Pearlescent varnish makes the color "shift" as it turns in the light. Very unique.
Striving for Raw & Organic natural designs, my "Art Gem" series has given me some of my most satisfying results. Each one is unique, with patterns that reflect beautiful natural flowing elements.
The technique I use to make these result in paintings that are everything from electric, wild & full of movement to calm surreal dreams. Some have described them as topo maps from a distant colorful planet, and like the outer reaches of another galaxy.

Made with layers of custom mixed acrylic & pearlescent paints, inks, powders, varnishes & copper leafing liquid.

This is a portrait of Tori. It is the first of a series paintings based upon self-portrait photos of flickr members. My aim was to capture the delicacy of her features and her pearlescent skin tones. (oil/canvas, 11x14 inches)

Baby blue little doll with organza dress and flower and gem detail. Wings are cut from pearlescent baby blue card with tiny 3d dots around the edge. Tiny dots are also around the edge of the card.
Issued by Franklin Mint in 2005. It is 1:24 scale.

The Honda VFR800 in pearlescent white. White would not usually be my first choice, but I loved the why the light catches the flecks in the paint.

Our little Rosetta sportin' a handmade SUPER soft and fluffy kitty cap. I'm sure these will fit a Blythe as well since the material is pretty stretchy and their heads are slightly larger. And also, the eyes on this cap are really pretty and pearlescent pink.

Year made 1987, one piece curly maple neck, bound head veneer with mother of pearl and abalone inlays, 13 7/8 scale, bound ebony fingerboard, mother of pearl position markers, solid carved spruce top, solid carved curly maple back, solid curly maple rim, tuned top and back. Gold machine heads with pearlescent buttons, engraved gold tail piece, adjustable Fishman pickup bridge.
I was hoping for a fabulous sunset but instead I was treated to a fabulous display of nacreous/rainbow clouds. These are a bit of a rarity but the second in a week, I missed the first ones.
My friend showed me this wonderful seashell he had gotten from his grandmother. I was totally mesmerized.

Bill Mitchell's "Yellow Bird" 1975 Eldorado convertible. Done by GM Stylist Blaine Jenkins, it features pearlescent yellow paint, special two tone yellow interior with custom seat styling, deleted headrests, chrome A-pillars, and engine turned dash fascia.
This was actually far more beautiful than it looks... but I was surrounded on all sides by trees, so I couldn't get a wider shot.
I made her some handmade resin eye chips (they're filled with pearlescent shimmer and silver and black glitter. There's a rhinestone in each one somewhere too :))
Disco is a hybrid RBL girl. She's got a Simply Mango scalp and body with translucent factory face and back plates.
