A Gold Dust Day gecko (Phelsuma laticauda) flirting with death. Probably attracted to insects or to the sweet secretion around the inner lip of the pitcher plant. www.flickr.com/photos/dweickhoff/14099785009/in/photostream/
Pitcher plants are pitfall carnivorous plants from southern Asia to Australasia.
Noticed this gecko checking out my pitcher plant (Nepenthes maxima). He would make a nice meal if he falls in and cannot get out. He got away...this time.
See what happened to other poor victims from this same plant.

Both of the above are introduced species. The small brown gecko ( Gehyria mutilata) is common in homes and gardens and is generally welcome as it eats small insects. During the day these brown house geckos hide behind pictures or furniture or in trees and shrubs but as the sun goes down they become active. Sometimes they can be heard rather than seen .. a strange noise which is a cross between a cricket and a laugh.
The larger green lizard, a phelsuma (tentative id - giant green day gecko or Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis ) from Madagascar, is a more recent introduction and is a less welcome visitor. Escaped or abandoned pets or introduced accidentally, they are slowly becoming more common. Much larger than our own phelsumas, these green gaints catch and eat native species.
