I just got home from the vet.

I am covered in stress-induced shedded hair from Artie.

He is not here with me.

He didn't come home.

He passed away being cuddled and whispered lovingly to which, I suppose, is something I gave (and will continue giving) absolutely and without reservation, perhaps with some small hope that the gesture will come back to me one day.

I know I did a responsible hard thing but I'm surprised again at the ferocity of grief.

American Idol… it's all about the cheese

My old Cornish Rex spends 22.5hrs out of 24 asleep ...

I apologize for the abysmal quality. My iPod was handy; my camera was not. I didn't realize until after the fact that I was holding the iPod in portrait mode. I had to rotate the video after exporting.

Damn.

My soon to be 14 year old cat. She only has one eyebrow whisker.

Around 17 years old now but keeps himself beautifully preened and clean.

Tigr spends her time in her bed, lying on top of me and my protective rag rug, or eating. Those are her primary activities. It's a cat's life.

She's almost 19. I'm not about to argue with her. She gets whatever she wants.

I went to stay with the in-laws. Polly is their cat; she is 19 years old. She is still very active but you occasionally hear her howling, not really knowing where she is. I think it is feline dementia. My husband was telling me how he lost her as a kitten when he was about 16 or 17 when he had a party in the house when his parents were away!! Getting old sucks...

He's come back from the vet with the news he's lost several pounds since his last visit in April (when we had stabilized his diabetes treatment).

Here are pictures of Cosmo the cat taken during the holidays ending with New Year's Day, 2023. They were at home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is a good looking 16 year old cat, but last year, the vet found all sorts of old cat problems. He has cataracts, is on thyroid medicine and eating wet food - and that makes him very happy. I want to showcase him for the album for this calendar year's Project 365. What better way than to make him the picture of the day!

sadly Boudette passed away July 2011. She was 15 years old & out lived a lot of her kittens.

This cat was near the fence, but came running when I opened the door. There was plenty of dry cat food available, so she had to be thirsty. I refilled the dish, and she drank for several minutes. It's been so dry here for so long, homeless animals probably suffer more from thirst than from hunger.

This is my parent's pet Balinese cat, Radar. He's 15-years-old. He holds special meaning in my family, because his arrival back in the winter of 1993 marked the end of hard time for my family.

Every time I come home I worry it will be the last time I get to see old Radar. He's gotten really skinny and now petting him has become like petting a kitty skeleton. Throughout his life, he's been nortoriously hard to photograph, but somehow the light this morning was just right. No matter what happens, this cat has lead a great life. Even now, he doesn't seem to be in pain, he is just skinny and old!

Amber is outside, guarding the perimeter against insurgent cats.

He often brings in some dead grass. When he's rested a bit, I'll brush it out.

barely able to stay awake in the spring sunshine, this old cat came over to see what i was photographing... as it happened, it was a cat

This is Gizmo. He's my baby, despite being the oldest cat in the house. Now some might say that 10 (going on 11) is not old for a cat, and that would be true if he was a normal, healthy cat. But for a cat that suffers from FLUTD and a heart murmur, he's done good to get this far. And I'm grateful that, not only is he alive, but he's rather active and happy too.

The apps used were Camera+ and ArtistaOil. I really wanted a more classical look for him; he deserves it.

Tigr likes to sleep on this chair by the terrace door. She can lie in the sun or look out and watch the birds fly by. She was sleeping when I started photographing her, but the camera's noise woke her just a bit. After I finished, she closed her eyes and resumed her nap.

My 'old man' Moon spends a lot of time on the couch these days...but he jumps up in a hurry when the cat food can is opened !

This cat was near a sign that was across the street that said Cat Crossing... I guess he/she did just that!

My senior cat, soon to be 25 years old (this winter).

at Nearly 16 Yrs old 2007

Rather than Sole maturing, well-behaved Tessa is immaturing.

... not his usual cheerful self.

It suddenly struck me that it's ages since we had a cat picture, so here's one to remedy the deficiency.

Check out his paws and you can see the grey creeping in. This is my little 14 year old Havana Brown. He is the most wonderful cat I have ever known and his favorite place to sleep is on my pillow. His official name is Indykats Whitman Sampler but he generally just goes by Whit.

We don't often see the dear old girl outside now. She's 18, an spends most of her time in the corner of the kitchen worktop, watching proceedings, and occasionally venturing out when she want feeding or milk. Usually, the only time she gets down on the floor is when she falls off, which she tends to do when walking along the front of the sinks. Just for a change, though, we found her outside on Sunday evening last week: a warm evening, and she'd cuddled up against our back wall, which catches the afternoon sun, and always heats up.

We're enjoying my footy pajamas on a cool morning.
