Cape Hatteras Light is a lighthouse located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks in the town of Buxton, North Carolina and is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Built in 1870 its 210 foot height makes it the tallest brick lighthouse structure in the United States and 29th in the world. Since its base is almost at sea level, it is only the 15th highest light in the United States, the first 14 being built on higher ground. It was moved to its present location in 1999. We were there during the Government Shutdown and people were walking or driving around the baracades.

Ruperra Castle was occupied by the army during the Second World War, and subsequently burned down. It remains to this day a ruined shell. Currently for sale at Ā£1.5 million, but will probably cost a further Ā£10 million to put right… so if anyone want their own stately home 5 miles north of Cardiff.
