Phelsuma grandis is a diurnal arboreal species of day gecko (Phelsuma spp.). These geckos are part of the Phelsuma group, which consists of in excess of 70 species and subspecies. They are commonly referred to as the Madagascar giant day gecko, due to their large size.
They are native to areas of tropical and subtropical forest in northern Madagascar, but have been introduced to several other subtropical locations outside their range. P. grandis feeds on various invertebrates, very small vertebrates, and nectars.

So um 1990 entdeckt. Eine sehr kleine Art aus der Familie der Geckos. Der Frankfurter Zoo hat sich um die Nachzucht verdient gemacht. Wahrscheinlich hat auch dieses Tier aus der Wilhelma in Stuttgart diesen Weg genommen.
Auf Madagaskar kann man diesen Gecko nur mit viel Glück entdecken, da er außerordentlich selten ist.

The Mauritius ornate day gecko (Phelsuma ornata) is one of the smallest day gecko species endemic to Mauritius and a few small islands off the Mauritian coast. It can reach a total length of about 12 cm. The ornate day gecko is diurnal and feeds on nectar, pollen and small insects.
7 of these colorful fellows have now found a new home in the new Tropical house in the Botanical Garden of the University of Basel.

Der Ornament-Taggecko (Phelsuma ornata), der auf Mauritius und einigen kleinen Inseln vor der mauritischen Küste endemisch ist, ist eine der kleinsten Taggecko-Arten. Er kann eine Gesamtlänge von etwa 12 cm erreichen. Der Ornament-Taggecko ist tagaktiv und ernährt sich von Nektar, Pollen und kleinen Insekten.
7 dieser farbenfrohen Gesellen haben nun im neuen Tropenhaus des Botanischen Gartens der Universität Basel ein neues Zuhause gefunden.

I have to assume that they are the common house lizard in Northeast Madagascar as they were all over the place in Vohemar. That the gecko blended oh-so well with the pink walls of the beach cabin we were staying may even show that it may be one of the everpresent chameleons in the country. I only had one shot so you can actually detect its hurried movement as it scampered away when I took out my camera.

This is something you may not see everyday...but I do. Hundreds of these beautiful Day Geckos keep our household insect population down. Some people view these Geckos as pests. I actually love seeing them day after day.
