VA’s annual Brain Trust summit offers platform for innovations in brain health and head trauma
From a software platform for traumatic brain injury to a virtual reality device that assists Veterans with behavioral health issues, 15 competitors pitched a diversity of ideas during demo day at the Brain Trust: Pathways to InnoVAtion summit, hosted by VA on May 18 in Boston. The annual two-day event assembled more than 350 invited participants from the federal government, private industry, professional sports, medical research, caregivers and Veteran communities to collaborate and advance discussions around the prevention and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion. “We have an unbelievable opportunity to accelerate the speed of change,” said retired Army Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho, CEO of Optum Military and Veterans Group, to the 15 industry and academic innovators who had come to pitch their ideas on TBI and head trauma to a panel of judges. “Today, the impossible gets challenged.”After reviewing a series of short presentations from competitors, the judges selected three winners: The Daptly Display, a gesture and voice-controlled assistant for the home or office; Save a Warrior: A peer-to-peer, archetypal approach for healing combat trauma and moral injury; and Recovery Acceleration Program for mild TBI by King-Devick Technologies. The winners will have the potential opportunity to implement and deploy their innovations with VA. “We feel incredibly honored to be selected as a winner of the VA Innovation awards, which will further our opportunity to provide services to our Veterans,” said Steve Devick, CEO of King-Devick Technologies, who explained how his project would help Veterans impacted by TBI. “The King-Devick technologies innovations are related to the fact that eye movements and vision are responsible for approximately 55 percent of brain function. “As a result, implementing our recovery acceleration program by involving these pathways leads to faster concussions and TBI recovery when used with standard remediation. Additionally, caregivers can measure defects in eye movements, which may lead to dosage changes in chronic degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. ” During the event, VA officials announced key partnerships with several influential organizations, including: Amazon, which donated 100 Echo devices with Alexa voice service to VA’s Assistive Technology Labs to help meet the needs of Veterans; Cohen Veterans Bioscience, which is coordinating efforts with VA to integrate data across dozens of labs to facilitate breakthroughs in trauma-related disorders; Booz Allen Hamilton; Comcast; Concussion Legacy Foundation; GE; IBM; Infinite Hero Foundation; Johnson & Johnson; Optum; Outward Bound; PenFed Foundation, Philips; the Warrior Care Network and the National Institutes of Health, which is co-hosting a ‘State of the Science’ workshop in 2018 that will focus on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other neurodegenerative diseases. Operation Lone Star (OLS) will offer free health clinics during Monday, July 26 thru Friday, July 30, 2021 as an extension of a disaster preparedness exercise of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Local Police offered a procession of Tribute to Bristol’s own Gary Powell on Friday, March 2, 2018. As Pastor Sheets pronounced to the family and friends of Gary Powell on Fri. March 2, 2018, “This is not a funeral - this is a celebration of the life of a man who left an impression on everyone he met.” Family, friends and all whom he met in his journey on Earth learned a life lesson from him. His wife Linda Powell and his children, grandchildren and stepchildren will attest that he was also a well-loved man. He was the local Coin Man who could teach you something you didn’t even know that you needed to know. He was retired from the Bristol Police Dept., and he loved his old police car so much that he bought it when the Town sold it, and would drive it in the Homecoming Parade. At the family luncheon held Friday afternoon, the family raised their glasses of his favorite diet Red Pop in a joyful toast of love for him. Just the Facts: Gary R. Powell, Nov. 30, 1940 to February 24, 2018. He passed away at The Maples in Goshen, IN. He owned the Interstate Coin Exchange in Bristol and was a retired Reserve Officer of the Bristol Police Department. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bristol Indiana Police Dept. Reserves.

