For the daily challenge on fashion, I found this woman who, for the moment anyway, had no interest in Cherry Wine Fashions, downtown, Courtenay (British Columbia).

It was time...

A last walk in her favorite park with her sister Balee and Crunchy and her Mom at her side. But the weakness and the burdens of the ever growing tumors made breathing now even a labor.

It is the duty of every pet owner to know when their beloved companions, who have looked to us their entire life for care and nurturing, to also know when life is not longer fun. And Kaya let her know exactly that... So before the suffering came, Crunchy made the painful choice that it was time to let her go.

So back at the SMASHPAD, surrounded by friends and family, we said our good-byes. The vet, Anne came to the house to administer the final shots and Crunchy was able to feel her final breath.

Farewell, Kaya....you are dearly missed...

I wanted to try one of those shots where you wait for a person to pass by and then take the picture when they are in your field of view. This didn't turn out quite the way I wanted because he looks more angry that I'm taking his photo. But, I do like his expression.

Chinatown, New York City

Passing through a flaming tennis racket.

As two ships passing in the night,

So quietly neath the stars soft light;

Our paths cross but now and then.

Reaching out, seeking one another again.

We say hello and then we part,

Knowing we've shared a piece of our heart.

Some friendships stay and sadly some go.

My prayers remain steady hoping ours will grow.

I ache when you're hurting,

I cry when you're sad.

Wanting to comfort and hold you so bad.

Know that I'm waiting here, with open arms,

To share all your troubles and relish your charms.

I have nothing to offer but the soul of a friend,

Strong shoulders to lean on that don't easily bend.

I offer these freely with no strings attached,

For in caring and sharing you'll not meet my match.

So on some long and lonely night

When nothing seems to go just right

Close your eyes and think of me,

Under the moon's glow is where I'll be.

People below passing by the tower

Whenever I hear the sound of flying swans, I cannot resist picking up my camera and following the birds. So here are a couple of three swans passing overhead at RSPB Greylake in the early morning.

This timber is heaped near the cremation ghat. The larger pieces are broken using steel wedges hammered in, strongly bringing crucifixion to mind. Tourists inch up gawking. It's very macabre compared to the way we in the west are so private about death; but strangely the effect has been, on me, a positive one. It simply showed me the obvious - a body isn't a person. It's just something we use for a while, something we live with. It's not us.

A "charity" collection leaflet that is doing the rounds in London. But is it what it says it is? I don't think so.

For a start there is no charity registration number. There is a company registration number (6296698) and a company name (W&W Help Ltd). The Companies House web site shows that W&W Help Ltd, CRN 6296698, 14 BARGE HOUSE ROAD, NORTH WOOLWICH, LONDON, E16 2NH was incorporated on 28 June 2007 and dissolved 24 March 2009 and never submitted any accounts. There is no insolvency information which suggests that the Registrar of Companies struck it off for not trading. This flyer was stuffed through a letter box more than a year after the company was dissolved! Hmm...

Now look at the emotional blackmail used in the advert itself. It uses a heart shaped logo which is very similar to that of the British Heart Foundation, a genuine and very worthy charity. In fact, to my eye it looks as if the logo on this flyer has actually been cropped from that of the British Heart Foundation.

Then it uses the name "British Charity Foundation", close enough to that of the genuine charity perhaps to fool the unwary at first glance.

Thirdly it goes on about the numbers of people dying from heart & circulatory disease within a year of a myocardial infarction. I don't know whether the figures are correct but I suspect they are. Whether they are or not, with the use of a "charity" name and logo which are both similar to that of the British Heart Foundation this would appear to be a ruse to get people to give to a worthy cause which is nothing of the sort.

This seems to be, at the very least, breach of copyright and passing off.

These sorts of flyers have, in the past, been traced back to profit making scams so the moral of the story is:

* Don't give to "charities" who leaflet at your door. Even if they are genuine ones, criminals have been known to steal the goods you are leaving out at your door and, in some cases, to threaten the genuine charities' collectors with physical violence for intruding on their "patch".

* If you want to give to a heart disease charity, donate to the British Heart Foundation.

* If you want to give goods to a charity, take them to a charity shop. Even if your own charity of choice doesn't have a shop local to you, some other charity will have and, especially if it is a local charity, they will need your donation much more than a struck off limited company!

This is not my dress but just have it here for a visit. I'm a little intimidated by it. It's perfect.

I seldom get a lot of time to set up a photo. I had just met this ship and there was no traffic behind her so I told the helmsman "steady", stuck my camera out the door and shot this. More credit to the camera than to me.
