Amtrak’s new fleet wide paint scheme, known as Phase VII, is taking the railroad over by storm. While the scheme has yet to debut on passenger cars, locomotives have been rolling out of the shop left and right wearing the eye catching new paint. Here it is on the mighty Genesis locomotive leading the southbound Silver Star through Boca Raton, FL

A nice treat this morning was to find Amtrak's Phase 4 heritage unit, AMTK 164, leading the westbound Zephyr as the train crosses East Portal Road between Tolland and East Portal. Fall colors are about as good as they are going to get, offering a spectacular ride for passengers.

Amtrak 184 and 78 AMTK19 "The Crescent" depart Hattiesburg Depot bound for New Orleans "The Crescent City"
Amtrak's newest heritage unit leads the westbound California Zephyr over Donner Pass. Maintenance along the pass and heavy traffic slowed the train down a little bit for a good chunk of the trip but not long later the train would halt for two hours near Midas. By the time the train got to Roseville it would be several hours late.
Longtime exposure and a movment on one axe of the tripod made it able for me to shift the Molenfeuer in Warnemünde at the Molenfeuer.
Glitter eyeshadow has had several phases of popularity over the years! It first became mainstream in the 1960s and 1970s with the rise of glam rock. Icons like David Bowie and Cher popularized glitter as part of their bold, otherworldly looks.
The 1980s disco era took glitter to new heights, with shimmering outfits and makeup becoming a must-have for party-goers.

It's been cold enough at night that the first thin layers of ice are forming on larger rivers like the Saugeen in Southampton. After I took this shot, I noticed the CGS Samuel Risley just off the harbor entrance. I took a few pictures, but the ship was distorted by heat shimmer. It was cold so this had to be coming from the water. If that's indeed the case, there will be more then a phase transition in the river - we're in for a snowy winter.

It took me a most of a 4 mile hike to find an unmarred leaf that faded from yellow -> green going left to right. Apparently, most leaves change by mottling evenly.
Amtrak 145 shoves at the rear of train 790 through Seacliff. This was the original Amtrak heritage P42, having been painted in early 2011. It's still kicking a decade later.
There are two phases of snow removal, there and gone. Well, mostly gone. I'm not sure about Flickr Friday's policy on diptychs so this is a way to find out.

Most Impatiens species are annual or perennial herbs with succulent stems. Only a few woody species exist. Plant size varies dependent of the species from five centimetres to 2.5 meters. Stems are often rooting when becoming in contact with the soil. The leaves are entire, often dentate or sinuate with extra floral nectaries. Dependent of the species leaves can be thin to succulent. Particularly on the underside of the leaves, tiny air bubbles are trapped over and under the leaf surface, giving them a silvery sheen that becomes pronounced when they are held under water.
The zygomorph flowers of Impatiens are protandric. The calyx consists of five free sepals, of which one pair is oft strongly reduced. The non-paired sepal forms a flower spur producing nectar. In a group of species from Madagascar the spur is completely lacking, but they still have three sepals. The crown consists of five petals, of which the lateral pairs are fused each. The five stamens are fused and form a cap over the ovary, which falls off after the male phase. After the stamens have fallen off, the female phase starts and the stigma becomes receptive, which reduces self-pollination.
The scientific name Impatiens (Latin for "impatient") and the common name "touch-me-not" refer to the explosive dehiscence of the seed capsules. The mature capsules burst, sending seeds up to several meters away. Wikipedia