The Britcar Endurance Trophy was the First up and it was time to see who could claim that elusive Pole Position and to see if anyone else could challenge the Top Three Drivers Lets see how things turned out.
In First Place was the Pairing Of (Datum Motorsport's Axel Van Nederveen and Adriano Medeiros) in their Ginetta G55A with a Best Lap Time of 52:193 and an Average Speed of 64.75mph. Congratulations Axel and Adriano a Really Fantastic Drive and A Super Victory.
In Second Place was (SVG's Mark Lee) in his Ginetta G56A with a Best Lap Time of 52.086 and an Average Speed of 64.70mph. Amazing Drive Mark Keeping that Ginetta on the Track and Taking Second Place while Nearly Matching the Speed of Axel and Adriano. Well Done.
In Third Place was (Terry Stephens) in his Peugeot 308 with a Best Lap Time of 53.421 and an Average Speed of 64.50mph. Well Fought Terry a Fantastic Finish in Third Place and Staying Ahead by just over 11 seconds to the Pair of Jasver and Bryan in 4th. Amazing Job.

Jaggi Vasudev also known as Sadhguru, is an Indian yogi and mystic. He founded the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organisation which offers yoga programs around the world, including India, United States, England, Lebanon, Singapore, Canada, Malaysia, Uganda and Australia. The Foundation is also involved in various social and community development activities, which have resulted in the Foundation being granted special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.[1]

Early life[edit]
Born into a Kannada family[2] in Mysore, Karnataka on 3 September 1957 to Susheela and Dr. Vasudev, Jagadish was the youngest of the Vasudev's four children – two boys and two girls. A travelling fortune-teller, who was asked to predict the child's future, predicted that the infant would have a fortunate life and named the infant Jagadish which means lord of the universe. Sadhguru's father was an ophthalmologist with the Indian Railways and as a result, the family moved frequently. At a young age, Jagadish, or Jaggi as he came to be known, developed an interest in nature and would frequently make trips into nearby forests which would sometimes last up to three days at a time. At the age of 11, Jaggi came in contact with Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji who taught him a set of simple yoga asanas, the practice of which he regularly maintained.[3] Sadhguru states that "without a single day's break, this simple yoga that was taught to him kept happening and led to a much deeper experience later."[4]:39
After finishing his schooling, he graduated from the University of Mysore with a bachelor's degree in English Literature, standing second in his class.[5] During his college years, he developed an interest in travel and motorcycles. A frequent haunt of his and his friends was the Chamundi Hill near Mysore, where they often had get-togethers and nocturnal drives. He also travelled to various places in the country on his motorcycle. When he reached the Indo-Nepal border, he was stopped from entering Nepal because he did not possess a passport. This experience made him resolve "to earn some quick money," and just ride off somewhere where people couldn't stop him. This led him to open several successful businesses after graduation, including a poultry farm, a brickworks and a construction business.[5]
Spiritual experience[edit]
At the age of twenty-five on 23 September 1981, he rode up Chamundi Hill and sat on a rock, when he had a spiritual experience. Sadhguru describes his experience, "Till that moment in my life I always thought this is me and that's somebody else and something else. But for the first time I did not know which is me and which is not me. Suddenly, what was me was just all over the place. The very rock on which I was sitting, the air that I breathe, the very atmosphere around me, I had just exploded into everything. That sounds like utter insanity. This, I thought it lasted for ten to fifteen minutes but when I came back to my normal consciousness, I was about four-and-a-half-hours I was sitting there, fully conscious, eyes open, but time had just flipped."[6]:04:04 Six weeks after this experience, he left his business to his friend and travelled extensively in an effort to gain insight into his 'mystical' experience. After a year of meditation and travel, Sadhguru decided to teach yoga to share his inner experience.[7]
In 1983, he conducted his first yoga class with seven participants in Mysore. Over time, he began conducting yoga classes across Karnataka and Hyderabad travelling from class to class on his motorcycle. He lived of the proceeds of his poultry farm rental and refused payment for the classes. A usual practice of his was to donate the collections received from participants to a local charity on the last day of the class.[7] These initial programs were the basic format on which the Isha Yoga classes were later built on.
In 1989, he conducted his first class in Coimbatore, near which the Isha Yoga Center would later be established. The classes were known as Sahaja Sthiti Yoga and involved asanas, pranayama kriyas and meditation. In 1993, Sadhguru decided to set up an ashram to support the growing number of spiritual aspirants. After examining with various sites around Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa, he decided on a thirteen acre site situated at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains, thirty kilometres from Coimbatore. In 1994, the site was bought and the Isha Yoga Center was set up.[4]
Dhyanalinga[edit]

