In a place with a second life,

There was an Old Highway

The road has two lanes.

However, cars do not come and go.

Appears during Halloween🎃

The old highway can never be turned back 🚫

It is the road that leads to the realm of death.

The Beautiful Church, a wonderful Byzantine church dedicated to the Saints Theodoroi, is an aisleless barrel-vaulted church made of large dressed square blocks of poros stones of uniform size. The podium around the building, the dressed masonry, and the simple but unusual two-light window in the sanctuary, show that the church was built in the late twelfth century, just before the Frankish conquest.

The inscription carved in a poros block in the west façade refers to the fact that a renovation of the church took place in 1289. The inscription refers to the Byzantine emperor Andronikos 1 even though at this time the island was under Latin rule. The interior of the church is lavishly decorated with wall paintings. It is worth noting that here in the Nativity above the vault is one of the very few depictions of the Panaghia Galaktotrophousa (the Virgin Breastfeeding) in Byzantine art, this is set in a cave, the edges of which incorporate birds eyes.

Taken from the taxi window - it was so wet that morning from the storm the night before that the trail we were supposed to ride had been washed out!

Only about two kilometres behind our place on the Italian Riviera, there is an enchanting villa in a beautiful park. In this villa, a chef runs a restaurant and serves wonderful specialities of Ligurian cuisine. The tables are under freshly cut olive trees, so that the loose branches leave a good view of the evening sky,

Beautiful vista of typical Cretan fields with sunset colors

This is the type of landscape I grew up gazing at; a view that changes very little if at all through the seasons with springtime wildflowers blooming and withering all too fast that if you miss them one day, they'll be dry and dying the next. It's a golden-brown and bronze vista for the most part with patches of very dark green and a bluish gray backdrop where the sea meets the sky! My favourite spot to gaze out is from that very place where I took this shot, up the hill and overlooking the ships in the distance and it's exactly the same in May as it was back in September...

P.S. I suppose I should have mentioned it earlier to avoid causing confusion... I am not fortunate enough to live in a place with such beautiful sceneries and rural beauty. I was born and raised in the big city concrete jungle and still live in the same neighbourhood as I always have. But this is a place we tend to visit as often as possible and, unlike other people, I guess I'm lucky in that respect ;)))

That was my first real contact with Tuscany. The first time I got off the freeway, got out and took in the scenery for a while.

I wasn't where I wanted to be (my sat nav must have fooled me). With a difference of 130 km I wasn't even close. I would then be able to cover this distance later and only arrive in the dark.

It was very hazy (there's even a fire burning in the background) and the lighting was terrible.

Nevertheless, I had to take a picture because I was still overwhelmed. And my first thought when I saw these vineyards and the olive grove was: "How I would like to live here".

And even if this shot didn't turn out optimally (which I didn't expect either), you can perhaps guess what else I got to see in the course of the coming week.

The fog, the barely visible solar eclipse and the magic of autumn inspired me to this picture. A glass of Federweisser is still missing.

The slope was driving me nuts, so i straightened it up and replaced the file. The strange thing is that I didn't notice the tilt until I uploaded it to Flickr.
