while I'm typing this. My headaches link to change in weather, so although I've been enjoying the rain, the changing weather is really messing up my head. :(

This weekend is going to be crazy because I have to cram a bunch of school assignments because I'm a procrastinator. :/

I sat around and watched all sort of videos such as:

I decided to finally explore textures. Holymygosh. They are SO much more fun than texture brushes! And you can manipulate them alot more. This feels very Jessi-esque to me.

Layer #1 is from James' Textures for Layers set, I used this one. Layer #2 is here.

I woke up at 5 this evening. Passed out last night at 930. My sleep schedule is driving me crazy.

My necklace from the jewelry party came in! This isn't the super awesome one I was talking about, but mom won't let me have it until my birthday. Which I think is pretty lame because I already know what it is and my birthday isn't until November. :( I asked if I could just use it for my 365 and she said yes. In November. Poop. :(

My whole body aches. My thighs are killing me from jumping in and out of this pose a million times yesterday. My neck is tense, I've got a massive headache and my sinuses have that itchy/allergy/pressured 'you might be getting sick, muahahaha' feeling. :(

ENGLISH

Ramon Cabrera (Tortosa 27 December 1806 - Wentworth 1877) was a Carlist general of Spain.

He was born at Tortosa, province of Tarragona, Spain. As his family had in their gift two chaplaincies, young Cabrera was sent to the seminary of Tortosa, where he made himself conspicuous as an unruly pupil, ever mixed up in disturbances and careless in his studies. After he had taken minor orders, the bishop refused to ordain him as a priest, telling him that the Church was not his vocation, and that everything in him showed that he ought to be a soldier. Cabrera followed this advice and took part in Carlist conspiracies on the death of Ferdinand VII. The authorities exiled him and he absconded to Morella to join the forces of the pretender Don Carlos.

In March 1875 Cabrera sprang upon Don Carlos a manifesto in which he called upon the adherents of the pretender to follow his own example and submit to the restored monarchy of Alphonso XII, the son of Queen Isabella, who recognized the rank of captain-general and the title of count of Morella conferred on Cabrera by the first pretender. Only a very few insignificant Carlists followed Cabrera's example, and Don Carlos issued a proclamation declaring him a traitor and depriving him of all his honours and titles.

Cabrera, who was ever afterwards regarded with contempt and execration by the Carlists, died in London on the 24th May 1877. He did not receive much attention from the majority of his fellow-countrymen, who commonly said that his disloyalty to his old cause had proved more harmful to him than beneficial to the new state of things. A pension which had been granted to his widow was renounced by her in 1899 in aid of the Spanish treasury after the loss of the colonies.

CASTELLANO

one of my creations in my high school fashion design class

I was tagged twice, once by BaubCat

and then by Retired Records

1. I was tiny when I was born, so grandma nicknamed me Bitsy, I may still have a pillowcase from her with that name embroidered on it.

2. When I was little I hated cheese, the first cheese I would eat was swiss because it was mostly holes. Now I love almost any cheese.

3. When I was a toddler, I flipped over in one of those baby floats in a pool & sank to the bottom. I remember my brother staring at me & swimming up & shouting that I was under water. Still a bit uncomfortable in water to this day.

4. I love museums; art, history, science, etc. One of my favorite places to visit as a child was the Cincinnati Art Museum. They had programs for small kids & I remember running around the galleries and especially liked the musical instruments section & the ancient Chinese Art. And Gardens too, there was a beautiful Plant Conservatory I loved in the same park (Eden Park).

5. My mother used to keep my hair short because I cried too much when she tried to comb out the tangles. I was all excited when it was growing out just before my 1st communion. Then, the weekend before she took me to have it cut into a pixie. I was so upset. My hair is the longest it’s ever been now, but I also like it very short, I think about cutting it often, but so many friends tell me how nice it looks that I haven’t done it yet. I guess there’s plenty of time for short hair when I’m a real old lady.

6. My dad was a teacher, I used to steal admit slips & hall passes & give them away to friends. My junior year, our school had a setup at lunch where a third of the school took lunch for a ½ hour & then class for an hour. Another third had class for 1 hour & lunch the last ½ hour. I was with the third that went to class for ½ hour, then lunch, then back to class. My friend who had lunch the last ½ hour wanted me to eat with her one day. We forged one of the hall passes to guidance & she came into my class to get me. My trig teacher looked at it & said “if this isn’t a forgery then I’ve never seen one” & then handed it out toward me. Everyone was staring at me, I was too embarrassed to stay, so I went & got it & left. I guess because I had straight A’s, he just let me go.

7. When I was 14, I used to lie about my age to get into movies for the kids price. Then when I was 16, I was hanging out in bars with a fake I.D. even though I looked young for my age. I.D.’s didn’t have pictures in those days, I hung out with much older people.

8. I used to have recurring nightmares in my 20’s. One usually involved being at a party or some event and one by one, all of my teeth falling out. The next one was where I would be driving and I would come to a bridge and as I started up the bridge, it would get steeper and steeper and taller and taller until I knew that when I went over the top it would be too steep for the car to stay on the road. I always woke up just as I went over the top (pretty strange considering I love roller coasters, but many of the bridges were over water). The last one also involved the car and the brakes not working. Usually it was in a parking lot and I was pulling in or out of a space and I’d have no brakes and I’d crash into something.

9. I’m addicted to sudoku and I always watch Jeopardy.

10. I’ve been green ever since the first Earth Day. I avoid pesticides. I compost & recycle. I love trees and mountains and nature. I don’t know how people can live in huge houses with no property around them. I need open outdoor space.

11. I married my teacher ;-) He’s a great match for me. We have so much in common and sometimes think the exact same thought at the same time. But we always end up fighting whenever we try to work on home improvement projects together. Probably because I’m too much of a perfectionist & I’m way too rigid in how I want things done.

12. I can’t believe I don’t weigh 300 lbs from eating all my husbands delicious cooking. Thank god he loves doing it ‘cause I hate cooking, except maybe baking cakes and pumpkin pie.

13. I don’t like picking favorites because mine change too often (variety is the spice of life). But if I really like something, I like it forever.

14. I’ve always hated my nose, but I don’t believe in surgically altering one’s body. I don’t know why women have boob jobs. The thought of taking a knife to mine is so very creepy. Men wouldn’t go under the knife to please us and it doesn’t make you any better in the sack either. There are plenty of men who like small breast.

15. I love to travel, my favorite vacation so far was our 8 day rafting trip though the Grand Canyon. It was such an adventure. Second would have to be riding all the roller coasters at Cedar Point.

16. I love sarcasm, dark comedies and really sick, filthy jokes and limericks.

Dormagen:

I was fortunate to grow up in a family of great readers!

We had a wealth of books in different languages to choose from!

The novel Peony, by Pearl S. Buck, I read at a fairly young age, in English, because, I was raised in 3 languages.

I remember enjoying it, but now realise I did not fully understand...

faculty.randolphcollege.edu/fwebb/buck/jlgornto/Peony.html

The Concepts of Yin-Yang

Presented Throughout

Peony

A revisiting is imminent!

Pearl was a wise lady and proved it in everything that she wrote, no wonder she was awarded the Nobel Prize!

Here are some of her quotes that I favour:

"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this:

A human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive.

To him... a touch is a blow,

a sound is a noise,

a misfortune is a tragedy,

a joy is an ecstasy,

a friend is a lover,

a lover is a god,

and failure is death."

Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating."

— Pearl S. Buck

"Many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness."

— Pearl S. Buck

"The secret of joy in work is contained in one word-excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it."

— Pearl S. Buck