In 1994, Sadhguru conducted the first program in the ashram premises, during which he discussed the Dhyanalinga. The Dhyanalinga is a yogic temple and a space for meditation, the consecration of which, Sadhguru had stated was his life's mission entrusted to him by his Guru.[7] In 1996, the stone edifice of the linga was ordered and arrived at the ashram. After three years of work, the Dhyanalinga was completed on 23 June 1999[8] and opened to the public on 23 November.[9]
The Dhyanalinga yogic temple offers a meditative space that does not ascribe to any particular faith or belief system.[10] A 76-foot dome, constructed using only bricks and stabilised mud mortar without steel or concrete,[11] covers the sanctum sanctorum. The lingam is 13 feet, 9 inches in height and made of high density black granite. The Sarva Dharma Sthamba, located at the front entrance, functions as an icon of singularity, with the sculptural reliefs and symbols of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Shinto inscribed as a universal welcome.[12]
Isha Foundation[edit]

Sadhguru established Isha Foundation, a non-religious, non-profit organisation entirely run by volunteers. The Isha Yoga Center near Coimbatore was founded in 1992, and hosts a series of programs to heighten self-awareness through yoga. The foundation works in tandem with international bodies like the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.[1]
Social initiatives[edit]
He also founded Project GreenHands (PGH), a grassroots ecological initiative which was awarded the highest Indian environmental award, the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar, by the Government of India in June 2010.[13] PGH aims to increase the green cover in Tamil Nadu by 10% and has successfully overseen the planting of more than 17 million trees by over 2 million volunteers. In an interview to the National Geographic Green magazine, Sadhguru explained the impetus which led him to establish Project GreenHands: "In the year 1998, certain experts […] made a prediction, by 2025, 60% of Tamil Nadu will be a desert. […] I decided to drive across Tamil Nadu and see for myself if this is true. […] I realized they were completely wrong because it wouldn’t go to 2025, it would happen much faster according to me. […] So from ‘98 to 2003, 2004, I went about planting trees in people’s minds. And since 2004, we are transplanting those trees back to the ground."[14]
Action for Rural Rejuvenation (ARR), is an initiative under Isha Foundation, that is aimed towards improving the overall health and quality of life of the rural poor. ARR was established by Sadhguru in 2003 and seeks to benefit 70 million people in 54,000 villages across South India. As of 2010, ARR has reached over 4,200 villages and a population of over 7 million people.[15][16] He has also been involved with agricultural and farmers' associations to work towards resolving issues faced by Indian farmers.[17]
Isha Vidhya, is Isha Foundation's educational initiative, which aims to raise the level of education and literacy in rural India. There are seven schools in operation which educate around 3000 students.[18] The foundation has also "adopted" 26 government schools to reach out to students from financially constrained backgrounds, and aims to adopt up to 3000 schools.[19][20]
Yoga programs[edit]

