The only way to get a shot of these little speed demons as they chase lake insects.

Such a wonderful encounter with a group of horses during a hike in the Heather fields of the Velue, This lookthrough presented itself with the one horse perfectly standing still. Very happy with the result.

Many thanks for all comments and favs, highly appreciated.

The hall of plane trees (“Platanensaal”) of Herrenchiemsee is located in front of the old castle. The oldest plane trees here are already 150 years old. They grow in the shape of a canopy and therefore have to be pruned every winter. Regular pruning is intended to help prevent them from breaking apart at some point. The gardeners cut back the annual shoots. This creates the whimsical crown shape and in summer the trees provide loose shade.

In the Vizela Thermal Park, the sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) stands out, a species originating from the Sierra Nevada, California, which was introduced in Portugal in the 19th century, in a period marked by the appreciation of exotic botanical species. These trees can exceed 80 meters in height and live more than three thousand years, being appreciated for their robustness and longevity. The sequoia contrasts with the park's riparian vegetation, while contributing to the local botanical diversity and providing shade and landscape interest along the lake. In addition to this, the redwood (Sequoia sempervirens), also present in the space, is equally valued for its rapid growth and longevity, reflecting the botanical exchange between continents and the aesthetic appeal that monumental trees bring to the historic gardens of northern Portugal.

ODC Our Daily Challenge: unwind

The best way for me to unwind is staying in a forest or a park

A surprise meeting with the forest inside the National Botanical Garden, Bangladesh was really inspiring. In a rainy day, it was fun to walk through vast green land. And like a wise old man, this tree was guiding us how to bring out the best of the nature.

Though I lost my phone due to my misfortune, my friend Anik Rahman Topu was there to save the day and helped me with his phone to capture this shot. I'm ever greatful to him. Thus, photography can truly strengthen the relation of friendship.

I originally shot this 10 image stitched panorama (actually 20 images because each frame was shot at two different exposures to try to balance the highlights) as a colour image. You can see it in my recent video - youtu.be/9vR4W1cGxKo

I couldn't resist trying out one of my B&W "pencil sketch' style edits and this is the result

A beautiful Ficus of the Mazones in Almoradi Spain. This lovely tree is more than a century old and displays beautiful twists and shapes when you get right underneath the dome shaped canopy.

As always feel free to comment and to get in touch with me. :)

Another photo I took in Shobrooke park just before the sun set. That's the same tree I photographed from a different angle and uploaded before. Would have been nice to have a few clouds in the sky but it is what it is.

The surgery went well, and it sure is good to be home, and looking at my favorite neighborhood tree, again!!

Happy New Year everyone!

We encountered this old overgrown stonewall in Fernworthy forest on our Boxing Day walk.

Little Owl / athene noctua. Lincolnshire. 24/06/16.

This is the female Little Owl with a very colourful prey item in her beak for her youngsters, - a Small Elephant Hawk-moth no less!!!

BEST VIEWED LARGE.

During almost three hours observation in the barn, I only saw her on this occasion. I imagine that she was tucked away with the young for much of the time, letting her mate do the bulk of the hunting.

How obliging of her then, to enter with this beautiful moth which enhanced my image making efforts. She was a star turn alright :-)

An old tree, on an overlook of Cathedral Valley, Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, seems to have been reaching to the sky, pleading for life sustaining rain.

Over the couple of years that we have lived in the Keys I have made a habit of photographing this old tree that has withstood rising water levels and countless hurricanes. The tree is nestled amongst fossilized coral at the base.
