The shot was taken in the early morning hours before sunrise at Punggol. When light was low and long exposure yielded this smooth effect of the water. No filter was applied and the blue tone truely compliments the blue hour at dawn.

Almost same shot from same location after sunrise

This is freshly baked shot, one long exposure of 10 secs to flatten the water and another exposure of 5 secs for the sky. Exif is not 100% correct here. As per editing is concerned nothing done except playing with its curves and bit sharpness.

Fastnet Rock (Irish: An Charraig Aonair, meaning Rock of Solitude or Lonesome Rock) is a small clay-slate island with quartz veins and the most southerly point of Ireland, 6.5 km southwest of Cape Clear Island (Oileán Chléire) in County Cork, which is itself 13 km (8 miles) from the mainland. It lies in the Atlantic Ocean 11.3 km south of mainland County Cork, at latitude 51.37°N. It rises to about 30 m above low water mark. Study of the documentary record suggests that the name is from Old Norse Hvastann-ey 'sharp tooth island'.

Divided into Fastnet Rock proper and the much smaller Little Fastnet to the south by a 10 m (30 ft) wide channel, it also had the nickname 'Ireland's Teardrop' as it was the last part of the country seen by Irish emigrants to the United States in the 19th century as they sailed past it.

Our workshop group hiked the 1.5 miles upward to the Delicate Arch for a sunset shoot. The hike at 5600 ft was not easy but I was rewarded with this incredible scene.

The Lasal Mountains are on the horizon.

For composition, I did not place the arch in the center of the frame but slightly off-center. I moved back and forth until I got the mountain peaks just where I wanted them through the arch. I also included some of the formation on the left. The sandstone plateua slopes gently downward to the right, giving some nice diagonal lines to the composition.

The far side of this arch is a shear drop into the canyon beyond, which is why you never see any images of the arch from that side.

It is difficult to get the scale of this arch. I will post an image next with a person in it for scale. When you get up close to this arch, it is anything but delicate. It is massive and the western leg is very thick. I guess it was named Delicate Arch because it looks that way from a distance.

English:

Photo taken at the end of the river Lobos Cannyon at the point where the Ucero river springs up to life.

It was a cold Sunday morning ... and there was nothing better than hiking in the snow to the San Batolome de Ucero hermitage. The road was completely covered in snow. I wasn't the only brave one to venture in the snow though - there were a lot of other hikers around. First, I had to leave the car at the beginning of the cannyon and then climb up, since the road was clomplety covered in snow and even ice in some parts.

Ucero River: The source of the river is in "La Galiana", also known as "Manantial (spring) de la Galiana", "Fuente (foutain) de la Galiana" and "Nacedero (source) del río Ucero", and is located at the end of the Lobos river cannyon.

The Lobos river, which begins in the province of Burgos, sweeps non-permeable materials from the undercurrents and runoffs as well as some karstic debri.

When it runs trhough Sierra de Cabrejas, the river collects chalk sediments from the Cretaceous period and runs through a narrow but magnificent cannyon until it reaches the source of the Ucero river.

The speed of the water is estimated to be low, aprox. 10km per week (60m/h). The average flow at the source of the river is 650l/sec/, the temperature of the water, 10º C and contains 8,3 cm3 dissolved oxygen per litre of water.

English:

Peracense

Situation: Peracense's strength(fortress) is hung on an isolated crag of the saw Menera, in Peracense's municipality, to approximately 45 kilometres of Teruel.

History: The origin of this castle is not not clear at all. As it seems, for the archaeological remains found in his(her, your) proximities, it was necessary to to have been the defense of a small medieval settlement, known by the villagers as the Villeta, place from which the medieval image of the Virgin would come with the Child who remains in the parochial church of the locality. According to information handled by Christopher Guitart already it existed in 1284, since it was used by the royal troops as point of item for Albarracín's conquest. Nevertheless, also they have found Celtiberian and Roman remains, which gives idea of the ancient of your origin. The strength in strict sense, and that we can see today, was built towards the first half of the 14th century for strictly military use.

