Croagh Patrick, nicknamed 'The Reek,' has been a site of pilgrimage, especially at the summer solstice, since before the arrival of Celtic Christianity. Saint Patrick reputedly fasted on the summit of Croagh Patrick for forty days in the fifth century and built a church there. Popular legend says that at the end of Patrick's 40-day fast, he threw a silver bell down the side of the mountain, knocking the she-demon Corra from the sky and banishing all the snakes from Ireland.

On "Reek Sunday", the last Sunday in July every year, over 15,000 pilgrims climb it. A small white chapel, built in 1905, is visible at the top in this shot.

A seam of gold was discovered in the mountain in the 1980s: overall grades of 14 grams (0.45 ozt) of gold per tonne in at least 12 quartz veins, which could produce 700,000 t of ore — potentially over 300,000 troy oz of gold (worth over €360m). Mayo County Council elected not to allow mining.

Most of the time my hardest part of my day is trying to get home from work. Getting to the freeway on-ramp and on to the freeway. The Los Angeles 405fwy, well known nationally. Trust me, your not missing anything. I usually take this route home and from time to time you see the same folks coming and going. With this, you see the same guys along the on-ramp with their signs. They travel the area, some have it really good and some don't. I am always intrigued about their signs. The words they use, their spelling, wondering where they got a pen. Well, meet Patrick, my 86th stranger to my project. I have seen Patrick off and on for some time now. I was stuck in this spot for a minute or so. You can tell the angle I took this image from inside my car looking down a bit. Great sun flare right across his face coming from the west. I find it so interesting that he is wearing a USC School of Engineering cap. I'm going to have to ask him next time where he got it as he is so close to UCLA right here. Patrick barely has any teeth but is pretty confident around people. Patrick is a stranger no more to me as I now know his name and will no doubt see him soon. I know these guys can be very aggressive and for some it is an act. Those that accept food and not through it back at you or curse that they want money instead I tend to favor. Thanks Patrick!

Patrick Duffy (1949) is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Bobby Ewing in the popular television series Dallas (1978-1991). He had his breakthrough with the television series Man from Atlantis (1977-1978). He is also known as Frank Lambert in the Sitcom Step by Step (1991-1998), and as Stephen Logan in the Soap Opera The Bold and the Beautiful (2006–2011, 2022-2023).

Patrick Duffy was born in 1949 in Townsend, Montana. He was the second child and only son of Marie and Terence Duffy. He was named Patrick because he was born on St Patrick's Day. His family owned a local tavern. As a child, Duffy always wanted to be a professional athlete, so he became a certified diver as a teenager. At the age of 12, Duffy moved to Everett, Washington, where he attended Cascade High School. As a member of the Drama Club and the Pep Club, he participated in various school dramas. His passion for acting led him to the Professional Actors Training Programme at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was one of the few people selected from more than 1,200 applicants. He graduated in 1971 with a degree in drama. In his final year of university, Duffy ruptured both of his vocal cords, but he created the position of actor-in-residence, where he worked as an interpreter for ballet, opera, and orchestra companies in Washington. He also taught mime and movement classes. During that time, he first met his wife, Carlyn Rosser, a ballet dancer who was then working with the First Chamber Dance Company in New York. At his wife's urging, Patrick Duffy moved to New York, where he worked on several Broadway plays while also working as a carpenter to earn a decent living. He acted in an Off-Broadway production of William Inge's play 'Natural Affection'. Duffy and his wife subsequently relocated to Los Angeles, California, at the suggestion of Duffy's agent. Duffy appeared in a Taco Bell commercial in the early 1970s, playing an employee describing an Enchirito. He continued to struggle as an actor, taking on minor roles in films and television shows while working as a delivery van driver for a florist. In 1977, Duffy finally made his breakthrough with the television series Man from Atlantis (1977-1978). He played Mark Harris, a creature from the lost island of Atlantis who was discovered by a scientist. In a 2021 interview with David A. Weiner, Duffy credits his sister, an international champion diver, with teaching him the necessary swimming techniques for his first career break. The show was cancelled the following year, after which he landed his career-defining role in the Soap Opera Dallas, which premiered in early 1979. In Dallas, Patrick Duffy played the good guy, Bobby Ewing, opposite Barbara Bel Geddes as his mother, Ellie and Larry Hagman as his brother, the notorious J.R. Ewing. The show became a phenomenal worldwide success. Duffy remained with the show until 1985, when he decided to leave. He stated that he was tired of playing the 'good guy' and wanted to explore interesting options. His character was killed off to mark his departure from the show. The following year, Duffy was asked to rejoin the cast of Dallas because his exit caused a drop in the show's ratings. His character made a comeback in the famous “shower scene”, where his demise would turn out to be just a dream. He played the role until the show finally ended in 1991. In 1986, Duffy suffered a tragedy when two teenagers, Kenneth Miller and Sean Wentz, robbed and murdered Duffy's parents, Terrence and Marie Duffy, at the couple's Boulder Bar in Montana. The two killers were captured, convicted of double murder and were each sentenced to 180 years in prison. Later, Wentz recanted his testimony and told prosecutors he was the one who murdered the couple, but in 2000, Miller's appeal for clemency was denied, but he was released on parole in 2007. Wentz was granted parole in 2015

