Landing refers to the importance of the location of Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. Originally named Ross’s Landing, this settlement developed as a connection point to the transit of people, goods, and information that took place on the river. In the early days of Chattanooga, rivers were the highways. Landing is intended to be a sculptural celebration of the event of touchdown or ‘landing’ on the riverbank. In this sculpture, three monumental oar-like elements connect to a curved steel plane suggestive of a boat hull. The tips of the oars make contact with the curved element on the ground, which is symbolic of the riverbank.
Artist John Davis was selected from a national competition by a local jury to create two works for the City of Chattanooga’s public art collection. The sculptures were made possible with a generous grant from the Benwood Foundation. Additional support for this project provided by the Chattanooga Land Company, the City of Chattanooga and the Riverfront Business and Resident Partnership.

Hermosillo, Sonora, Mayo 03 de 2011.- La participación ciudadana y la coordinación de los tres niveles de gobierno es factor determinante en Sonora para lograr resultados positivos en la lucha contra el narcotráfico y la delincuencia organizada, coincidieron el Gobernador Guillermo Padrés y el Gral. Andre Foullón Van Lissum Comandante de la IV Zona Militar.
Tan solo en el último año gracias a 457 denuncias ciudadanas se lograron confiscar en la entidad 532 armas, detenido a 200 presuntos delincuentes, incautar droga y destruir plantíos de marihuana con pérdidas para los narcotraficantes por más de mil 500 millones de pesos.
De pie y con un aplauso reconoció el Gobernador Padrés la labor del Ejército y las fuerzas de seguridad al encabezar el foro “Desarrollo Integral para un Sonora Seguro”.
Tanto el mandatario estatal como el General Andre Foullón destacaron que la participación de los ciudadanos es sin duda factor clave para asegurar el éxito de la lucha que hoy libra el estado mexicano en contra de los carteles de la droga y que amenazan desintegrar a las familias mexicanas.
“En Sonora con una coordinación operativa eficaz y un trabajo permanente de prevención hemos podido contener el problema y seguimos reforzando la estrategia para lograr superarla”, aseguró el jefe del Ejecutivo.
El Comandante de la IV Zona Militar reconoció públicamente que gracias a las llamadas ciudadanas de los sonorenses el Ejército mexicano ha logrado importantes decomisos de drogas, armas y detención de personas involucraras en hechos delictivos.
“Esto marcará la diferencia en el Sonora seguro que todos buscamos y que estamos convencidos que permeara en el resto del país”, dijo Comandante Van Lissum.
Legisladores, académicos, empresarios, padres de familia, funcionarios públicos responsables de las áreas de seguridad como así como de derechos humanos acudieron a este foro convocado por jefe del Ejecutivo para replantear acciones, tomar ideas y con ello fortalecer de manera integral la seguridad de los sonorenses.
El rector de la Universidad de Sonora Heriberto Grijalva Monteverde y el coordinador de los organismos empresariales Ernesto Brau destacaron que todos tenemos una parte de responsabilidad y un rol que asumir en esta lucha que libran las corporaciones mexicanas.
“Esta es la oportunidad de trabajar en equipo, que cada uno ponga su granito de arena. Estamos puestos y dispuestos al trabajo”, dijo Ernesto Brau el representante del empresariado mexicano.
En nombre de la academia el rector de la Universidad de Sonora, Heriberto Grijalva Monteverde confió que las propuestas que aquí surjan sirvan para mejorar el clima de seguridad que se vive en Sonora.
“Impunidad y desintegración familiar es un panorama que preocupa a los sonorenses y que juntos debemos enfrentar”, aseguró.
El Gobernador Padres reconoce labor del Ejército y policías en el Estado
El Gobernador Padres rompió el protocolo para eventos de esta naturaleza y pidió un aplauso de pie a la labor conjunta del Ejército mexicano y los cuerpos de seguridad que han hecho de Sonora el estado más seguro de la frontera norte del Estado por su arriesgada labor de salvaguardar la vida de las familias sonorenses.
En este contexto se dijo complacido y sorprendido de que el Ejército muestre apertura y pida a la ciudadanía participe y ayude en esta lucha frontal contra el crimen organizado.
“En mi experiencia como ciudadano y político es de las primeras veces que las fuerzas armadas nos convocan a participar con ellos a atener un rol más activo en esta lucha y debemos aceptar y enfrentar este reto”, puntualizó.
Reconoció que sin análisis sin reflexión y sin atacar las fuentes que propician la inseguridad a lo más que podríamos aspirar seria a “encontrar meros calmantes para un mal que requiere medios eficaces y contundentes”.
Por ello este foro y la constitución de un Comité Ciudadano por la Seguridad que recoja las ideas, propuestas e inquietudes de la sociedad serán fundamentales para aspirar a tener
mejores resultados en esta lucha donde “el nuevo Sonora no piensa quedarse de brazos cruzados”, concluyó.
Reconoció que el tema de la seguridad es un problema que atañe a todos y todos debemos cerrar filas no solo en la persecución del delito sino en acciones sociales que fomenten la prevención.
El Secretario Ejecutivo de Seguridad dijo que las ideas y propuestas que aquí se expongan serán tomadas en cuenta y se le dará su debido seguimiento por que en Sonora la voz del ciudadano si se escucha.
Asistieron, el Secretario de Seguridad Pública Ernesto Munro Palacio, el Comandante de la IV Zona Militar Andre George Foullón Van Lissum, el rector de la Universidad de Sonora, Heriberto Grijalva Monteverde.