After the establishment of the ashram, Sadhguru began conducting regular yoga programs at the Isha Yoga Center, including a course for the Indian Hockey team in 1996.[21][22] In 1997, he began conducting classes in the United States[23][24] and in 1998, he began conducting yoga classes for life-term prisoners in Tamil Nadu prisons.[25] From 2011, he began conducting programs with large-scale participation of up to 10,000 and 15,000 participants at once. These large-scale programs have been attended by over 75,000 people in total.[26][27]
The programs offered by Sadhguru are offered under the umbrella of Isha Yoga. The word Isha means the formless divine.[28] Isha Yoga's flagship program is 'Inner Engineering' where individuals are initiated into meditation and pranayam and the Shambhavi Mahamudra.[29] He is also conducting yoga classes for the corporate leadership to introduce them to what he calls "inclusive economics," which he says introduces a sense of compassion and inclusiveness into today's economic scenario.[30][31]
Sadhguru also regularly conducts Mahasathsangs in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka that include discourses, meditations and question and answer sessions with the audience. These Mahasathsangs are also used as platforms to encourage tree-planting activities.[32] He also takes spiritual aspirants on annual yatras to Mount Kailash and the Himalayas. The Kailash Yatra led by Sadhguru is among the largest groups to make the trip to Kailash, with 514 pilgrims attending the journey in 2010.[33][34]
Sadhguru also organises all-night Mahashivarathri celebrations every year at the Isha Yoga Center, which in 2013, were attended by an estimated 600,000 to 800,000 people approximately.[35][36][37] The night includes music, dance and guided meditation sessions. In 2013, performers included Carnatic singer Aruna Sairam, dancer Anita Ratnam and the band, The Raghu Dixit Project.[37]
In March 2005, construction of the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences (III) in McMinnville, Tennessee, USA was begun and was completed 6 months later. Sadhguru had decided to established III as a center for spiritual growth in the Western Hemisphere. On 7 November 2008, Sadhguru consecrated the Mahima Hall, a 39,000 square foot, free-standing meditation hall at the III.[38] On 30 January 2010, Sadhguru consecrated the Linga Bhairavi, a representation of the feminine aspects of the divine at the Isha Yoga Center.[4]
Participation in global and economic forums[edit]

Sadhguru has spoken at the United Nations Millennium World Peace Summit in 2000,[39] the World Economic Forum in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.[40] On 24 June 2013, he conducted a multi-religious session titled, "Interfaith Deliberations on the Universality of Religions" at the Isha Yoga Center, which was attended by representatives of various religions, and coincided with the fourteenth anniversary celebrations of the Dhyanalinga.[41][42]
In 2012, he was voted among the hundred most powerful Indians for his contribution in the field of environmental protection and for encouraging public participation in ecological issues.[43] He was also a participant in the 2006 documentary film ONE: The Movie. He has also been involved in one-on-one interactions as part of the "In Conversations With the Mystic" program with Anupam Kher, Jasti Chelameswar, Dilip Cherian, Muzaffar Ali and Tarun Tahiliani.[44][45]
In 2012, he initiated the Isha Insight program, which focuses on helping small and medium businesses scale up their business activities. The program was conducted by Ram Charan, with KV Kamath Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao Shankar Annaswamy, Vellayan Subbiah and Pramod Chaudhari also active in the program.[46] In an interview with Forbes magazine, Sadhguru, speaking about the motivation behind setting up the program, said, "While speaking at economic summits and to leaders in India and outside, I have noticed that the most serious issue people have is a lack of insight into what they are doing, or what they could do. That’s how we ended up creating this programme called Insight."[47]

Thursday 2nd June 2022 marks a milestone in the story of The Scottish Antique and Arts Centre in Abernyte, when they will be quietly celebrating 25 years since they first opened their doors.
Back in 1997, founders, Bob & Elaine Templeman proposed the new to Scotland concept of an antiques centre, occupied by dealers showcasing all ranges of antiques and curios. The antiques would be complimented by contemporary furniture, gifts and home accessories, providing a really comprehensive offering to those who wanted to furnish their homes with a bit of style.
Bob thought that Stout Brothers Garage in Abernyte, which was lying empty at the time, would be the ideal place to open their new business. Elaine thought it was far too big but, two showroom extensions later, we know who was correct!
The business opened with fourteen dealers in total. Turn the clock forward 25 years and there are now over 100 dealers represented. The restaurant and food hall have been developed significantly, and the Centre has become a popular meeting point, not only for the local community, but for those meeting up with friends and family from opposite ends of the country.
When it first opened, the couple had no idea that they would end up employing the equivalent of 30 full time members of staff on the site. “It’s our pleasure to work with an amazing team of people. They have helped us enormously over the years” they said. “They have, on several occasions, mopped up flood water which came pouring in from the surrounding tattie fields, they have trudged to the Centre through snow to check on the premises and they have served thousands upon thousands of customers, and they always manage to be so courteous and helpful. They have made our journey possible.”
They also didn’t realise that the antique side of the business would be so ethically in vogue after all these years. It’s wonderful that generation after generation can make use of beautifully crafted items without adding to the country’s carbon footprint.
The Centre is unusual in that it can cater for people in so many stages of their life. It can go from supplying a glorious engagement ring to a couple, to helping them with some artwork for their walls, and eventually providing the likes of a kitchen or dining table for an expanding family.

