Here are pictures of Cosmo the cat taken during the month of March 2023 at home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is approaching his 17th birthday in early May, but last year, the vet noticed all sorts of old cat problems. He has cataracts, is on thyroid medicine and eating wet food - and that makes him very happy. Recently, he had a sore over his right eye. We are watching it and hoping it goes away.
Although Lucy is way, way up there in age, he (yes, Lucy is a HE - long story) can still tell if you are eating bacon or peanut butter on toast from the other end of the house. He will patiently sit starring at you eating until you take pity on him and "accidentally" drop a morsel on the floor. Although he has used up more than the usual cat's 7 lives, Lucy is still a well loved member of my brother's family.
Today is a sad day. Tucker, our only cat left from the 3 we grew up with, had to be put down today, due to kidney failure. He was almost 14 I believe, or I think that's about how long we had him. He even outlived the younger cat we had, Angel, and the cat who was "mine" VanGogh. I took this picture a few months ago on one of our first days in the new house. He quickly made my bed his favorite spot (because I got the best view of the forest behind our yard). Every night when I would come home, even last night, no matter how late, he would follow me to my bedroom door, I would tell him no, he would barge his way in anyways, I would lie down, and he would snuggle right up to my side by my arm and sleep with me until morning. Even last night, though he has not been feeling well, he cuddled right up to my face, and slept in with me all night. I am glad he will no longer be in pain, but I will miss our nightly routine, as well as when I would come home after work in the afternoon and he would follow me in front of the wood stove and roll around in front of me for attention. I will miss him dearly, and I know my mom will most of all. She became very attached to him these last few years. <3 RIP goofy kitty, you will be missed. Please say hi to VanGogh for me, and Angel too. <3
Poor old Oscar had to make another trip to the vet. The other day I noticed him favoring his foot and discovered an abcess on his left paw. At 23 years old, he is on medication for his kidneys, but still pretty spunky. He loves to sit on my lap or Vic's when we are on the computer, and his paw was so inflamed he wouldn't jump onto our laps.
The vet lanced the abcess, but had to do so without putting Oscar under because of his age and kidney condition. Oscar was a pretty unhappy little cat, but Vic held him all the way home and talked to him. Oscar sacked out immediately on the couch for a nap, but he's back on my lap now and doing much better.
A sweet old lady enjoying some sun on the kitty deck. StarCat reports that she is now moving toward a box on the deck so she can stay warm but still enjoy the fresh air.
18 years and 10 months, Rosie still ventures into the courtyard occasionally but is mostly sleepy. Medicated for hyperthyroidism, and has some sore bones.
I've given that chair over to Tigr. She loves to lie on the nylon laundry bags that cover it. I sometimes use those laundry bags as a background in photos, but for Tigr, they are something on which to sleep. She also can look out through the glass terrace doors. Sometimes, she may see a passing bird fly by. Pigeons sometimes walk on the terrace, too.
I have some iridescent silver ribbons tied to the terrace railing to scare away pigeons. It used to work, but not anymore. It's something for Tigr to watch, though, so the ribbons stay.
Paul is so timid, and so very sensitive to loud noises. If I can't find him during a storm, then I know to look under this storage cabinet.
Sweet old Toto is no longer with us but lived to be about 16. When he walked up on our property he was bleeding badly but we didn’t know what caused it until more then about 10 years later when an X-ray revealed 3 pellet gun bullets embedded in his back close to his spine.
So yeah im obsessed with metal gear solid 4. Interestingly enough it makes me think back to when i was in high school, when i played the first one. and how much i've aged along with the beloved solid snake. well not as much as him, and i dont have that rockin mustache either!
so yeah heres my old cat.
new post! yay im not so lazy... (shameless self promotion add me to your rss)
One of Poezemans his nails, at age 18 he no longer actively clippes his nails and they grow this way.
Out of my lap, uncharacteristically, and in the computer hutch, getting some heat from the reading lamp.
Mum reakons Sooty is 19, so this must have been taken in 1987. An old man indeed now. Mum has looked after him well!
edit...Sooty is now 20. Its official! I saw a cat years chart recently, by its reaconing, he is in his 90's. Wonder if he'l make a centenarian?
Well, quite probably. Fries came to live with me in 1987, one of the many Americans made homeless by Reagan's voodoo economics.
Her name is Fries as in French Fries. She once lived with the neighbors who had a Golden Retriever named Cheeseburger.
For a while, she was named Frieslanderin, but the Dutch kept making jokes at her expense and she went back to being plain Fries.
Update: Fries passed away in May of 2007, in the twentieth year of her age. She is much missed.
Hobbes is an old cat. He's getting rather decrepit, and spends a lot
of time, now that the sun's out and it's warm, sprawled on my parents'
front driveway. I was down on my belly to get eye level with him here.
I think I woke him with my clambering about; he was squinting into the
sun and looking in general like he'd rather be napping.

A cold front has dropped out temps into the 50s overnight. I let the house cool down to about 68-70, which is more comfortable for me, but a bit too cool for the cats. Hence, Amber's and Paul's sudden affection for each other.
Our olde gentle giant, Sebastian. He is over 16yrs old now.
He had surgery yesterday morning and they removed three teeth while under the anesthetic. I brought him home at noon and he was abit loopy still but by last night he was wobbling around and found his favorite toy, a well loved fuzzy spider attached to a bit of string. He brought it to me and thought he should play LOL.
Today he has slept most of the day again but is eating abit of soft food and drinking..and..well ..he's doing great for an old guy. (I can breath now..I was pretty worried about him having anesthetic)
:o))
**update ..vet found oral tumor under his tongue.
Getting thinner and slower day by day. But eats and purrs and still likes to get into my lap occasionally.
Ozark is dying. I just brought him home from the vet. Poor little guy. Now it's just a case of watching and trying to keep him comfortable with saline injections and love. Nothing more to do for him.
