On the eve of September 30, 2021, a westbound BNSF coal train off the Montana Rail Link, passes the depot at Sandpoint, Idaho. BNSF is double tracking through here to the MRL connection at Sandpoint Junction (in the background) in conjunction with the second bridge being built at the Lake Pend Oreille crossing. It appears that the right-of-way will have to widened here, perhaps using a retaining wall to provide enough clearance between the depot and the buildings and parking lots on the right. Regardless, this scene will change a bit in the next few years.

Aucazein is a village in the Ariège department of south-western France. The plan was to string a few existing long distance trails together and hike along the Pyrenean foothills from the Mediterranian to the Atlantic. I love the old world charm of French villages where finding a bakery can be one of the day's highlights. Most long distance trails in Europe offer more of a cultural than a wilderness experience. This was day 23 of our hike and we were following the GR 78 (Voie du Piémont) which is part of the Way of St. James pilgrimage trail network. Eventually all these trails are leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camino_de_Santiago#/media/File:Ways...

This image was really overexposed but somehow it reminded me of a watercolour painting so here it is!

Surprisingly busy road near Tarlee, a windmill under the Milky Way!

This amazing mass of purple Joe Pye weed is in a wet prairie that my road bisects. This one is from yesterday, the rest in the set are from the day before.

A short side trail gave me this nice spot to cool off and enjoy the view. Tunnel Creek Trail, Olympic National Forest.

One of the most interesting days we had on our recent Lake district trip was the drive and see where it takes us mornings. After visiting the Langdales and Blea Tarn we decided to just go where the light took us.

We ended up driving up the narrow road through the Wrynose pass pictured here, but that challenging road was just a taster for the following pass, namely the Hardknott pass, a road that is an heartstopper to drive with a 30% ascent, hairpin bends at every blink of an eye and drops that make you draw breath involuntarily....both up and down.

I'm not normally a photographer of weather, but couldn't help snapping a few shots of this rain clioud passing me by at Tenby Point.

We admire the beautiful views, waves, sunsets, and often we don't see the beauty of the little things... for example a surface of the breakwater wood...

A shot taken in 2017 on Sloane square station of a passing tube train

The fifth and final stop on my chase of Reading and Northern's northbound NRFF was the only one where I got 'Coud F---ed' so an 80% success rate isn't too bad. Regardless I do kind of like the shots I got here so figured I'd edit up and file and post a few.

This Independence Day edition of 'America's Freight Train' with a healthy sized train behind five green and yellow EMDs led by RBMN 3053 (an SD40-2 blt. Apr. 1980 as MP 3321) is seen curling by Penobscot Yard that was partially rebuilt and reopened by RBMN after they took over the Lehigh Line from Conrail in 1996.

They are wheeling around the curve at speed on Main 1 while stored units sit in a deadline on track 4 in the yard. This is about MP LS 155.6 on modern day RBMN's Lehigh Division mainline and the tracks are on flat ground here, with the grade having leveled off at Crestwood, three miles behind them. They have climbed 800 ft in the 28 or so miles from Jim Thorpe with the grade reaching 1.17% at its steepest, and just ahead they will pass through the rock cut at Solomons Gap and begin the 23 mile or so descent from 1500 ft elevation down to about 650 ft at Pittston Yard alongside the Susquehanna River having crossed over the mountains from the Delaware River watershed.

Autumn is slowly passing away and losing it's grip as Winter breaths on us with her cold breath, and brings forth a slight feeling of sadness and a touch of melancholy is in the air.

A walk to the end will pass time? Only way to find out is to venture out into the calm. This pier on Lake Washington entertains many that insist on passing time with a view.
