Phantom Ranch is a resort village within Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. It is located on the north side of the Colorado River near its confluence with Bright Angel Creek and Phantom Creek. Phantom Ranch is on the US National Register of Historic Places.
Grand Canyon National Park is one of America's oldest national parks and is located in Arizona. Within the park lies the Grand Canyon, a gorge of the Colorado River, considered to be one of the major natural wonders of the world. The park covers 1,902 mi².
Most visitors to the park come to the South Rim, arriving on Arizona Highway 64. The Highway enters the park through the South Entrance, near Tusayan, Arizona, and heads eastward, leaving the park through the East Entrance. Park headquarters are at Grand Canyon Village, a short distance from the South Entrance, being also the center of the most popular viewpoints. Some thirty miles of the South Rim are accessible by road. A much smaller venue for tourists is found on the North Rim, accessed by Arizona Highway 67. There is no connection by road between the two, except via the Navajo Bridge, entailing a five-hour drive. The rest of the Grand Canyon is extremely rugged and remote, although many places are accessible by pack trail and backcountry roads.
The Grand Canyon itself—really an extensive system of tributary canyons— is neither the largest or deepest canyon in the world, but is valued for the combination of large size, depth, and the exposed layering of colorful rocks dating back to Precambrian times. It was created by erosion from the Colorado River and its tributaries.

Amtrak's exPRR Wilmington Maintenance Facility. We see an AEM-7, some HHP-8s, and a couple of the GP38H-3s rebuilt at the Juniata Shops years ago.
Though the F-4B Phantom II had satisfied the US Navy’s requirement for a fleet defense interceptor aircraft, the Navy realized that, like the USAF, it needed a more multirole aircraft; this was especially true of the Marine Corps, which were engaged in close air support efforts over South Vietnam. The F-4B could carry bombs, but not the more specialized precision weapons then entering service, and its accuracy was not as good as it could be. Other operational problems had cropped up with the F-4B, so the Navy ordered McDonnell Douglas to work on an upgrade, which would become the F-4J.
Externally, the F-4J could be recognized by three features: the lack of an undernose infrared sensor, larger main landing gear tires, and longer afterburner “cans.” The infrared sensor had been removed from the F-4B because it was no longer needed, and the extra room could be used for the F-4J’s more advanced radar, the APG-59. The uprated engines allowed the F-4J to carry more weaponry, which in turn meant a higher operational weight, which in turn meant that the aircraft would have a higher sink rate when coming aboard a carrier. Since this would also mean that the aircraft would be hitting the deck even harder, larger mainwheels were needed to absorb the shock. Finally, the larger wheels required a redesign of the wheelwells, but this was simplified by McDonnell Douglas adopting the wings of the USAF F-4C for the F-4J.
The Navy considered a slatted wing, which the USAF was considering for the F-4E at the time, but instead went for a less drag-inducing slotted stabiliator, which gave much of the same performance characteristics of a slatted wing (though it is worth noting that in the subsequent F-4S, the slatted wing was adopted). Despite being heavier, other minor improvements to the design actually reduced the F-4J’s landing speed over the F-4B’s by ten mph.
Unlike the USAF’s F-4D, which was a F-4C reworked for better ground attack capability, the F-4J also had significant upgrades to its air-to-air capability. The APG-59 radar, which was better at picking out targets in a look-down, shoot-down situation, was slaved to an AWG-10 fire control system. The J would also have better Sidewinder capability—it could carry both infrared and radar-guided models of the AIM-9—and improved electronic warfare equipment.
The first F-4J flew in June 1965 and entered the fleet in October 1966. This allowed the F-4J to see some service during Operation Rolling Thunder, which proved its worth as a fighter and fighter-bomber. The new radar was especially valuable in finding the smaller MiG-17s and MiG-21s of the North Vietnamese, which had become adept at using the mountainous terrain of their nation for concealment. Though the USMC would use the F-4J mainly in the close air support role, with the Navy it was most often used as a fighter, and it excelled in this role. F-4Js would not entirely replace the F-4B during the Vietnam War, but would soon after it ended. Most F-4Js were in turn upgraded to F-4S variants, allowing them to serve until the late 1980s, having been first replaced by the F-14 Tomcat in fleet defense roles and then the F/A-18 Hornet in all others.
The last Navy F-4 left active service in 1987, after which most were converted to QF-4 drones and expended. The F-4J was exported to only one customer, the British Royal Air Force, which bought 15 refurbished F-4Js to replace Phantom FGR.2s sent to defend the Falkland Islands after the Falklands War of 1982. These F-4J(UK)s served until 1990, and were upgraded with British electronics; they were the last F-4Js to see service. Today, of 522 F-4Js produced, about 12 survive, all in museums; only three are unmodified F-4Js.
The F-4J in the Malmstrom Museum is found in the Top Ace collection, and is Bureau Number 155800, assigned to VF-96 (“Fighting Falcons”) off the USS Constellation in 1972. This particular aircraft was flown by Lieutenants Randall Cunningham and William Driscoll on their three-kill ace mission on 10 May 1972. It was not their “assigned” aircraft, but that of the Commander of the Constellation’s Air Group, hence the multicolored stars on the fuselage and “100” aircraft number. It is painted in overall light gray over white, with typically gaudy markings common to US Navy aircraft during the Vietnam War. It is configured as Cunningham and Driscoll’s aircraft was on 10 May, with two AIM-7F Sparrows, four AIM-9J Sidewinders, and six Rockeye cluster bomb units, along with two external fuel tanks. The real aircraft was shot down by a surface-to-air missile shortly after Cunningham and Driscoll scored their fifth kill, though both men survived.

