The continued drought in North Texas produces some intriguing color in the landscape.

This is a handheld multiple exposure image blended with Photomatix software.

As with all high dynamic range imaging, this is much better if viewed at the larger sizes....

Swirls of green inside our canna garden - including my favorite cooperative green tree frog.

Here's hoping you someday have a fun frog in front of your lens.

Glacier National Park, August 2006

Our last morning in Glacier, we decided to take the Going-to-the-Sun Road through the park on our way back to Missoula and our flight home. The forest fire had partially closed the main highway around the park, and with the detour it would take us about as long either way, so we choose the more scenic route.

Looking back along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, we could easily see the smoke from the forest fires as it clung to the valley. And while it looks like fog, it smelled like a campfire.

I find that nature's delicate creations are some of the most stunning things to capture with a lens. The image is the inside of an amaryllis that is blooming in our kitchen.

This is a handheld shot taken with a Nikon D80 coupled with a Nikkor 18-200mm vibration reduction lens. The black background is poster board and I used the onboard flash of the camera to highlight the details.

First photo uploaded after a 10 day camping trip to Guernsey...

70s f/9.0

One of a number of compositions on the banks of the Guernsey reservoir tonight. I expect I'll be posting the others over the next day or so.

Yippie! This one got onto the Explore front page :-)

Back in April this incredible barking tree frog appeared magically in our canna gardens and I took over 300 shots of him during a one hour shoot.

This is one of the many images from that shoot that have laid dormant in my files until I had a chance to review them a second time earlier this week.....

We sat with cups of tea in our hands watchig the sun go down the hills and the plains in the distance, turning the sky into magicland.... I cannot think of a better life...

Sunset over Windermere.

Taken around the same time as this shot but without the people on the jetty and much of the sky cropped.

This is a handheld multiple exposure blended image taken with a Nikon D70. One frame was over exposed, one underexposed and one at correct exposure and then they were blended with Photomatix software. This blending allows the final image to more closely approximate the actual color and light of the scene as seen by the human eye.

I know it seems a bit hard to believe, but the prairie grass along the track was really that distinctive color of orange. It caught my eye immediately and that's why I jumped out of the car for the shot. You can see the whole scene better at the larger sizes.

Like many photographers, my photo subjects vary from week to week. One week it might be a focus on macros, and another week a focus on portraits.

I recently got a plaintive email from one my friends here on Flickr asking me if I was ever going to do any more HDR (high dynamic range) work - and that got me to realize that I had not done much in that genre in several weeks.

Thus, here's a multiple exposure blended image of the large Ferris Wheel against a magical Texas sky at Fair Park in Dallas...

The VR (vibration reduction) lens allow me to take these type of closeup shots without the use of a tripod. The background is black poster board.

I got very lucky on this shot - the clouds parted just slightly above this Fountain Place skyscraper in downtown Dallas, Texas and I got to capture a slice of blue sky and the sun overhead.

My midnight stroll and first time to the Gray's Lake walking bridge.

A multiple exposure blended shot taken with a Nikon D70....one over exposed, one under exposed and one correctly exposed. The HDR image was rendered with Photomatix software.

A lucky shot.....when I looked up I saw a chimney which appears to be generating clouds.

The crowded streets of San Francisco before a Giants game. I like that some rush to take their seats and others just hang around, talking. Taken From the View section of AT&T Park.

Grand Teton National Park, August 2006

As I was taking my earlier shot of the South Moulton Barn, I heard someone nearby exclaim, "Watch out for the bison!" I looked up, and saw a herd of bison running in my general direction towards the barn. So, I wisely relocated, putting a fence between myself and the bison, and watched as the herd stampeded past the area where I had just been standing. As I gazed in amazement while the the herd ran by, I managed to snap this shot, and a few others that I'll post later.
