Moray Eel. I actually can't remember taking this shot when I was diving, but it turned out pretty well nonetheless. Someone commented that it looks like the eel has got lipstick on :-)
I could have stood for hours at each of these stops, watching the birds "talk" and "play" with each other... alas, I had an impatient husband and limited time :)

An oversized game of 52 Pick Up at Children's Fairyland in Oakland, California.
The storybook park opened in 1950, and was visited by a man planning a theme park of his own. Walt Disney got plenty of ideas, and even a couple of Children's Fairyland's original employees, and put them to work when he opened Disneyland.
The Qutub Minar rising shyly from between the other ruins scattered around the complex....
Part of the reason I chose sepia for this was because it was such a dull rainy day and everything felt so washed out in my camera! That apart, the charcter of the Minar and the complex is such that it begs for sepia treatment... most of the structures - or what remains of it - are in red sandstone / brown stone...
This is what I found about the Qutub Minar - at 72.5 metres (237.8 ft) and requiring 379 steps to get to the top, this it the world's tallest brick minaret. Work on this was started in 1193 and went on in bits and pieces for close to two centuries, and was finally completed in 1368...

"Though April showers may come your way,
They bring the flowers that bloom in May."
Can someone help me identify this flower?
This jellyfish has got very very long tentacles, and I got really close to it...with my lens almost touching it. Anything to get a good shot!!

I don't know if there really is such a thing, but to me, sure looks like one, caught it at the Peace Fountain Park in Windsor, Ontario.

Teriyaki veggie bowl at the Logan, UT Hogi Yogi/Teriyaki Stix. Yes, a restaurant that serves hoagie/subs, frozen yogurt, and teriyaki bowls. Not the greatest food but it's cheap and quick.
This is one of the only macro/closeups I've ever taken with a tripod. I have a small tabletop tripod but usually forget to grab it when I'm out and about taking photos.
I really like the light playing along the rim of the black plastic bowl, and the DOF and colors turned out pretty well.
UPDATE: The Hogi Yogi in Logan closed about four months ago, along with the Greywhale record store next door. Neither business was particularly welcoming (teenagers manning the cash registers, of course!) but I still feel a little bummed when I drive by now. It was nice having another (cheap) option for eating out here, since most of the restaurants are pretty lousy in Cache Valley. Oh well.
An abstract shot of a Slinky, taken with a macro lens. No color adjusments done, border added in photoshop.
Starbucks gets a good laugh at the fools who involved theirselves with their scam "Pay It Forward". The only one benefitting from this scam is Starbucks.

here is something extraordinary for you guys!
On or around, December 12th, photographers around the world will be grabbing their cameras, finding people in need, and taking their picture. When the prints are ready, the photographs get delivered.
that's it.
this is called HELP -PORTRAIT movement, founded by celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart. (please CHECK the site for more info).
It's about giving the pictures, not taking them.
It's about making someone happy without expecting anything in return.
I will be involded in this project and I can't wait to see what's going to happen.
let's make a difference.
in our lives and in the lives of others.
Wishing today that I were lying on the beach and feeling a nice breeze! :)
This photo was taken in April, 2006. The palms were once much thicker and full in this area, but hurricane Wilma decided to do a little thinning. The resort was working on filling them in some while we were there. Also, sadly, there may be some more changes coming about, human changes and not mother nature changes...
Everyday I see things changing where I live. More forests being devistated to make way for wider roads, more houses, more strip malls, etc... It drives me crazy! So, this is our escape: A small, simple, low-key resort on the Mayan Rivera in Mexico. My husband and I have been blessed to be able to frequent this place for the past 13 years. It has changed hands a couple of times, but has virtually remained the same. I would say that 70 to 80% of the phenominal employees have remained the same since the resort opened about 14 years ago. They are like a family and most of them remember our names and seem genially happy to see us everytime we visit. They work extremely hard and are always smiling. This resort is small in size, but is situated on a lot of land, so you feel like there is never anyone on top of you. It sits so far off of the road and into the jungle, that if you stay in this resort on this wide expanse of beach, you will not hear or see a car. We love it! Yet, money talks. Palace Resorts (a timeshare company) has recently put a contract on this resort. The management is afraid that that Palace resorts will eventually tear up the jungle surrounding the resort and fill the land with condos. It sickens me to think of it. We are praying that for some reason the deal will never be closed. But I am afraid that if Palace Resorts does not buy it then someone else will come along with the same intentions. I am told the resort is selling for $50 million. So, maybe one of you who appreciates hidden gems like these has an extra $50 mil burning a hole in your pocket.
An update: I recently received a very nice email from Palace Resorts telling me that they realized what a gem this resort is and that they plan on making little to no changes. I hope that this is true. I guess only time will tell...
The ship in the foreground is HQS Wellington and according to the history of HQS Wellington, it has been berthed at its current location at Victoria Embankment since 1948
From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HQS_Wellington
"HMS Wellington (launched Devonport, 1934) is a Grimsby class sloop of the Royal Navy. During World War II she served as a convoy escort ship in the North Atlantic. She is now moored at Victoria Embankment on the Thames as the headquarters ship of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners where she is known as HQS Wellington."
With the Sun directly overhead there were no dark shadows on the flower and i think this looks like cool blue flames coming from a red hot center.
Postproduction note: There was a bit of burning done to remove a stray straw in the water behind. The water being black was straight out of the camera.
DPP Processed with 1 stop brightness added with faithful settings.
Auto Contrast done in PS.
I am pleased to see that this photo has been so popular. She insisted on running on the tracks, and I had to keep chasing her and yelling at her to slow DOWN! I totally thought she was going to biff it!
The effect used here is PhotoBlasts "Midnight Color"
PS I like it crooked!

Inside the Qutub Minar complex, I found many people sitting idly on the window sills, generally watching life around them -the reluctant sun peeping through the rain clouds, cheerful tourists and bored regulars, the birds creating a racket...
This is what I found about the Qutub Minar which is the tall tower in the centre of this huge complex - at 72.5 metres (237.8 ft) and requiring 379 steps to get to the top, this is the world's tallest brick minaret. Work on this was started in 1193 and went on in bits and pieces for close to two centuries, and was finally completed in 1368...

On occasion, when parking, I would have to put change in a parking meter.
I like to take this opportunity to Pay it Forward.
If, when I am ready to leave, there is money still in the meter, I would go out of my way to tell another driver who is looking to park, to take my spot. The reaction is priceless. It’s such a small gesture of kindness with a big impact.
How do you pay it forward?