The main attraction is the large engine, the steam engine with the largest cylinder diameter in the world, almost 3.5 m. The steam cycle of the Cruquius engine is virtually the same as that of a regular Cornish engine. The Cornish mine-pumping engine is characterized by a beam, pivoted on a massive wall, with the vertical steam cylinder under one end of the beam and the pump rod suspended from the other. The Cornish pumping engine is a descendant of the Newcomen engine, via the engines of James Watt. The Cruquius engine has a peculiar and ingenious valve control system, the valve gear. This was a bold step: steam power had never been used on this scale before, and earlier applications on a smaller scale had met with mixed success. There was also reluctance to experiment with such an important provision as polder drainage. In addition, expensive coal would have to be imported, unless peat could be used (but experiments with that failed).
A visit to Cornwall GB had convinced the committee of the reliability and efficiency of the Cornish pumping engine. This type of engine was used for pumping relatively small quantities of water out of deep mines. To make them suitable for land drainage, i.e. large quantities at relatively low lift, considerable adaptation of the standard design would be required. In addition, the proposed scale of the three pumping stations exceeded anything previously built. One of the three stations, Leeghwater, was built and tested first to make the risks more manageable. This caused some delay, but it permitted design adjustments for the remaining two: Lynden and Cruquius. The initial drainage took from 1849 to 1852. All three pumping stations worked continually at maximum capacity, with a few interruptions. Later they kept the polder dry, and were idle during long periods. As agricultural needs changed, the water-table had to be kept within stricter limits, with shorter, intense pumping periods. It turned out that Cruquius, even with more boilers, could power only seven pumps at full lift, so one pump remained permanently disconnected.
The other pumping stations of the Haarlemmermeer, Leeghwater and Lynden, were modernized over the years, and have provided the polder's drainage to this day. After a period on stand-by Cruquius finally became redundant in 1932. An initiative was taken to preserve it. In 1933 pumping station became one of the first industrial monuments in the Netherlands. After 1932 the boilers were removed and scrapped. Otherwise the drainage station is just as it was built in 1846-1849. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) designated the Cruquius steam drainage pumping station the 33rd International Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1991. The ASME Landmarks Program recognizes our technological heritage and serves to encourage the preservation of the physical remains of historically important works.

