Eurasian Nuthatch / sitta europaea. Brocton, Staffordshire. 10/01/16.
Sunday's sunshine was a real treat after the 'long grey' we have been experiencing for far too long.
It was great to see and photograph these birds in decent light :-)
………An old dead tree by Derwent water (Keswick) catching the light nicely. Plenty of photographic life left in it while the two pups reach maturity. If only we planted two for each one WE took out World wide - and even then it would be a slow recover rate!! Have a happy Wednesday & ‘stay safe’. Alan:-)……

'ABOUT TO GO HUNTING.'
My third visit to the Little Owl nesting site this Spring.
As previously, the female was encouraged to start hunting by a visit from her mate, though no calls from him this time.
Yet again, she took her time to reach the edge of the entrance pipe and show herself fully. In this image, she was at the point of flying and gave this piercing stare towards where I was well concealed. What a gorgeous bird she was!

The province of Nan is located in the north of Thailand and borders Laos. It is one of the lesser known provinces of Thailand, but is known for its natural beauty, rich culture and ancient history. It's a great place to visit if you're looking for adventure and relaxation in nature. Road 1256 passes through the mountains of Nan and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding nature. Almost the most beautiful road in Thailand, the view on the side of the road is very beautiful, if you go during the rainy season, the atmosphere will be very good. You can see the green along the two sides of the road on the ridge. In some parts you can see the beautiful view of rice fields over the hills. It may be overgrown on some parts of the road. There are several interesting sights and activities to enjoy along the way. It's great for bird watching, camping, and hiking, and you're unlikely to meet many other people while exploring. You can also visit the Doi Phu Kha National Park, which is known for its beautiful waterfalls, lush forests and spectacular views. Wonderfully cool weather all year round. In addition, there are also several hill tribe villages along the way, where you have the chance to experience the local culture and traditions.
The local people call this tree ต้นผึ้งยักษ์, Giant Bee Tree or Giant Tree. There are several bee nests in the tree. With a height of up to 40 meters and several hundred years old, this tree belongs to the Moraceae family. The Ficus albipila is a rainforest tree, a type of fig tree native to Thailand and Southeast Asia. Ficus albipila is commonly known as the "Elephant Ear Fig" or "White Fruited Fig." This species is characterized by its large, heart-shaped leaves, which resemble elephant ears, and its white fruits. The leaves have striking veins and the fruits turn from green to white when ripe. Ficus albipila is a strangler fig, meaning it often begins life on other trees and eventually encircles and strangles its host tree as it develops. Ficus albipila is well adapted to tropical climates. It plays an important ecological role as a food source for various animals, including birds and mammals, that feed on its fruits. The tree's dense foliage also provides habitat and shelter for wildlife. The Gaint Bee tree is located on the Wa River in Wiang Sa District, Nan Province.
Abarkooh, Yazd, Iran
March 2010
The ancient ‘Cypress of Abarkooh’ is one of the oldest known trees in the world with an estimated age of 4000 years. It is located in the town of Abarkooh, Yazd province, Iran. It was already well-known in the 13th century AD as the historian ‘Mostofi’ referred to it as a ”world famous” tree. This gigantic, well-formed tree is a listed natural heritage in Iran and attracts many visitors to the area.
I had an opportunity to photograph it from within its protected surrounds. This is a sight not many people can see.
Looking south, the other day, into Washington from 0 Avenue. The Blueberries are coming into leaf. This huge field surrounds a wood lot of trees, complete with Eagles nests.
Panoramic composed with four captures. The deformation (reduction of the original size) of the top captures is evident for the nearness of the same ones.

This old tree caught my eye in Taminick, Victoria, Australia this afternoon.
Autumn is just beginning. The cool breeze makes the leaves dance. Soon the trees will be bare, showing their branches.
I like to look at the trees. They all tell a story. I am fascinated by the form that some have acquired, shaped by time and sometimes by man. What I also appreciate is the bewitching silence of the forest. Some birds try to make themselves noticed. Who will make the most beautiful melody ?
At nightfall, a hoarse sound breaks the silence. The deer roars. A fascinating sight ...

The region of Maestrat.

We already know its characteristics: olive trees of the "Farga" variety, with enormous trunks whose perimeter is 1.30 m. of the ground ranges between 5 and 9 meters, and whose ages are between 1,000 and 2,000 years. In any case, they always constitute the oldest and most genuine monuments, still alive, that have their roots in our protohistoric past directly related to the culture of Mediterranean peoples such as the Phoenician, Greek and Roman.
