Sucks being blind but oh how I love my blur!

Today I went to the eye doctor for my yearly eye exam. Of course I had to get my eyes dilated and it sucked! I hate the way it makes me feel like I am a drunk with blurred vision. On the bright side, I learned something new about my left eye. For those of you that know me well enough, know that I have a "lazy" left eye; this means that the muscles in my eye are slightly off in a sense that they cause my eye to sit at an angle. I have had it my whole life (have been wearing glasses since the age of three).

Well, because I live in a different state and have military insurance and blah, blah, blah, I had to go and see a new Optometrist. The staff at Lord Eye Center were wonderful and provided me with a wonderful eye experience. haha. The doctor looked at my optic nerves and told me something that I didn't know! I have an under developed optic nerve in my left eye, thus making it difficult for me to see out of it! All this time we thought I couldn't read properly from it because of the way it sits in my head (yes, that still plays a part), but had no idea it was because of my optic nerve. It my parent's knew about this, I don't recall them telling me! She said that one half of the nerve was round and normal where as the other half was flat and the blood vessels were small. Then she looks in my right eye and says that it is perfectly normal. Hmm, thanks mom for the underdeveloped optic nerve! Unfortunately there isn't a way to correct it because it just isn't developed; I was born this way. She also warned me to be aware that if I have children, they too could have the same condition.

It sounds unfortunate, but I actually found it to be really interesting as to why I could never read/function properly with my left eye. :D

Anyways, $350 later I have an order in for awesome new glasses! Yay! Thanks Tricare for sucking butt when it comes to military spouse coverage! It was a fun experience trying to find the perfect frame; Brian was extremely helpful! <3 Also, turns out our sales guy was a Marine as well! OOHRAH! haha. Ahh, still only sounds cool when a Marine says it.

p.s. I had to use my little point and shoot because I just couldn't hold the D90 up long enough to get the shot I wanted. lol And it is too heavy for the little tripod I have.

We went into an unusual optometry store named Gentle Monster at Valley Fair this evening and were immediately taken aback by the cyberpunk setting within the store. In the back of the store, I found this woman figure that looked like a cyborg. I took a few shots of it with my phone and then proceeded to check out those fancy eye glasses. I have never seen an optometry store like this before. It was an eye-opening for us.

Seb had a day off work. As it was sunny, he and his girlfriend had come to Glastonbury for the day. When I met them, they had individual ice cream tubs. They ate small spoonfuls while we chatted.

Seb works in optometry and has done for the last 6 years. It was at work that he met Georgina. She was a customer. I asked how long they had known each other. They looked at each other. Georgina said a year and nine months. Seb said .."I would have said about 2 years".

Seb explained the things that he does in his job and which things are only done by the optician. He can work the machines, help customers with frames and orders for glasses but only the optician can look into the customers eyes and ask "which is better 1 or 2?"

Georgina told me that Seb was a musician. I asked Seb about it. He had been in a Prog Metal band. He said "think prog rock... like Genesis but more metal". Seb had been lead guitarist. Georgina had been invited to a gig, not long after meeting Seb. She had not gone because of the genre. Seb had difficulty committing the time required to the group because of his full time job. It was hard to tour with the band when they had gigs at short notice because he was not able to get time off work so quickly. Now Seb plays guitar for his own pleasure.

Georgina is in her final year at Uni. She also works in a cinema ticket office. I asked if she enjoys going to the cinema. She that working there has put her off. There is too much sex. On a typical week a dozen condoms are left. There are particular screens that Georgina would avoid.

I might have asked Georgina to be in my project too, as she would have made a good addition but they talked about having to make a move. We exchanged goodbyes and words of thanks. After I left them, I went back and offered to photograph them together but they declined, telling me that they have plenty of photos together.

Thank you Seb for being part of my project. It was good to meet you and Georgina today.

The first time I went to the optometry in America. I was curious. I never went to the official optometry before in US or in China. The instrument in the photo is used to examine eyes. There is a small and clean mirror with wooden frame. Thus, I took a selfie with a "V" gesture.

"Do you see clearer with lens number one or lens number two," is an eye examination. This machine can duplicate almost every known prescription with the turning of a few dials. The numbers on the dials are then read, transferred to paper and you have your new prescription. [Ophthalmology.] [Scene.] Optometry.