O Museu do Fado foi inaugurado a 25 de Setembro de 1998 e é um museu consagrado ao universo do fado e da guitarra. O museu localiza-se no bairro de Alfama em Lisboa, Portugal.
Este espaço cultural conta com uma exposição permanente, um espaço de exposições temporárias, um centro de documentação, uma loja temática, um auditório, um restaurante e a Escola do Museu, onde são ministrados cursos de guitarra portuguesa e de viola de Fado, e onde é possível frequentar um seminário para letristas. A Escola disponibiliza igualmente um gabinete de ensaios para intérpretes.
Desde 2016 os museu disponibiliza, através da Internet, um Arquivo Sonoro Digital com acesso a milhares de registos sonoros desde o início do século XX, via pesquisa por intérprete e repertório.
A reabilitação
Reaberto ao público em 1998, depois de uma renovação da sua exposição permanente, o Museu do Fado oferece uma leitura multidisciplinar da história da canção urbana de Lisboa desde a sua génese até à actualidade. Em exposição o visitante poderá encontrar, a par de uma multiplicidade de objectos ligados à canção de Lisboa (instrumentos, troféus, discos, partituras), o célebre quadro “O Fado”, de José Malhoa bem como obras de Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, Constantino Fernandes, Cândido Costa Pinto, João Rodrigues Vieira, Júlio Pomar, entre outros artistas portugueses.
Um conjunto de postos de consulta interactiva documentando a história do Fado, possibilitam a consulta das biografias de centenas de personalidades ligadas ao Fado. Ao longo do percurso museológico, o audioguia permite a audição de várias dezenas de fados.
Edifício
O museu está instalado na a "Estação Elevatória de Águas de Alfama", um dos mais importantes edifícios de equipamento lisboetas do século XIX, estando em vias de classificação como Imóvel de Interesse Municipal. O edifício, uma obra de engenharia de Joaquim Pires de Sousa Gomes e de Paiva Couceiro, começou a ser construído em 1868. Entre várias funções funcionou, entre 1974 e 1990, também como Centro de Trabalho do Partido Comunista Português. Entre 1995 e 1998 foi alvo de remodelação e ampliação, da autoria dos arquitetos João e José Daniel Santa-Rita, para acolher o Museu do Fado e da Guitarra Portuguesa.

People nowadays live several lives in one. One in the real world, on the streets, at tables, in bed. And many online. Smartphones make it easy to travel permanently between these worlds. This permanent travelling between world worries me. It causes traffic accidents. It distracts us. It makes us dismindful, which makes us feel tired. It disconnects us. And maybe the most worrying: it desocializes us (according to research of MIT-professor Sherry Turkle 2012-2017).
With my photography series #CaughtintheApp I am welcoming back people to their first - non virtual - life, reconnecting their souls to their bodies.
I'm using my 35mm lens (Nikon D300s) to give the catching a tinge of prey and predator play. The catching works easy: I choose my 'hot zone', make it my place and I just wait for people to get caught in the app. Most of the pictures were taken from a distance of less than three meters between me and the object.
After taking the picture I thank the people for sharing this moment with me and I ask them what they were using their phone for. Most of them thank me in return for pointing them at this awkward addictive habit and admit that they're just scrolling Whatsapp, Instagram, Tinder or one or another news site. Nothing urgent usually.
The series is still in progress. My goal is to expand my series to 100 pieces (or even more).

Just a new experimental photo project. I'm trying to catch people people playing with their smartphone in a social environment.
Iedereen met een smartphone kent het moment dat iemand je wijst op dat je - totaal ongepast - met je telefoon zit, loopt of ligt te spelen. In een vergadering, op straat of zelfs in bed naast je geliefde. Soms levert het slechts irritatie op. Niet zelden leidt het ook regelrecht tot gevaarlijke situaties. Want als je met je aandacht bij je Whatsapp, Nu.nl of Snapchat bent, heb je nou eenmaal minder aandacht voor het verkeer of wat collega’s proberen met je te delen. Met mijn Caught in the App / Betrappt foto’s leg ik mensen in dit soort momenten vast en breng ik ze terug in de wereld waarin ze fysiek met hun benen staan.
Voor mijn serie Caught in the App / Betrappt ga ik op jacht naar mensen die in bijzijn van anderen hun telefoon gebruiken. Ik leg ze vast, vlak na het moment dat ze zich door mij betrapt voelen. Voor mijn serie gebruik ik een portretlens, waardoor er een roofdier- en prooi-achtig spel ontstaat. “Van hoe nabij kan ik een onbekende fotograferen, die in zijn telefoon verzonken is?”
Na het maken van de foto bedank ik de deelnemers voor hun medewerking. Bijna iedereen glimlacht en bedankt mij vervolgens dat ik hem of haar even terug in het hier en nu bracht.
