The title of this work was chosen because we had such a great time in the Ardennes during our one week vacation with our two kids. This shot - along with a whole series of landscape shots - was taken during a very hot afternoon when I had a change to get a few hours of my own in this valley, walking and bathing in the middle of this small and cold streaming river called the Ourthe. In the meantime trying some tricks with my filters, long exposures and other lenses.

This 20 seconds shot was taken with my ultra-wide Tokina 12-24mm at 12mm with the B+W 110 ND attached.

Mon Oncle ("My Uncle") is a 1958 comedic film by French filmmaker Jacques Tati. It was Tati's first film to be released in colour (after the colour-debacle of Jour de fête) and that same year won him the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, a Special Prize at Cannes, and the prestigious New York Film Critics Award, receiving more honors than any of Tati's other films.

The film centers on the dimwitted yet lovable character of Monsieur Hulot and his quixotic struggle with postwar France's infatuation with modern architecture, mechanical efficiency and American-style consumerism. As with most Tati films, Mon Oncle is largely a visual comedy; color and lighting are employed to help tell the story. The dialogue in Mon Oncle is barely audible, and largely subordinated to the role of a sound effect. Consequently, most of the conversations are not subtitled. Instead, the drifting noises of heated arguments and idle banter complement other sounds and the physical movements of the characters, intensifying comedic effect. The complex soundtrack also uses music to characterize environments, including a lively musical theme that represents Hulot's world of comical inefficiency and freedom.

The wispy seed heads of the Pasque Flower are attractive in their own right.

[...], another common name for Pasque flower (or "Pasqueflower") is "Easter flower." Pasque is the Old French spelling for "Easter," and it is around that time of year that the plant blooms, in some regions. According to Botanical.com, the famous herbalist, John Gerard, "informs us that he himself was 'moved to name' this the Pasque Flower, or Easter Flower, because of the time of its appearance, it being in bloom from April to June."

Lower Broadway, Aug 2008 - 04

This was taken from the north side of Broadway at Howard Street, looking south; I thought the young woman made an interesting silhouette as she sat by herself.

I had to look, back and forth, several times at this picture and the previous one, to convince myself that it really is the same young woman. The couple previously sitting to her left has disappeared, and the lower background immediately behind her doesn't really look quite the same. But the other details -- shirt, haircut, purse, etc. -- are the same. And besides, I was there.

In any case, I think this is the more interesting of the two pictures.

Notwithstanding my own opinions on the topic, this photo was published in an April 8, 2009 blog titled "Woody Allen vs. American Apparel.." It was also published in a March 3, 2011 blog titled "Check out the upcoming Gender, Sexuality, and Urban Spaces Conference Mar. 11-13!"

Moving into 2012, the photo was published in an Oct 24, 2012 blog titled "American Apparel opens biggest international store in Beijing." It was also published in an undated (late Oct 2012) blog titled "17 Interesting Pictures of Billboards."

Moving into 2014, the photo was published in a May 18, 2014 blog titled "Women in Three Dimensions."

Moving into 2015, the photo was published in a Feb 23, 2015 blog titled "THE PROBLEM WITH SEXUAL INEQUALITY AT EVERY LEVEL."

**********************************

On a bright, sunny Wednesday afternoon, I ventured down to 23rd Street and 6th Avenue to drop off my laptop computer for a repair job. Afterwards, I thought I would walk over to Broadway and stroll up the street to see if I could find some interesting pictures; and then I got the crazy idea to take a cab down to the very end of Broadway -- near the Staten Island Ferry -- and walk all the way up Broadway to my neighborhood on 96th Street.

But then I decided that Broadway probably wouldn't be very interesting until I reached Canal Street ... so I had the cab-driver drop me off there, and began my walk northward. Who knows how far I would have gotten if I hadn't been distracted by a lively farmer's market in Union Square -- on 14th Street? Anyway, there's much more of Broadway to cover, and if I have the time and energy over the next few months, perhaps I will cover the entire length of this longest street in New York City, which extends all the way through Manhattan, Bronx, and into Yonkers...