This Phantom I was called "windblown" because of its reverse slanting lines. It was built by New York-based coachbuilder Brewster.
Phantom Spring Ranch got its name when my parent's first saw it. They visited the property in the summer having read about the numerous springs in the real estate posting.
Upon arrival, there was no sign of springs on the ranch except for the Little Prickly Pear creek which is seen in this photo.
Turns out the primary spring runs into the creek at the base of this small hill. You can see it in the hint of open water in the otherwise frozen creek. It's the outlet of the spring and is just warm enough to remain ice free throughout the year.
At other times of the year, a few other springs run in the gulches of the dry hills north of the ranch house.
The creek, numerous beaver ponds, marsh areas, and flat meadows are the reasons my parents bought the place.
The creek is mentioned in one of the stories in the book 'A River Runs Through It' by Norman Maclean. The story notes the Sieben ranch which neighbors this one - at 80,000 acres it's a significantly larger stretch of land than Phantom Springs.
Although only 30-45 minutes outside Helena, the capital of Montana (population 26,000), the valley and surrounding hills remain ranch land.
The creek and surrounding marshes are host to brown and rainbow trout, river otters, beavers, and nesting pairs of bald eagles and Sandhill Cranes. An occasional swan has flown through on migration.
The rest of the property is dry ranch land. It's host to many deer, elk, coyote, and more rattlesnakes than I care to have seen in my lifetime. My parents have also seen black bear, mountain lions, and one of the wolves from the original Yellowstone re-introduction pack. The wolf was identified after being tranquilized by rangers chasing it by helicopter.
It's a special place we love visiting throughout the year.

I love creating space scenes and using the fractal variations can create some wonderful landscapes with a bit of adjusting. This one is fractal_salamander_wf with a few additional variations on T1 and T2 is linear3D. I grabbed a background image of the Milky Way from Pixabay and rendered this to a quality of 2000. I will post a link to the parameters on my art page.

The PIC board connects to the 5110 battery contacts to power the phone and the cut yellow wire on the left originally connected the PIC to the power button on the front of the phone.
To the bottom left you can see the GSM antenna lead that was plugged into the rear antenna connector on the 5110.

(Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum) June 21, 1972 - In this aircraft, then a Navy F-4J, on June 21, 1972, Cmdr. S. C. Flynn and his radar intercept officer, Lt. W. H. John, spotted three enemy MiG fighters off the coast of Vietnam and shot down one MiG-21 with a Sidewinder air-to-air missile. This Phantom also flew combat air patrols and bombing missions during the Linebacker II bombing campaign that same year.
Later assigned to the Marine Corps, this F-4J was extensively modernized and designated an F-4S. Changes included improving the engines (smokeless), hydraulics, electronics, and wiring; modifying the wings to increase maneuverability; and adding a radar homing and warning antenna, as well as formation tape lights on the fuselage and vertical tail.