VAâs annual Brain Trust summit offers platform for innovations in brain health and head trauma
From a software platform for traumatic brain injury to a virtual reality device that assists Veterans with behavioral health issues, 15 competitors pitched a diversity of ideas during demo day at the Brain Trust: Pathways to InnoVAtion summit, hosted by VA on May 18 in Boston. The annual two-day event assembled more than 350 invited participants from the federal government, private industry, professional sports, medical research, caregivers and Veteran communities to collaborate and advance discussions around the prevention and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion. âWe have an unbelievable opportunity to accelerate the speed of change,â said retired Army Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho, CEO of Optum Military and Veterans Group, to the 15 industry and academic innovators who had come to pitch their ideas on TBI and head trauma to a panel of judges. âToday, the impossible gets challenged.âAfter reviewing a series of short presentations from competitors, the judges selected three winners: The Daptly Display, a gesture and voice-controlled assistant for the home or office; Save a Warrior: A peer-to-peer, archetypal approach for healing combat trauma and moral injury; and Recovery Acceleration Program for mild TBI by King-Devick Technologies. The winners will have the potential opportunity to implement and deploy their innovations with VA. âWe feel incredibly honored to be selected as a winner of the VA Innovation awards, which will further our opportunity to provide services to our Veterans,â said Steve Devick, CEO of King-Devick Technologies, who explained how his project would help Veterans impacted by TBI. âThe King-Devick technologies innovations are related to the fact that eye movements and vision are responsible for approximately 55 percent of brain function. âAs a result, implementing our recovery acceleration program by involving these pathways leads to faster concussions and TBI recovery when used with standard remediation. PizzaBuzz is, in a city so full of new restaurant openings, a very good idea indeed. The concept can be summed up (crudely) as âDIY Pizzaâ or "we have the toppings, you do the rest!" or "Subway, but with pizzas!". This doesnât really do it justice however and there is, obviously, much more to it than that - which Iâll now try to elaborate upon:
Essentially the idea is semi-self service pizza/food assembly. You take your place at the start of their "DIY pizza assembly lineâ and prepare yourself a pizza entirely of your own devising (though you donât have to do anything really asides from tell them what you want your pizza to be made of - it arrives pre sliced too, woo!).
You choose from 5 types of bases (gluten free options are available). These range from a âregularâ Margherita (cheese, tomato etc) to the Bianca (white sauce, mozzarella, parmesan) - plus a pretty fkn extensive range of toppings, divided into vegetables, proteins (i.e meats, fish) and cheese. Said toppings include such gastronomic curiosities such as bacon jam and wild rock shrimp. The recommended number of toppings for a pizza is about 4-5, though apparently one guy came in (drunk) on a Friday night once and ordered a £20+ pizza that contained EVERY SINGLE topping they offered. It ended up looking like a pyramid (hahahahaha!)
And, if you donât fancy coming up with your own pizza, their âsignature collectionâ of pre-designed pizzas come in around £10, and have names like Middle Earth and Etna. Once youâve picked your combo of ingredients, it takes them about 1-3 minutes to cook the whole thing in their wood fired ovens - so you might even be able to describe it as fast food. Takeaway is also an option. In the Southern Italian style, you can also get a burrata (and choose what ingredients to have it with, which is the recurring theme...)
As for the ambiance - PizzaBuzz lives inside the brand spanking new Alphabeta development on Worship street. On the inside it has a minimal vibe - almost the feel of an industrial space about it. Except theyâve made it more friendly with offcentre animal illustrations drawn onto the walls (pictured) plus their colourful logo and a recurring love of hexagonal things. Plus staff singing along to the music (not sure if this is an actual feature or if I just came in at the right time ^_^)
I must also tell you about the dough - which took a yearâs development and is quite something (theyâve got a video called âJane Doughâ in which the dough explains this all to you in a Yorkshire accent, lol). Anyway, it comes from a small mill in Oxfordshire and is, unusually, 50% spelt. I am told that this results in better texture, digestibility and mouthfeel than regular pizza. This is a big claim to make, and Iâm not sure I agree - the pizza I had, however, WAS very good and thatâs all I can say about that.
All in all, Pizzabuzz is taking a very good idea from another restaurant (*ahem*) and applying it to pizza very, very well. I wasnât surprised to hear that they have another site opening soon and can see them doing pretty well in future. Inherently, itâs fun, a bit silly, and provides you with a lot more choice than most of the (pizza based) competition. Definitely a place Iâd recommend to everybody (because who the hell doesnât like pizza, really?!)
FCA dealers offered more Jeeps to sell if they open a Jeep-alone dealership

