Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for your visit.
The groves of olive trees that I see in Spain, especially in Andalusia, are landscapes of great beauty. And each tree is unique in shape, thus having its own special attraction. Olives are an important product in the Spanish economy. They are, in my opinion, superior to the olives grown in Italy. And now more Spanish olive oil is sold in the United States than Italian olive oil, formerly the favorite. But for me what is so alluring is the beauty of the trees, in bloom, with or without olives on them. They are my major symbol of Spain.
LARGE IS BEST.

Legend has it that the godess Athena threw her spear into the ground of Akropolis and out sprang the first olive tree or even the tree of life in Greek mythos. Todays tree is a later reminder and behind it the Erechteion/Erechtheum built 421 - 401 BC once containing several shrines, and later to become a Christian church. Is it possible anywhere to come closer to absolute mythos than here?
Europe, Aegean, Greece, Lesvos, Agia Paraskevi, Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production, Storerooms (Bates), Key-board, (slightly cut from L & R)
Shown here is a vital element of the interior of the room of the gatekeeper of the storerooms. It’s the board where the keys to the bates (the storing compartments inside the storeroom buildings) were hung. Every farmer or growing cooperation had its own one. In these storage spaces, the olives were kept before processing
The history of the Olive press is here and here.
This is number 53 of the Lesbos album and 3 of Museum of Industrial olive oil production (Lesvos) one - which is part of the Factory, formerly collection.