It's sometimes surprising what's hiding behind a dreary winter sky. This was taken at the Black Butte Dam overlook. Visibility was limited due to the weather but I was intriqued by the position of the rock facings and the trees and decided it was worth a shot. Backlighting and layering helped bring out the colors in the sky and then I used a texture called pink spotlight from pareeerica www.flickr.com/photos/8078381@N03/ .

This is a good example to show how cold it was in the mornings...

We got up early to rent snowshoes for some back country hiking. There were only 10 pairs available in total, so we had to get there early enough to grab some...

On the way to the trailhead, we saw a tree out in a snowfield glowing bright white. We slowed down and eventually parked the car. It was a tree covered in ice crystals. It looked absolutely beautiful. I had to get close to take pictures, but on the first step trying to reach it, my foot sunk deep into the snow.

That's where the snowshoes came inn... I have never tried it before, so I was awkwardly strapping those things on to my feet and started wading into the snow. I still sunk in a little bit, but it was much more comfortable.

The tree was amazing. It was radiating light from the early morning sun. I took a couple of pictures from different angles. This one I liked the best, because you can see the snow field sparkling in the background. I really like how the background is out of focus and it almost looks like snowflakes are falling.

All the crystals were gone when we drove past the tree again later in the day. I think they only lasted for a brief moment before the sun melted them away.

We're living through the last years of interesting topics regarding classic traction in freight traffic on Hungarian rails. Most recently, the Békéscsaba hub of Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) got a BR285, which has already started working on the nearby servicing trains starting the 22nd of July.

Yet – very rarely – you can bump into crazy things, mostly thanks to the general bad shape of vehicle maintenance and planning at MÁV-Start. On a slow May afternoon a friend of a friend, working as a dispatcher was scrolling through the planned trains for Line 50 in the system when he noticed that the freight service from Baja-Dunapart was not showing a Class M62, nor the grey diesel TRAXX in the traction box, but a Class M44 shunter.

Could be a typo... But what if... Well, after phoning around half the loc inspectors and RCH dispatchers of Transdanubia, the info was pieced together, that if one of the Sergeis won't be passed back up by early morning to Dombóvár from Pécs, then yes, the little shunter will have to do instead. Not as it stood in the system; sending the M44 out as far as Baja, to return with an – even if empty –, longer train on the hilly Line 50 would be risky.

So RCH tasked its shiny and boring diesel with that job, and sent the Bobó to take care of the other task of the day; bringing nine empty wagons to Komló next to the three already there, and returning with as many as they could load by afternoon. Armed with this knowledge, we set alarms for around three o'clock and checked to see on the mapper if any of the M62s moved.

By 5:30 we were already through the shittiest gas station coffee I've had in a while, and soon enough we were each waiting eagerly near Mecsekjánosi after choosing our locations for the first pics. The rest is history! More pictures from this day here and here.

A few days ago, I was talking to a fellow photographer friend who i met on here through myspace and we were talking about, well, photography. I asked what inspired him and he replied "My uncle's couple photography." he then sent me the link to his site, and my goodness, I've been staring at his pictures forever. They're so beautiful. He captures couples so well. I can look into their eyes and truly see the love they have for one another. God and love are my biggest inspirations. Because God is love. God brings love. And love brings everything else: happiness, joy, peace, laughter, unity. It takes my breath away.

This one is for ARNEL aka LENAREH, Pinoy Kodakero's poet laureate. Perhaps what I appreciate more about Arnel is his ability to see the lighter side of life. I truly enjoy the simplicity of his view on life as expressed in many of his images. I have enjoyed his “can you guess” posts, his blue sky set, his food and sari-sari shots. His stream is full of treasures which can certainly make you smile. And Arnel is generous. He almost always never leave my stream without a few simple verses of encouragement, sometimes of humor. I feel honored to be his friend and godmother to his young son, Nico. And I am looking forward to meeting him and his family in person and spend some time exploring and shooting some of the beautiful places in the Philippines in October.

