This is a photo I took of a small icon we keep in our home. I've posted 4 different versions. Depending on your computer monitor, they appear a little differently. My later versions of this were taken in 2012 (elsewhere in my photo stream) with a different camera (more pixels). Saint Patrick is a beloved figure and example of holiness. To the Irish, he is our means to hearing the Gospel, and without his efforts, the history of the Irish people would have progressed quite differently. And that of Europe as well.
St. Patrick was carried off in his youth from Britain to Ireland where he lived as a slave tending pigs. There his spiritual life grew as he spent his days in prayer, growing closer to God. After six years he escaped and was able to return to his family. But in a dream one night, he had a vision of a man named Victorious who came from Ireland and gave him a bundle of letters. These letters were the voices of the Irish people, calling to Patrick to return to them. He was convinced that this was a call to establish the Church in Ireland, which at that time was not a Christian country.
But before he returned, he studied. For the next 21 years he prepared himself at monasteries in France.
In 432, he returned to Ireland as a bishop. He gained protection from the rulers first by confronting the Druids, the pagan priests. Then he travelled throughout the island, making thousands of converts.
He accomplished his mission while facing mortal dangers every day. One legend has it that a powerful king was prepared to ambush Patrick and those with him. St. Patrick and those who were with him became miraculously invisible, and the king only saw deer passing by. Yet the king heard voices chanting these famous words of St. Patrick, (often called the Deer Cry):
"Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in my lying down, Christ in my sitting, Christ in my arising,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me."
Saint Patrick is often pictured driving the snakes out of Ireland. In truth, Ireland has no snakes, but there is no report of him actually driving them out. The snakes pictured with him represent the darkness and sin that were driven away when he brought the gospel to the Irish people.
Saint Patrick loved the Irish, and the Irish, in turn, love him. He brought to them the Light of Christ and the truth of their salvation through Jesus.
Our home has always had a small statue of St. Patrick, which holds a place of honor.

"Dirty Dancing" ... Swayze has been getting treatments at Stanford for months. He is a pilot and flies in with his wife often.
Arbroath-born Patrick Allan-Fraser (1813 - 1890), whose story would take more space to tell than is available here. He and his wife, Elizabeth Fraser, rebuilt and restyled Hospitalfield House, turning it into an art college. On Elizabeth's death in 1873 he began to build The Mortuary Chapel in the Western Cemetery. It is a Category A listed building.

I had a nice conversation with him on Saturday morning. Carnegie Mellon is the only school in the country where you can get a Major in bagpiping, and Patrick is the first graduate of that program, in 1996. He currently is the Director of Bagpiping at Edinboro.

Built in 1911 by Lester Patrick, on Thomas Hooper's design, it was a state-of-the-art facility with Canada's first artificial ice surface. It stood at the corner of Cadboro Bay Road and Epworth Street in Oak Bay. The seating capacity was four thousand. The Victoria Cougars played here and in 1925 won the Stanley Cup with five future hall-of-famers on the roster. The building lasted just 18 years. It burnt to the ground in 1929, some whispering that the fire was deliberately set.

Another record heard on John Peel's show during 1985. I bought this on a trip to Newcastle that year and tried to track this top tune down. and in the Virgin Megastore they had this one last copy.
This was their only single, apparently, and it came with a plain white label with a zeroxed insert with lyrics.
A search of the interwebs revealed this only trace of the band:
Another Sunderland way band. I remember seeing these guys a few times at the Bunker/Station and possibly Riverside. They always managed to impress. This is their single release, at least I don't recall others, I was told they had a demo tape, but I never managed to track this down.
This is a good 7'', it's punk in the broader sense, but by the time of this release the band had become more sophisticated and this is reflected in the music. A band consisting of: -

He also currently sits on several private venture-backed high technology company boards in Europe, largely in the mobile communications space, including Heptagon OY (lenses for mobile phone cameras), and Inside Contactless SA (manufacturer of semiconductors for contactless smart cards and NFC for mobile applications). He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois with a concentration in economics, and an MBA from St. Louis University with a concentration in finance.

St. Patrick Cathedral is the cathedral of the Catholic Church located in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. It a parish of the Diocese of Fort Worth and the seat of its bishop. St. Patrick's church was begun in 1888 and dedicated in 1892. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Starting in 1870 Father Vincent Perrier would visit the Catholics living in Fort Worth twice a year. They met in the Carrico family home. Fort Worth’s first Catholic parish was St. Stanislaus. Its church building was a frame structure on Throckmorton Street. In 1879 Father Thomas Loughrey, who by that time had been assigned as the pastor of St. Stanislaus, started a school for boys. Classes were held in the church until 1907, when the frame structure was torn down. The present St. Patrick's church was built to the north of the old St. Stanislaus Church. The cornerstone was laid in 1888 and the church was dedicated in 1892. James J. Kane designed it in the Gothic Revival style. St. Patrick's was elevated to a co-cathedral in 1953 when Pope Pius XII changed the name of the Diocese of Dallas to the Diocese of Dallas-Fort Worth. Pope Paul VI divided the diocese and created the Diocese of Fort Worth on August 22, 1969. St. Patrick's was retained as the cathedral for the new diocese. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Patricks is an Irish style pub, with heavy wooden furniture and brown wooden panels or red brick stone on the walls. They serve a number of beers on draft (but mostly industrial lager), have a large bottle menu (though a number of the items were sold out) and serve a decent pub grub (burger, beef, sandwich).
