The gold dust day gecko (Phelsuma laticauda) is a diurnal species of gecko. It lives in northern Madagascar, and on the Comoros, it has been also introduced to Hawaii and other Pacific islands. It typically inhabits various kinds of trees and houses. The gold dust day gecko feeds on insects and nectar. It is commonly known as the mascot of GEICO.
This lizard belongs to the smaller day geckos, and can reach a total length of about 15–22 cm (6–9 in). The body colour is a bright green or yellowish green or rarely even blue. Typical for this day gecko are the yellow speckles on the neck and the upper back.
There are three rust-coloured transverse bars on the snout and head; the upper part of the skin around the eye is blue. On the lower back there are three tapering red bars. The tail is slightly flattened. The under side is off-white.
These day geckos feed on various insects and other invertebrates, and are also capable of eating other smaller lizards. They also eat soft, sweet fruit and pollen and nectar from flowers, often congregating in groups of many individuals to feed off of one plant.

Der Blaue Bambus-Taggecko (Phelsuma klemmeri) ist eine Echse aus der Familie der Geckos (Geckonidae). Er gehört zu den Taggeckos der Gattung Phelsuma. Mit einer Gesamtlänge von 8,5 bis 9,5 Zentimetern gehört er zu den kleinsten Vertretern dieser Gattung.
Der Blaue Bambus-Taggecko ist schlank und abgeflacht, der Kopf spitz zulaufend. Der Schwanz ist so lang wie der restliche Körper. Auffällig sind die gelbe Färbung des Kopfes mit dunkler Sprenkelung und der türkisfarbene Schwanz. Seitlich ziehen zwei breite, hellblau-türkise Streifen vom Nacken bis zum Schwanzansatz. Der Rücken ist glänzend braun bis grau und ebenfalls leicht gesprenkelt. Unterhalb der breiten türkisfarbenen Streifen zieht lateral je ein schwarzer Streifen, beginnend mit einem schwarzen Fleck hinter den Augen, bis zu den Hinterbeinen. Die Beine sind braun und hellblau marmoriert.
Die Unterseite ist hellgrau bis gelblich-weiß, die Kehle gelb mit einem schmalen v-förmigen Streifen, der sie begrenzt.
Die leicht hervorstehenden Augen besitzen einen auffälligen, gelben Ring, der von einem weiteren, braun-grauen umgeben ist. Von der Nasenöffnung zieht sich entlang der Schnauze auf jeder Seite ein schmaler, brauner Streifen bis zum Auge.
Der Blaue Bambus-Taggecko ist aufgrund seiner charakteristischen Färbung kaum mit anderen Taggeckoarten zu verwechseln.

If you touch a gecko toe it feels soft and smooth, and not sticky at all. If you pressed a gecko toe onto a hard surface it would not stick. The toe will only adhere when the microfibers (setae) are engaged, by dragging or sliding the toe parallel to the surface.

Die Taggeckos oder Phelsumen (Phelsuma) sind eine Gattung kleiner Echsen aus der Familie der Geckos (Geckonidae). Im Gegensatz zu der Mehrzahl der anderen Geckos sind Phelsumen bis auf Phelsuma guentheri tagaktiv, andere tagaktive Geckos gehören zu den Gattungen Lygodactylus, Sphaerodactylus, Quedenfeldtia und Gonatodes. Phelsuma ist als einzige Geckogattung neben Uroplatus komplett im Anhang 2 des Washingtoner Artenschutz-Übereinkommens aufgeführt
Die Färbung der Taggeckos erstreckt sich von einfachem Grün mit Farbtupfern bis zu komplexen gelb-blauen Mustern. Die Gesamtlänge von Phelsumen reicht von etwa 85 mm bis zu über 300 mm, wobei die meisten Arten knapp 200 mm erreichen. Sie haben runde Pupillen und besitzen keine Augenlider. Die ursprünglich vorhandenen oberen und unteren Augenlider sind im Laufe der Evolution zusammengewachsen und haben sich zu einer durchsichtigen Membran entwickelt. Beiderseits befindet sich hinter dem Trommelfell der endolymphatische Apparat, der häufig als Kalksäckchen bezeichnet wird. Der endolymphatische Apparat setzt sich zusammen aus einem beutelförmigen Saccus endolymphaticus und einem zuführenden Gang, dem Ductus endolymphaticus. Diese beiden Strukturen enthalten Calcium. Dieses Organ dient sowohl als Gleichgewichtsorgan als auch als Calciumspeicher. Die Weibchen benutzen diesen Speicher zur Eierschalenproduktion. Die Geschlechter sind hauptsächlich an den bei Männchen stark ausgebildeten Femoralporen oberhalb der Kloakenregion zu unterscheiden. Die Daumen sind im Vergleich zu den übrigen Zehen kurz. Die Schuppen an der Unterseite der Zehen werden als Subdigitallamellen bezeichnet. Sie sind in mehreren Längsreihen angeordnet. Die Subdigitallamellen sind einseitig mit 80-120 Mikrometer langen Setae (Haftborsten) besetzt. Diese Setae fasern sich wiederum in jeweils etwa 1000, endständig tellerförmig verbreitete, Spatulae auf. Diese Spatulae können sich in den kleinsten Unebenheiten eines Substrates verkrallen, weswegen Phelsumen auch an scheinbar glatten Oberflächen haften können.
