The circular window of the almost-complete Patient Care Center is shaping up to be the literal eye on the University of Missouri–St. Louis campus. It’s an appropriate architectural statement, considering the center will house the College of Optometry’s clinic.

On Friday, July 22, VA Secretary Denis McDonough participated in a naming and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the state-of-the-art Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, part of the VA Central Alabama Health Care System.
McDonough and Congressman Sanford Bishop addressed media following the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Rep. Bishop and Rep. Drew Ferguson were instrumental in helping bring the clinic to fruition. The Secretary then met with VA staff and toured the new Clinic.
Later in the day, McDonough visited Ft. Benning where he met with transitioning military personnel participating in the Soldier for Life — Transition Assistance Program. Secretary McDonough encouraged each of them to file for the VA benefits they have earned and deserve.

New Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic ready to serve Veterans in July

Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is preparing to celebrate the opening of the new Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic.
This state-of-the-art facility is located at 6910 River Road, Columbus, Georgia, replacing the Community Based Outpatient Clinic on 13th Avenue in Columbus. The Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic will provide the most significant number of enrolled Veterans with the closest geographic access to services.
We want to make sure this transition is as smooth as possible for you. If you have a scheduled appointment on or after July 11, 2022, please visit us at the Poydasheff clinic.
The Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic was named after the late Col. (ret) Robert S. Poydasheff, Army Veteran and former mayor of Columbus.

Under the watchful eye of the College of Optometry‘s Carl Bassi, four UMSL students try out new “blue-blocker” eyewear inside the UMSL Patient Care Center on South Campus. Bassi, an associate professor and director of research, recently completed a study for JINS, a Japanese eyewear company, that looks at the effects of the lenses on eye comfort after working at a computer.

Linda Du, an assistant clinical professor at the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Optometry, administered an eye-opening exam in the vision therapy room at the Patient Care Center on South Campus. The room was made possible through a generous gift from the Marco Family Foundation and Marco Ophthalmic, Inc. The slow-moving Marsden ball helps patients improve their eye tracking skills by pointing to letters on the ball.
