Back in March, there was a spot in Carolyn's vision that looked like a camera flash, but it wouldn't go away, so she went to the optometrist. This wasn't the first time Carolyn had that camera flash spot that wouldn't fade. The first time was in 2006 during the time she was searching for answers to get her Silent Sinus Syndrome diagnosed. Carolyn has a hole in her retina that her optometrist has been keeping an eye (haha) on since then. The optometrist took a new picture and compared it to last year's, and the spot had changed, so she sent Carolyn to a retina specialist. The retina specialist took a closer look and saw that it was inflamed, but it was calming down. At the follow up a month later, it was back to its baseline. They don't know what caused it to flare up, so it's back to monitoring it.

Ever since Tesco sold their in store optician chain to Vision Express they've been mailbombing me with reminders that it's been more than a year since my last sight test.
I know full well that's it's been more than a year, and the optometrist recommended the next test in 2 years! I reckon it's probably close to two years now, and they were offering a test for free, so I decided to take them up on it.
It seems I'm some kind of freak of nature, as my eyesight is improving as I'm getting older! My distance prescription which was admittedly very low is now almost non existent, with the optometrist suggesting I bin the glasses I have as they're not helping me.
For near field he wouldn't believe me when I said I could read his little card better without lenses than with and made me read out the text. He did declare me a lucky chap!
In even better news, eye health looks spot on, and unusually he could have a well informed conversation with me about Horner's syndrome, which was the indicative symptom of my carotid artery dissection in 2011.
Ironically as my vision is clean and sharp this picture is fuzzy! It was taken in a pretty dark room though. The machine on the right is the glaucoma tester (you'll feel a little blast of air), the middle one is the autorefractor (look at the balloon for me) and the one just in shot on the left is the retinal camera (blinded by the sodding light!).

The Chrysler Building:
Completion Date: 1930
Cost: $20 million
Height: 1,046 feet
Stories: 77
Materials: Steel
Facing Materials: Brick
Engineer(s): Ralph Squire & Sons
In the summer of 1929, a "race for the sky" broke out on the island of Manhattan. Automobile tycoon Walter Chrysler battled Wall Street powerhouse Bank of Manhattan Trust Company for the title of world's tallest building in what many historians consider to be the most intense race in skyscraper history. In the spring of 1930, just when it appeared that the bank might capture the coveted title, a small crew jacked a needle-thin spire hidden in Chrysler's building through the top of the crown to claim the title of world's tallest at 1,046 feet.
Not only was the Chrysler Building the world's tallest structure, it was also one of the most decorated office buildings in the world. Chrysler wanted "a bold structure, declaring the glories of the modern age" -- and he got it. He decorated his skyscraper with hubcaps, mudguards, and hood ornaments, just like his cars, hoping that such a distinctive building would make his car company a household name. Today, the Chrysler Building is recognized as New York City's greatest display of Art Deco, a decorative style characterized by sharp angular or zigzag surface forms and ornaments.
Only four months after the completion of the Chrysler Building, the world's tallest championship title would be claimed by a new structure, the Empire State Building.
This photo shows an eye that has had a successful trabeculectomy surgery for glaucoma. You are looking at the white part of the eye above the cornea. The vertical white line is a beam of light, and underneath you can see a triangular flap of tissue. This is where the excess aqeous from inside the eye drains under the conjunctiva.

"One, a robot may not injure a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;
Two, a robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law; Three, a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws."
-- Isaac Asimov
This is just one of the photos I submitted to my school's Assistant Head of Optometry for our Optometry Centre. And I realised after spending quite some time in the centre, there were so many equipment that looked like robots inside it! And there were even those that had Nikon cameras attached to them! More robots down below! :)
