Located inside the Jinsenji Temble grounds in old Yuasa, Wakayama, Japan, stands this marvellous, twisted pine, known locally as the Screw Tree.

The temple dates from the 800s but was rebuilt in 1663 so it's possible the tree is as old as the current temple. Nonetheless, while it's quite really hard to get a decent shot of it, the tree has certainly seen a fair number of summers.

Little Owl / athene noctua. 15/08/19.

I spent many hours with this bird yesterday, initially watching it sleep high in a tree, it's branch constantly buffeted by the wind. I have to say I was surprised how long it endured these conditions when there were so many stable, sheltered places to roost down below.

Just after midday the sun strengthened and in response, the LO flew down and perched on various cemetery monuments to continue napping and preening routines. Here it is perched on an overgrown grave using a stone flower urn to elevate it slightly from the ground. It had suddenly snapped it's eyes open in response to a sound nearby. Whatever it was failed to hold it's attention and it was soon fast asleep again.

BEST VIEWED LARGE.

I walk passed this old tree quite often and not surprisingly there isn't much life within it!!

This young red stag kindly posed for me with this wonderful tree in Richmond Park. Thankfully, he wasn't in rutting mood, in fact he was quite friendly.

I'm thrilled that this photo made it into Flickr's Explore gallery on 28/10/2015 as photo 314.

Scenes like this fasinate me. They are today when I take the shot but they are yesterday when the rains came and were regular. The River Red Gums are trees that tended to germinate during periods of flood.

Estos hayedos de altura, todavía tardarán un par de semanas en echar las hojas, esto que en principio siempre es bonito, es una pesadilla a la hora de tomar fotos sobre todo los días de sol. El contraste entre las zonas de luz y sombra es inabordable.

During the morning a thick fog fall down. This was perfect for the environment I had to photograph. So I went to the Yew forest, a virgin forest in the middle of Sicily, in the Nebrodi Park.

The forest gets its name from the large presence of yew trees present in it. In addition it's possible to admire a wide variety of trees, including a myriad of ancient trees.

The fog that wrapped the place gave a mystical atmosphere, almost ghostly to the old trees which I have photographed.

One of the many beautiful old trees to be found in Tollymore Forest Park, Co. Down, Ireland. This one in particular is one of my favourites as it offers a stark contrast with the younger trees surrounding it.

It's nice to see these tall trees in the neighborhood, but they are a pain when you have to have them cut down.

A snap from last Sunday, on our three reservoirs walk in eastern Dartmoor. I loved those old beech trees lining that path. We were looking out for mushrooms to take pictures of (I wouldn't dare to pick them) but there were less this year compared to the previous. Maybe too early in autumn.

Autumn is the eternal corrective. It is ripeness and color and a time of maturity;
