A veneration of oak trees comes from pagan times, when they were of religious significance.

This is certainly different from my normal posted image but given the worldwide pandemic and being confined to home most of the time, I am experimenting some. As you see, this is a reflection on a lake. (image 3848) Please also visit: acadiamagic.com.

That's what I will remember 2018 for - lovely days out and about with my family!! Here we were walking in a wonderful old forest near Venford Reservoir. I like how the two leaning trees form some sort of gateway into the forest. Here's to more exploration and fun family time next year!

a paradise for humans and animals, if you let it be

The valleys of the Perlbach and the Fuhrtsbach were placed under nature conservation in 1976. In 1980, the spruces growing there began to be cleared and alders planted along the stream valleys. The Perlenbach-Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve is notable for its biodiversity. More than 360 different ferns and flowering plants thrive here, of which more than fifty are on the Red List. In addition to wild daffodils (daffodils), the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach valleys are also home to the only occurrence of heath vetch in the country. As far as wildlife is concerned, it should be noted that wild cats and beavers are once again found in the nature reserve.

I miss England, and I look forward to visiting again when travel is safer.

Common Kestrel / falco tinnunculus. Lincolnshire. 24/06/16.

I captured this wild female Kestrel in the process of devouring a mouse......

NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED : READ ON AND VIEW LARGE FOR DETAILS.

She first ripped off the mouse's head with ease and in one go.

In the image you can actually see the nose, open mouth, teeth and one eye of the prey item. Nature in the raw, but intriguing to observe.

I thought she would reposition the head in her beak, (rather like Kingfishers or Cormorants do with fish catches), to make it easier to swallow. This was not the case however. After holding it in her beak for a few seconds and surveying the immediate area, she swallowed it broadside on!

Quite a feat considering the size and length of the head, although there did follow some frantic gulping.

Standing before this old tree felt like facing off with a fiercely threatening guardian of the colorful hills behind it. The roots make it look like it is rising up from the desert sand, spreading its tentacles and roaring from its upper, dark center.

As the male Scarlet macaw continued to preen his feathers, high in the tree, the female has gone back into the nesting cavity to wait.

A leaf shedding tree under the setting Sun always brings a melancholic vibe to the photo...perhaps that's why so many people (and photographers) Fall-in-love?

On our trip to Japan in April we drove in the mountain region of the Gifu Prefecture. On the way to Shirakawago we stopped at the Shokawasakura Park. The Shokawa cherry trees once grew on the grounds of Shōrenji Temple and Kōrinji Temple, but they were transferred to their current location when the dam below was constructed. Both trees are estimated to be more than five hundred years old. This is the Shōrenji (照連寺) tree.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from tree RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

This old chestnut tree stands by the railwaystation in Halden - Norway

As a monster, with a billion tentacles,

it stands proudly to the sky, ready to protect

all the little inhabitants who sought refuge in its center.

A hundred withered autumnal tears;

a hundred pining springs,

without a breath for the hopes and fears

that come to you and me.

It must have stood for a hundred years,

the stoic chestnut tree