FCA dealers that chose to open a stand-alone Jeep store will be rewarded with more than just a boost in Jeep sales. They will also receive more Jeeps to sell, Alistair J. Gardner, head of dealer network development, NAFTA at FCA USA tells Automotive Buy Sell Report.
In return for creating a Jeep-only facility, dealers will receive one unit of Jeep allocation for every $8,500 invested, says Gardner. The allocations will be in whatever model mix the dealership’s unit sales reflect and will broken out in 12 equal parts over the course of a year, he says.
“It will pay for a proportion of the new facility,” says Gardner.
Beginning in 2008, dealers were asked by FCA to invest in dealerships that brought Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram franchises under one roof. More than 90 percent of the dealerships now have all four under one roof, according to Ralph Kisiel, manager, sales and dealer network media relations.
Now, in a bid to grow sales of its most successful brand, FCA is asking its dealers to invest in another facility. In late 2016, FCA announced plans to have stand-alone Jeep stores at some of its 2,439 dealerships in the U.S.
Every FCA dealer can chose whether or not to participate in the stand-alone Jeep store program, says Gardner. “We aren’t going to force anyone to do it,” he says.
But, “the reality is we are targeting only those stores that really need to expand capacity. We need to increase sales dramatically,” says Gardner.
Jeep is facing a capacity squeeze in the U.S. partly a result of the forced closure of hundreds of Chrysler dealerships when the automaker driven into bankruptcy in 2009. It left the automaker short of not just sales space, but also service lanes.
“Unfortunately, during bankruptcy we reduced the dealership count by 800,” says Gardner. “That is 800 less service departments. We need more service capacity.”
Jeep sales are already rising, just not fast enough.
According to FCA, in 2015, Jeep brand sales in the U.S. were 872,908 units. The Jeep Cherokee was the best-selling model. In 2016, sales grew to 926,376 units and the Grand Cherokee was the top seller. Through August of 2017, 548,833 Jeeps have been sold, with the Grand Cherokee again ruling the roost.
FCA is heavily reliant on Jeep sales, not just in the U.S. but globally. The Jeep brand accounted for 41.3 percent of all FCA sales in the U.S. in 2016, and 46.3 percent of global sales, the automaker says.
China, the world’s largest vehicle market, is a crucial Jeep market. Despite media reports, FCA has no plans to sell the Jeep brand alone to a Chinese company, Gardner says. “We would never sell Jeep without Chrysler, Dodge and Ram,” he insists.
And if the Jeep brand were to be acquired, it would still need a dealership network, he points out.