Throughout the 13-year run of Dallas, Patrick Duffy directed several episodes of the series. He also appeared in many episodes of the spin-off series Knots Landing between 1979 and 1982. Along with Dallas fame, Duffy tried his hand at singing. In 1983, he had a hit in Europe with 'Together We're Strong', a duet with French singer Mireille Mathieu. At the end of Dallas' run in 1991, Duffy was cast as Frank Lambert in the comedy-drama series Step by Step (1991-1998) opposite Suzanne Somers. In the show, Duffy and Somers play single parents with three children each. The two characters, who were complete opposites in nature, became a minefield of punchlines that greatly appealed to the audience, and the show ran for seven years. Duffy appeared in two Dallas television films: J.R. Returns (Leonard Katzman, 1996) and War of the Ewings (Michael Preece, 1998). He was also the co-producer of both films. He then made brief appearances in various television programmes, including Touched by an Angel and Reba. He also lent his voice to television series such as Justice League and Family Guy. In 2006, Duffy joined the cast of the daytime television drama The Bold and the Beautiful, where he played the role of Stephen Logan till 2011. In 2012, Duffy and his Dallas co-stars Linda Gray and Larry Hagman reunited for a reboot of the show. In this latest version of Dallas (2012-2014), Duffy's character Ewing was married to a new wife played by Brenda Strong and had a son played by Jesse Metcalfe. His sibling rivalry with his evil brother J.R., played by Larry Hagman, also continued in this show. Tragically, Larry Hagman died just a few months after the new show hit the airwaves, after suffering from cancer. Duffy played a surreal double of Bobby Ewing in the experimental documentary Hotel Dallas, directed by artist duo Ungur & Huang. It premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival 2016. Patrick Duffy married Carlyn Rosser in 1974 in a Buddhist ceremony. Carlyn was ten years older than him. Together, the couple had two children, Padraic and Conor. Rosser introduced him to Buddhism, and he has practised it for the past three decades. She died on 23 January 2017. In 2016, Patrick Duffy published his first Science Fiction novel, 'Man from Atlantis' (2016). Duffy continued acting and was seen in the Dutch feature April, May en June / April, May and June (Will Koopman, 2019) starring Lina de Mol, the television film The Christmas Promise (Fred Gerber, 2021) and the TV series The Family Business (2024). His most recent film is the excellent independent action film Hollywood Grit (Ryan Curtis, 2025), in which his current partner, Linda Purl, co-stars. Duffy has two sons, actor-writer Padraic Duffy (1974) and actor Conor Duffy (1980). IMDb quotes Duffy: "I'm one of the lucky actors in television. I don't make a lot of big waves, but there's constant activity, and that's the way I prefer to live my life."

Toothpaste and orange juice, pools and cell phones, first dates and unfortunate run-ins with skunks, and artists and bodybuilders: these are a few things you wouldn’t really think go together, but the art of Patrick Brown disproves at least one of those pairs. Why spend your time in the gym when you could be like Patrick Brown and simply draw yourself a Bow-Flex body? We at Creative Tempest love Patrick Brown’s mastery in rendering the human form, and how, even when exaggerating it, he maintains a naturalness to it. Find out more at www.creativetempest.com
