I always wondered what our 22 year old cat was up to as she hung out the car window at 100kms/hr. So, I took a snap to find out! (for those wondering, the car is moving and she is secured safely).
This is a full view of Vikki who lives in the Parc de Bagatelle. He is very old and not too well, but please do not fret. Vikki has had a long life and been well looked after, as are all the feral cats in the park. You only have to look at Alyosha to realise that.
All the people who look after him, and all the other Bagatelle cats, have decided not to inflict any invasive treatment on him, but to let him enjoy the last of his days, as he has always enjoyed, sitting on the park bench watching the world go by. He is fed well, he has shelter and what is more he has lots of 'friends' , like Mona my delightful Flickr friend who take care of him.
So we should not be sad when Vikki says his final goodbye. Although not a 'house' cat, he has spent his life in a safe and beautiful place with people who care about him. Salute Vikki
Happy Furry Friday everyone!
Here's to carefree lifes:-)
One of her last pictures; she developed probably a blood clot in a hind leg following a nap and was then unable to walk only about a week after this picture was taken, and her 19 years came to an end on March 7. A Maine Coon mix, her much larger orange-colored brother (who was more the size of a small Mountain lion cub and weighed as much as 23 lbs) did not make it past age 3.
This is her Yoda pose.

Next month, Blueboy will be 26 years old. Two weeks ago, he really slowed down, spent more time huddled under a heat lamp, hardly moving. I left him with my veterinarian for a few day's checkup. Blueboy's kidneys and liver are not working as they should. The vet gave me some Science Diet food especially made for cats with kidney problems.
Today, Blueboy is improved a lot! Instead of sleeping on the kitchen table, he came and jumped into my lap, surprising me.
He's lived almost half as long as I have. He's had a good safe home and lots of love. I know I'll have to give him up someday, but I'm just not ready now!
Here are pictures of Cosmo the cat taken during the holidays ending with New Year's Day, 2023. They were at home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is a good looking 16 year old cat, but last year, the vet found all sorts of old cat problems. He has cataracts, is on thyroid medicine and eating wet food - and that makes him very happy. I want to showcase him for the album for this calendar year's Project 365. What better way than to make him the picture of the day!

He is approaching his 17th birthday in early May, but last year, the vet noticed all sorts of old cat problems. He has cataracts, is on thyroid medicine and eating wet food - and that makes him very happy. Recently, he had a sore over his right eye. We are watching it and hoping it goes away.

Skibbs on the roof, I think she's forgotten how to get down! Poor old dear only has one proper tooth left.

-Old Tiger: 20y old, sleeping
-Toy: no name, no age given
-David: 1y old, happy
-- p.s.
Tiger is the oldest cat I ever met
David is one the cuties and happiest boys I ever met.
Nothing to say about the toy
Eggnog is the birman/ragdoll/siamese mix, just under 2 years old; Fraggle is the gray tabby, 5 1/2 years old, and Myriah is the mostly-black cat who is 16 1/2 years old now. She has a grey patch on her back where she recovered from surgery /radiation from treatment for cancer, earlier this year. It's very rare to find all these three together; not because they don't like each other ok, but because it's hard to make them 'pose' like this!
Update, 29th March: Sad news on dear old Ginger. As we thought last week, Ginger was on the way down, and the final decline, when it came, was very quick. He stopped eating on Thursday and took to his cardboard box in the bathroom, not even venturing out to sit on the bath mat (where we could trip over him as we got out of the shower). So we rang up and made the appointment for Friday morning, and took him down. They're none of them easy, but he was one of the harder ones to say goodbye to. He's back in the garden now, along with all the very many of his contemporaries that he outlived, around the centre apple tree.
22nd March: We've finally decided that the time has come for Ginger to take up residence in the bathroom. There are two main reasons.
The first is his own safety: after a few months of hardly going outside at all, he suddenly took to wandering last week, and we've caught him meandering a bit aimlessly, out near the road. Indoors, in either living room or kitchen, he has too many things he can fall off, and he's done that a couple of times recently, too.
Then there's the consideration of hygiene: there comes a time when even the most formerly continent of cats starts to forget where he is, and more importantly, where the litter trays are, which usually results in 'the world is my litter tray'. Not good.
So now he's tucked up in a cardboard box, by the bathroom heater, with a bowl of water one side, and a litter tray the other, and a hard, sealed floor in case of accidents.
