Accomplished pianist Tom Sullivan basks in applause May 10 following a performance in the J.C. Penney Building/Conference Center at UMSL. Sullivan, who has been blind since shortly after birth, performed for students, faculty and staff from the College of Optometry and discussed how he overcame obstacles en route to becoming an award-winning actor, singer, author and producer. He also talked about InfantSEE, a national public health program that provides no-cost comprehensive vision assessments for infants 6 to 12 months of age. Sullivan made a public presentation called "Envisioning Change" at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center, and he capped off his visit to UMSL on May 12 when he spoke at the College of Optometry commencement, where he received an honorary degree from the university. Here is a large chalazion ... this is traditionally described as a non-infectious lipid granulomatous infection. In this case, however, the lesion is still draining, which can be seen as the white pus coming out centrally with finger pressure.
This photo shows a hyphema, blood in the anterior chamber. This has caused very high pressure that is being relieved using this scalpel to create an alternate drainage pathway.

My baby graduated from Indiana University this past week end. With his degree in Optometry. I am so proud of him!
He will be moving back to Indiana in a few weeks and starting his Optometry career back here (home). He will begin his new job on June 9, 2008, In Cincinnati, Ohio.
His girlfriend also completed her (LPN) nursing degree this week also. She will stay at school and continue her degree to be an RN.
This week my niece, Paula Ann also completed her RN (nursing degree) and she will graduate in December.
Congratulations Drew, Steph and Paula! I am so proud of all 3 of you!

Some of you know the retail chain supporting DIY clothing-makers across Canada. Others may know of the optometrists based in a handful of locations across Ottawa.
The two were neighbours in Orléans for several years, but that began to end in 2015 when the old Brault Garage building that used to house Fabricland in Orléans was torn down in favour of the building seen here. The building that Nuvo Optometry may be more fortunate, given that the new owners are a law firm. That seems apropos, given that for a couple of decades before becoming Nuvo's Orléans storefront, the house served as an informal place of work for the then-police village's justice of the peace...