In spite of your situation, since he is much more near to Teruel than to Daroca, and I joust in the limit that during the Middle Ages was separating the territories of both communities, Peracense's castle was administered by wardens named by the community darocense. The castle is located close to the mount or San Ginés's rock, the whole geographical milestone already indicated on having mentioned the spatial limits of Teruel, community that is formed by part of the territory already conquered from the Muslims by Daroca's troops, in order that it(he) remains clear up to where there spread one and other one.

The construction of Peracense's castle, since that of other neighboring castles was a fruit of the medieval rivalry among the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon. Your mission was it of controlling one of the possible points of access for which the Castilian troops could penetrate in Aragon in moments of conflict, and avoid this way his(her, your) arrival to the whole Valley of the Jiloca and to localities as important as Holy Eulalia, Villafranca, Monreal of the Field or the own city of Teruel. Nevertheless, it seems that the access of the Castilian troops could be done from other nearby points and of more difficult defense, so that this castle scarcely was attacked not besieged. One of the reasons of the relative mistake of use of this castle is that always was protected adequately by other defensive elements of the environment, on the one hand the tower of rectangular floor that gets up in San Ginés's already mentioned hill, the principal point of visual control for your location in an elevation of the area inside an eminently flat environment, and for other one the castle of Ródenas, a great stranger of the castellología who nevertheless used him as protective screen. The clearest test of it is that of that of Ródenas scarcely they stay the remains of some wall in the top part, whereas in that of Peracense the remains have had always major importance, even before the recent restoration. As Ródenas's castle yes that concerned to the Community of Teruel, Another possibility appears, that both castles were kept to protect the possessions of your respective communities before possible conflicts among them, more than to dedicate to defending Aragon of the threat of incursions on the part of the Castilians.

Since already it has been said, there do not exist important appointments that testify sieges of this castle on the part of enemy troops during the Middle Ages. It is necessary to wait to the warlike episodes of the first war Carlist to document again your partial utilization.

Description: Peracense's castle changes color with the landscape so that it seems to form a part of it as if about a geological phenomenon it was treating itself. The form that it acquires is that of a spur of a ship beached in the mountain of which the principal tower stands out for your height and rotundity.

The strength is of floor curadrada irregular, occupies approximately 4.000 square meters, divides in three concentric enclosures and is placed on a steep rock, being impregnable for several of your flanks. The interior enclosure is the square of weapon, of approximately 60 x 40 meters, and in it it is possible to observe a species of niches that they have should to be used to store provisions and in order that the warriors should protect themselves of the cold.

Your hillsides north and this sound impregnable, and in the south and west a wall got up in the shape of right angle of approximately 3 meters of thickness, reinforced by three rectangular towers.

The entry to the castle is a narrow gap at the edge of the precipice. It is saeteras and enough battlements survive. Only the frontal wall stays of what was the Torre del Homenaje.

___

Often, when dealing with environmental issues, the focus is solely on the animal species or ecosystems at risk of extinction, but we left on the sidelines or pay less attention to trees that are the foundation of ecosystems and play a key role in nature.

Some of the most typical trees of the Earth are also some who are at greater risk of extinction. It is worth sounding the alarm and support conservation efforts.

This is the intersection of the spillway with the Mississippi River. The spillway was opened this year due to the very high river levels to keep from flooding the New Orleans area,. Up river the Morgnza Spillway was also opened to relieve flooding of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. If they had not opened both spillways these cities and other nearby areas would have had massive flooding!!!! The Bonnet Carre' Spillway is now closed and mostly drained but the lower road has been damaged and repairs will soon be made. The Morganza Spillway was closed a few weeks ago.

It seems fairy lights give you a very unusual facial structure, all the photos looked so funny. I had to run outside at 11.30 when I got home after realizing the photos I'd initially taken hadn't worked out, sorry it's a rush job :( I seemed to spend the entire day sleeping, or streaming tv, it's been one of those miserable days when you don't feel like dealing with anything and sit round eating vast amounts of chocolate instead :P I've now run out of House, NCIS, Castle & How I Met Your Mother - it's traumatic! I have nothing left to watch, any suggestions of good stuff are very welcome.

Inspired by anyone with a love of fairy lights :)

Anyhow I'm desperate for sleep as I'm up at 6 again for work, 4.5 hours sleep - hoorah. Night flickrites!