Two of the Jeep stand-alone stores are already finished; some 22 should be completed this year. Ninety more dealers have signed letters of intent. FCA aims to have 300 to 325 Jeep stores nationally by 2020, says Gardner.
“The results coming off the first stores were great,” he says.
The Jeep stores that are already in operation saw a 30 percent boost in sales in the first three months and a 10 percent sales boost in the first eight months in a flat market, says Gardner.
The Jeep stores must meet a facility image requirement, but the size will be different depending on the dealership’s sales volume, says Gardner.

The Performance Automotive Network of Ohio just had a soft opening for its Jeep-only store, in Centerville, Ohio. The grand opening is on September 23.
Shane Dever, vice president and director of operations for the Cincinnati/Dayton markets, says Performance had an empty building that had been a used car center. It was remodeled to become the Jeep store.
He is looking forward to selling not just more Jeeps, but also an array of Jeep accessories. Selling accessories is “the whole idea. It is a lifestyle brand,” says Dever, whose family owns the dealership group.
Indeed, creating a unique customer experience is “the number one reason” FCA decided to launch the Jeep-only stores, says Gardner. “We want [the customer] to have … all Jeep, all the time.”

While the new Jeep stores may help dealers sell more Jeeps, they will hurt the value of the remaining Chrysler Dodge Ram dealerships, say buy sell professionals.
“Surely if this is to be rolled out as a national initiative it would apply downward pressure on the blue sky value of an FCA franchise,” Len Bellavia, senior partner at Bellavia Blatt & Crossett PC, tells Automotive Buy Sell Report. “The expense of construction would have to come from somewhere – and blue sky is the logical category.”
The two truck franchises – Jeep and Ram – are the most valuable part of the multi-franchise dealerships, points out Fred O’Halloran, a consultant with MD Johnson, Inc.
“When you cut that in half, taking off Jeep, I believe the two individual stores are worth less than the four-franchise dealership,” he says.
The stand-alone store may also take a bite out of the dealership’s income, says O’Halloran.
“You have split your operating income for the two stores, but your overhead costs increase because there are two stores,” he says.
Then there is the question of adding bricks and mortar at a time when the retail sales model may be changing, says Nancy Phillips of Nancy Phillips Associates Inc.
“Separation in all its glory will require yet another conglomeration of bricks and mortar all in an era looking out to an unforeseen future when it comes to the bottom line of facilities investment and how vehicles may be sold five to ten years from today,” she says.
There is also the question of state franchise laws, which “are set up to make it equal for everyone who owns the franchise,” says James Taylor, managing director of The Presidio Group
Gardner argues that the Jeep stores are not an expansion of the network. Rather, they are an expansion of the existing stores within that network.
He also wants to clear up the story floating around that FCA said it would add an additional 400 stores in the U.S.
“We have never said to anyone that we want to add 400 stores,” says Gardner. “We have no plans to add 400 stores.”
As for franchise laws, “I guarantee you it will not do anything to the state franchise laws,” says Gardner. “The first thing we did was take it to the National Dealer Council and make sure that they were comfortable with it [and that it] didn’t break any state franchise laws.”
What FCA is doing is preparing its dealers to sell “a staggering amount of Jeeps,” he says.
“Our job here is to prepare the network for an expansion of the Jeep volume in retail. Our direction is we expect to sell a lot more Jeeps even if the market is flat or slightly down.”

Recently I offered to scan some photo's for a guy at work. He was unsure who the photographer of these is, but there are from his collection and now from my collection. In January of 1995 there was a head on collision of the Wisconsin Central as a local was leaving town and a road train was coming into town. Here is the next day, maybe 2 days later. As they were moving some of the cars from the derailment to the rip tracks, they decided to tip over....well as the photos show. It's one quick way to crush a car!
