The Phantom Ship reflecting in the caldera on a calm, clear morning at Crater Lake National Park.

Beautiful fall day in the PNW. The incoming dark clouds made the fall colors pop. (Processed w/ Snapseed.)

This rocky island is near the distance shore on my previous post. It's 500 feet long but small enough that it's not easy to see at that distance. Phantom Ship is the oldest rock within the caldera and is so steep that just a few feet away from the island the water is over 1,000 feet deep. Named for its ghosts hip-like appearance on foggy days.

When first she gleam'd upon my sight;

A lovely apparition, sent

To be a moment's ornament.

This shot was taken in the exact opposite of "foggy and low-light conditions".

Normally the only spirits to be seen in the "Catherine Wheel" are the 70% proof variety - despite the pubs name.

The breaking wheel or execution wheel, also known as the Wheel of Catherine or simply the Wheel, was a torture method used for public execution primarily in Europe from antiquity through the Middle Ages into the early modern period.