I found my tripod today :) L A R G E This was shot while standing in my front doorway - with a telephoto lens. This made Explore :) Thanks for the inspiration Gary (see comment below in Update).

This was actually an experiment...I have a hard time getting a sharp focus on objects far away after dark even when using a remote; however, I have not shot using "mirror up" and need to try that. I'm also aware both my camera and lens need major cleaning. Night shots are tricky...I was hoping to get the stars but...have not figured out how to get the mountain showing which will be in complete darkness by then and the stars. I have recently seen some photos on flickr recently that have me puzzled...showing Mt. Hood during sunset and all peachy orange but also showing stars even though it was shot at 7:38 pm which it is completely dark by then. I have an inquiring mind and really would love to know how that was done.

Update: I sent the photographer an email about that photo and he responded! He was very nice and explained how he did it and the photo is not HDR. His name is Gary Randall. Check out his work - exceptional images. I'm sure you will immediately recognize the photo I am in awe over - plus it was Front Page on Explore.

Chambered Tomb in South Glamorgan. The Welsh name for this site is Gwal-y-Filiast, the Greyhound Bitch's Lair. There was once a mound of earth or stones covering this Neolithic burial chamber, but only slight traces remain.

Now there are three upright stones supporting a 14-foot long by 10-foot wide by 21/2-foot thick capstone, truly a remarkable feat. There are no excavation finds, but one 19th Century researcher recounted seeing bones and pottery mixed up with earth thrown out of the chamber.

Two vertically shifted images shot with the 24mm TS-E lens, stitched.

Each image shot with the new Formatt Hitech Filters Firecrest 16 stops IRND filters, no stacking.

Exposure time: 241 seconds for each image @f/8.0

The next photos in my Visual Acoustics architecture series will all be shot with the new Formatt-Hitech Firecrest 16 stops IRND filters. Why? I already wrote a review on that a few weeks ago on my blog, and I can tell you again that there’s no colour cast at all, not even when shooting in poor light conditions and that the accuracy is very high and that there’s no vignetting with the circular filters, simply because they’re so thin and you don’t need to stack, but I’m not going to say that again. Just look at all the other reviews by independent photographers or read my review here or convince yourself. And if you're interested in how to create images like this, then all this is explained on my website and also in my book that you can find on my website.

Just managed to take this shot in the foyer of an upscale shopping centre (Astoria) in Istanbul before guards told me that the taking of photos in the mall was forbidden. Anyway, I bought myself a stunning "little black dress" (on sale) there and wore it that same night when we went to a dinner and entertainment show at a posh hotel :-)

Have a wonderful Thursday and thanks as always for your visits and kind comments.

See it Large: 'Hide & Go Seek-2 year old style' On Black

Giving this a go in the deleteme group. We shall see.

She is the hider. NOT the seeker. During our walk i told her to go hide so Lola could find her, and this is her interpretation. To be a 2 year old. :)

Another from my first attempt at RAW in CS2, enjoying it. I used a bit of vignetting in this one too, more obvious here.

LARGE!

When I was shooting this, my friend said he could see what I'll make of it.... I hope this doesn't fall short of what he expected me to do...

and BTW, for those of you who have been unfortunate enough to see the previous upload, this is the storm that I was talking about.. hehe... :P :D

This is going straight to my portfolio coz this defines me as a photographer and the kind of work I like.

Hope you all like this....

And yes, I'm so touched by all your comments/faves/views on my stream, I read them over and over again inspite of the training that has me running most of the time....

I dedicate this to Ambuj Bhaiya, the one who believed in me so much that he bought and sent me the SLR that I wanted from Japan (My KissX2) inspite of me repeatedly saying "No, That'll be too much." and to Papa, who said, "Go, touch your dream. I'll take care."

I could have done this at the time when I posted my first shot from the SLR. But I was waiting for The photograph that could do what it was supposed to.

Love
