Cesky Krumlov is a small medieval town in the Czech Republic, and is a UNESCO site. We stayed in the beautiful yellow building for several nights. It was originally an old mill that has been transformed into a quaint B&B!
Recently, strong winds have destroyed this old mill, work is underway to rebuild it.

Taken in Indiana on a road trip.
Built by Squire Boone in the early 1800s, the restored mill still grinds grain just as it did two centuries ago. The 18-foot mill wheel, powered by water flowing from the caverns, turns the 1,000-pound grinding stones. Watch as the miller demonstrates how corn is ground into cornmeal and grits.
Some of the mill’s original foundation stones, into which Squire Boone carved designs and verses, are on display in the mill. One stone bears this inscription: “My God my life hath much befriended, I’ll praise Him till my days are ended.”
Boone’s Mill is listed on the Indiana State Register of Historic Sites and Structures.
Thank you all for your visit comments and faves much appreciated!
Have a nice day!
The Laura flour mill was built in 1874 for HWA Walter, after whom the
streets of North Laura were named. Flour mills were notoriously risky for
burning down. That happened in 1878. The mill was rebuilt and passed into
the ownership of GE Walter who installed new machinery in 1893. It was
reported as “only the second in the Colony” to be a complete Roller Mill.
After 1911 the mill was closed for a while before being purchased by the
Kleinig family, trading as Laura Milling Co, and reopened the following year
after extensive alterations with TA Kleinig as Manager. In 1924 a Bronze
Medal was awarded in the British Empire Exhibition for the Laura flour.
The Laura Milling Company was well known for its BEST Laura Flour that
“enjoyed the largest sales of any mill in the state for mills of a similar
capacity”. Flour and other products were supplied to Kingoonya, Broken Hill,
Darwin and Mt Isa making extensive use of rail transport and even camel
trains.
In 1960 major improvements included the installation of bulk handling
facilities. The mill finally ceased production in 1972, but continued to
process flour for specialized markets. The Laura mill was for many years the
sole supplier of special high protein flour to the missions and settlements of
Aboriginal communities of Central Australia.
The mill has been a significant part of life in Laura providing employment for
generations, often working three shifts over 24 hours.

...i was tickled to find another old Missouri grist mill still standing; I'd shot as many as i could find and thought i was through.

Once she was the queen on the working ground. Building homes, lives, families and societies. Fierce were her teeth capable of shaping even the most stubborn giants from mother nature. Even the strongest gets caught by the winds of change and her merits would soon perish into the well of forgetfulness. Now her teeth are worn, her back is sore and everybody would rather forget. When forgotten, nobody owes her for what she's done.

Ankarudden is a very scenic little harbour with connection to Landsort on Öja island.
The harbour is very well sheltered. Mooring is done along side the pier, on the west side, while keeping free the spot for the ferry and for the pilot boat. There is no fee but no service. It is however a very pleasant stop just befopre entering or quitting the Stockholm archipelago, along the fairway. Alternatively, the bay is a very good anchorage (ankarudden!) used along the centuries as shelter by crown ships and other vessels during storms.
Ankarudden is mentioned in pilot documents from the XIIIth century.
Ankarudden was originally a manor, but was burnt in 1719 during the Russian invasion. The Dutch mill was built in 1857 and remained in activity until 1925.

Elgin. Moray, Scotland - October 26th 2021 - Old Mills, Elgin.
The now-gutted mill has suffered three major fires in recent years and lost its roof in the latest disaster.
The building dates from before 1230, when Alexander II granted the milling rights to the monks at Pluscarden Abbey, and it is both the River Lossie's oldest and most recently working mill.
I was surprised to see so many flowers still looking vibrant and fresh this late in the summer at the Old Mill District in Bend today. This is a field with a mess of different wildflowers growing randomly. I think that sunflower is called the "ring of fire" variety. Visiting this colorful field was a nice diversion from the all the smoke saturating the landscape from nearby wildfires. What you don't see in this shot is the Sun, which was a dim, deep orange gumball high up in the smoky gray sky. Kind of cool looking, but depressing as well.
