Seen at the Bay View Overlook during a visit to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge along the Gulf Coast in Texas. (14-01-30-4272 to 73)

Chase County , Kansas.

Seine Port ~ The Main gate ( porte-cochère... dating back to the 18th century ) is open... it is raining lightly ~ This the property we stayed on my son and I for a couple of days in 2007...probably the best lodging of our entire trip ~

This is a bed and breakfast and I would definitely recommend it ... Jean , the owner is a great cook and a wonderful host ~ This is a magnificent setting near the river Seine ~

Little Owl / athene noctua. Suffolk. 04/04/23.

'A FEMALE NOT TO BE HURRIED.'

With just a bit of her head showing deeper inside the pipe, this female Little Owl had enjoyed the last of the sun's rays.

She certainly kept me waiting before deciding it was time to go hunting. Although her mate called to encourage her to join him, she was not to be hurried!

Eventually she started to inch her way towards the edge of the pipe - and I really do mean inch! Very slowly, painfully slowly, more of her body became visible, until she stood centrally in the opening (see my previous image) She peered out for a few minutes, then adopted this posture, listening to the male call again. The call worked and in the blink of an eye, she launched herself in his direction.

'ENJOYING THE VERY LAST OF THE SUN.'

Well concealed and at a safe distance away, it was a treat to observe this beautiful female Little Owl.

As the sun set, she had slowly inched herself to the front of the hole. Looking very relaxed, she enjoyed the last rays of sun before the wooden building was cast in shadow. Suddenly her mate started to call from nearby and she immediately peered in his direction. Not too long afterwards, she launched herself into the air and flew with rapid wing beats, to join him.

This shot was taken on a crisp fall morning just before sunrise in the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge in West Virginia. The 30-45 minute hike in near darkness to this field of big, old, gnarly trees amongst beaver ponds was well worth it. This blue glow started to envelope the area as the sun rose, and along with the ever-present thick fog, gave the scene a very surreal look. It was definitely one of the coolest experiences I've had since picking up the camera.

Golden Brown

The Stranglers

Golden brown, texture like sun

Lays me down, with my mind she runs

Throughout the night, no need to fight

Never a frown with golden brown

Every time, just like the last

On her ship tied to the mast

To distant lands takes both my hands

Never a frown with golden brown

Golden brown, finer temptress

Through the ages she's heading west

From far away, stays for a day

Never a frown with golden brown

Another tree shot, from our recent trip to outback NSW. I took this one hand held, whilst on an outback cultural tour with about 30 or so other people.

I waited and waited, and waited another bit, for the scene to become “human free” before pressing the shutter.

The tree looked like it was just chilled and relaxed, in its environment.

Hope you like “Golden Brown”

Cheers, Mike

The golden hour brought beauty and nature to full glory!

Little Owl / athene noctua. 15/08/19.

Photographed enjoying a sunny spot mid-afternoon and noticeably more awake by then!

The LO repeatedly took an interest in the ground below, responding to either movement or sound, perhaps both. Each time that happened I held my breath and hoped it would drop down to take prey. Disappointingly it never happened … though I‘m not complaining really. This gorgeous bird provided me with hours of interest and it was a real privilege to immerse myself in it’s daily routines for a while.

Even though this tree has almost spent it's life it is still alive putting on new limbs for the next year..A true survivor. The suns brilliance keeps giving it life..

An edited photograph of a landscape is the photographers way to tell for the viewer what he or she experienced at the moment of capture. - This is "The lion in the trees".

Just an old big tree here~~~ nothing else i want to say~~ hm... may be... i am doing experiment again with my photo~ hehe...

‘LOCKED ON.’

From it’s perch on an old weathered headstone, the Little Owl was completely locked on to something below it. Standing motionless it glared down for several minutes with it’s lemon yellow, unblinking eyes.

So deep was it’s concentration, I considered slowly exiting the car and crawling closer, using gravestones for cover. However, although tempting, it would have been a foolhardy, selfish move on my part if the bird had seen me. I couldn’t risk spooking this contented little hunter who had performed so well.

An elegant tree is in the process of 'changing its clothes' in response to season change. At Shaughnessy Park, Vancouver BC.

A few seniors were seen enjoying the ocean view at Crescent Beach & Park, Surrey BC, on the last day of Oct, with the company of a lone mature tree, and a garden rock marked "History" on one side. Press L to view full screen.

An old tree (would you believe). Bayside Brisbane.

The one they call, "The Tree" at Dolly Sods in West Virginia. This big, old birch might be WV's most popular tree. Or I just like it so much that I want to think that. Either way, there's no denying it's a very photogenic tree.
