...Scientists were not able to give a distinctive explanation of this phenomenon. It is known that appearance of Delleh's mirages is spontaneous and depends neither on a specific geographical position, nor on the day part.
It should be mentioned that the possibility of appearance is stronger in sparsely populated regions, on abandoned territories and wastes. However, cases of mirages in densely populated areas were recorded as well...

I was coming back to this place again and again trying to capture a new phantom. I had a long time wandering through the Buninskaya valley on the outskirts of Moscow.
I felt I will be lucky that day and kept searching systematically, trying not to pay attention to the bitter cold.
Delleh's Mirage appeared around 2 pm when I was already chilled to the bone.
This time it was a flying warship. I think if the fighter could be real, its repulsor system or something like had been damaged, and the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing...
Despite severe frost in that late night it was still possible to encounter people in the streets. The shot was made a moment before on the road next to the ravine exactly opposite the spot where I stood appeared half-drunk hobo pushing a stolen from the nearest supermarket trolley filled with unremarkable stuff. When he saw me he shouted in a characteristic hoarse manner: "Uuh! Wut are you.. shoo..ting here!?" Apparently, he decided the photographer had been waiting to take a picture of him. But I just silently pointed at the bottom of the ravine. He came closer and looked down. Phantom gradually dissolved in the frosty air. I bet I heard him cursing the booze he had been drinking ...

В тот день я чувствовал, что мне повезет и методично продолжал поиски, стараясь не обращать внимание на сильный мороз.
Мираж Дельлеха появился примерно около двух часов ночи, когда я уже промерз до мозга костей.
На этот раз я сумел запечатлеть фантом некоего летающего боевого корабля. Сложилось впечатление, что будь истребитель реальным, у него могла повредиться система репульсора или что-то вроде нее и пилот вынужден был совершить аварийную посадку...
Даже при сильном морозе в позднюю ночь на улице еще можно было встретить людей. Кадр был сделан за мгновение до того, как на дорогу рядом с оврагом ровно напротив того места, где стоял я, вышел полупьяный бродяга, толкая впереди себя тележку из ближайшего супермаркета, заполненную непримечательным хламом. Увидев меня, он крикнул характерным хриплым голосом: "Ээ! Ч-че ты тут... ф..фото... гра..ффируешь?" Видимо, решил, будто фотограф специально ждал появления его персоны. Но я лишь молча указал рукой на дно оврага. Он подошел поближе и глянул вниз. Фантом постепенно растворялся в морозном воздухе. Мне послышалось, что мужичок сквозь бороду проклинал пойло, употребленное им в этот день...

As I've said previously, I've been building this one in the background as it has more compromises than the 4B due to the colour / parts availablity (especially the dark tan parts) ....It also has a lot more sticker usage, especially as I've been trying to keep the cost down by using vinyl over black parts that I have lots of, rather than buying the green or dark green variants.....plus the green I have for matching the standard LEGO green is very slightly off, so I've had to use it all over the standard green parts : |
BUT, this camo colour scheme is too good to not build one as near as I can ;)
I took the Phantom quadcopter up over my subdivison this evening. I'm pretty happy with the results, and can't wait to get this to more exciting locations.

This extrusion of volcanic rock, known as Phantom Ship for its resemblance to a sailing vessel, is the oldest in Crater Lake caldera. By far the best view of Phantom Ship is from Sun Notch overlook

I'm now really happy with the result, so......
Adam and hiked out to Phantom Falls last Sunday. We decided to stay until sunset because we though the waterfall would be illuminated by a nice warm alpenglow...our predictions were slightly off, but I still think it was well worth the dark, cold, wet 2 mile hike back to the car : )

Over 40 years of commuters stepping in exactly the same place when stopping before the turnstile, caused these ghostly footprints to be worn into the granite tiles.
The photo was taken in 2012. The tiles, installed in 1966, were replaced in 2013.

Messier 74 (M74), nicknamed the Phantom Galaxy, is a grand design spiral galaxy located in the constellation Pisces. The Phantom galaxy can be very difficult to observe, as it has the 2nd lowest surface brightness of all the ones in the Messier catalog, hence its name: The Phantom.
USAF McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom II on display at the Lone Star Flight Museum. This plane is painted to resemble the plane flown by Col. Robin Olds, one of the leading air aces of the USAF during the Vietnam war.

Capable of Mach 2 flight, these planes were a mainstay of both the U.S. Air Force and Navy during the Vietnam war and remain the only type of plane flown by both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels flight demonstration teams. Designed and built by McDonnell Aircraft in the mid 1950s, they served in the U.S. military until the late 1990s, and some air forces around the world still use them. At one point, one of these planes held the world altitude record for air-breathing aircraft at over 100,000 feet (30,500 m).
The McDonnell Aircraft Company merged with Douglas in 1967 to form McDonnell-Douglas, then merged with Boeing thirty years later. During my years working at Johnson Space Center, McDonnell-Douglas had a large engineering presence and contributed greatly to the development of JSC's Mission Control Center. From their abbreviation McDAC, we informally referred to them as Mack Dack.
