This closeup of the eye shows a mature cataract. The cortex has liquified and turned white, while the dense yellow nucleus has fallen to the bottom of the bag.
This is a photograph of a NS (nucleur sclerotic) cataract. When a narrow beam of light is shot into the eye, the central brown-yellow color of the cataractous lens can be seen.

What IS the difference between an Optometrist and an Optician?
Optician vs. Optometrist vs. Ophthalmologist
A patient that requires contact lenses or glasses will seek the help of an optician. An optician fills lens prescriptions for contact lenses and glasses, written by the optometrist or ophthalmologist.
So an Optician is NOT a doctor, an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist is
Opticians are not responsible, nor trained, for eye examinations or treatment solutions for eye disorders. They help you pick our your frames and adjust them to fit comfortably.
Optometrists are doctors who perform annual examinations to treat any vision problems and detect signs of disease and abnormal conditions. Examinations may also include testing for glaucoma, color perception, depth, and the ability to focus and coordinate the eyes. Optometrists must be licensed, have a Doctor of Optometry degree, and pass a state board examination.

This is a closeup of an eye that has had a trabeculectomy surgery. These glaucoma surgeries are helpful to control eye pressure, but sometimes the wound can leak fluid. This eye is "seidel positive" because it is leaking fluid which you see as a green ooze under the cobolt blue light.
Back in March, there was a spot in Carolyn's vision that looked like a camera flash, but it wouldn't go away, so she went to the optometrist. This wasn't the first time Carolyn had that camera flash spot that wouldn't fade. The first time was in 2006 during the time she was searching for answers to get her Silent Sinus Syndrome diagnosed. Carolyn has a hole in her retina that her optometrist has been keeping an eye (haha) on since then. The optometrist took a new picture and compared it to last year's, and the spot had changed, so she sent Carolyn to a retina specialist. The retina specialist took a closer look and saw that it was inflamed, but it was calming down. At the follow up a month later, it was back to its baseline. They don't know what caused it to flare up, so it's back to monitoring it.
