1930s "New" Gillette Otto Roth Incorporated Stamped

Here we have a 1930s NEW Gillette Otto Roth Inc Stamped safety
razor, this vintage collectible has a thin common bar handle with
Otto Roth Inc. stamped on the outside of the bottom blade plate,
Made in U.S.A. and numbers. The razor is in very good
to mint condition. This razor was made after King camp Gillette
left the Gillette Safety Razor Company and Otto Roth assumed
control.
This highly collectible vintage razor is sought after by many
collectors and if lucky they find one that is in almost mint
condition as this one is. This razor marks a turning point in the
Gillette Safety Razor Company which at this point in time is
historical fact. The razor has no bent or broken teeth, no
scratching or gouging to the outside or inside of the top blade
plate, the bottom blade plate is just as beautiful as the top.
The handle has no loss of color, scratches, gouges, damage to
the knurling. It is an absolute collectors dream. Also included
is a box of Gillette NOS Blue Blades, the box has not been opened
but the original cellophane is a little bit worse for wear, also
included there is a Rubie DE collectible razor blade. On the back
of the unopened NOS blade envelope reads Otto Roth Inc. Newark
N.J. U.S.A.

George Galloway speaks in Toronto- " From Gaza to Afghanistan - Resisting war, occupation and censorship."

On September 27, 2010 the Federal Court of Canada issued a ruling that exposed political interference of "the highest levels of government" in trying to keep former British MP George Galloway out of Canada, on the illegitimate basis “…that the main reason why the respondents sought to prevent Mr. Galloway from entering Canada was that they disagreed with his political views.” The judge stated that, “...It is clear that the efforts to keep Mr. Galloway out of the country had more to do with antipathy to his political views than with any real concern that he had engaged in terrorism or was a member of a terrorist organization,” Following the ruling, the way was cleared for former British MP George Galloway to finally speak to his Canadian supporters after a delay of over a year.
On October 3d, 2010 George Galloway entered Canada for the day. He took the opportunity to speak to a Toronto audience about his fight to overturn the ban, the ongoing struggle to end war and occupation in Palestine, Afghanistan and other regions around the world. Over 500 enthusiastic supporters came to the public meeting entitled, " From Gaza to Afghanistan - Resisting war, occupation and censorship" at Trinity-St. Paul's United Church on Bloor Street West, Toronto.
After comments by his legal team and James Clark of the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War, among others, George Galloway was given a fiery introduction by Ali Mallah, vice-president of the Canadian Arab Federation in Ontario. He then took the podium, speaking eloquently and at times humorously about his political past, which included serving 25 years as an elected member of the British Parliament, his activism, motivations and desire for peace in the Middle East. Galloway declared victory over the political opponents in the Canadian government who had sought to bar him from the country on false grounds that he had supported terrorism by allegedly giving aid to Hamas. The Canada Border Services Agency cited his involvement in a convoy that delivered clothing, medical items, relief money and vehicles to the Hamas government, which Galloway claims that while he does not support it, he does recognize that Hamas is the democratically elected government in that region. He also denied any charges of ant-semitism. One politician in particular attracted his ire- Jason Kenney, Canada's immigration minister. Donning Canadian Maple leaf mittens after telling the crowd of his youthful career as a boxer, he then challenged Kenney to "go five rounds" in a boxing match, leaving the alternative option open of a public debate on any subject. This inspired yet another standing ovation from the crowd, one of several during his speech. Galloway plans to sue Kenney for branding him a terrorist, saying, "Let me make this clear, I am not, nor have I ever been a terrorist or a supporter of terrorism or any kind of security threat to Canada," Any money gained from the lawsuit will be donated to support an anti-war movement in Canada. He announced plans to return to Canada this November for a 12 day, 10 city tours. But first, he's off to join a convoy to bring aid to Gaza. And to more cheers from his supporters, Galloway left the building and headed back to the airport under the close escort of his security team.

This is a photograph from the 4th annual running of the Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs New Year Road Challenge which was held in Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday 10th January 2015 at 13:00. The race is organised by the local GAA club called Lough Lene Gaels. There were two races on offer today - a 10KM road race and a 5KM road race, fun run, and walk. This is one of the first road races in the midlands of the New Year 2016 and attracted over 300 runners, joggers and walkers. As this was a community orientated event families were especially welcome in the 5KM race. The race was organised to raise funding for the development of the GAA pitches for the Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs. Overall this was a very successful event with a very large field of well over 300 participants in both races combined. The great local effort was exemplified by a very big local contingent from Collinstown and neighbouring areas. The 5KM race was an out and back course on the Collinstown to Fore Road. The 10KM was also on an out and back course with a deviation between 2KM and 7KM for the longer race. There were several tough hills but an equal amount of down-hill. For most participants both races were the proverbial race of two halves with the outward section down-hill and wind assisted with the return leg from Lough Lene to the finish (about 2.5KM in total) up hill and with a stiff sharp cold breeze in the face. Hot and cold refreshments were provided in the Lough Lene Inn Pub afterwards with prize-giving.

Collinstown is about 11 miles northeast of Mullingar in Co. Westmeath. The dominant geographical feature of the area and of both races is the beautiful Lough Lene a large freshwater lake close to the village. The water in the lake is internationally noted for the purity and clarity of its water and Lough Lene has regularly been awarded the blue flag status for water quality from the European Commission. It is well known amongst anglers. It covers approximately 430 hectares with water is measured to depths to 20m.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

Based on a 24-acre site, Catalyst Inc. is at the heart of Northern Ireland’s hi-tech economy.
A graving dock, or dry dock, is an enclosed basin which can be flooded allowing a ship to be floated in, then drained to allow it to rest on blocks for maintenance or repair. Typical use of dry docks were for the cleaning, removal of barnacles and rust, and re-painting of ships' hulls. Queen’s Island is home to three graving docks, all of which survive today.
Catalyst Inc (formerly known as the Northern Ireland Science Park) was established in March 1999 to create a self-sustaining, internationally recognised, knowledge-based science park in Northern Ireland offering a commercial and research driven centre for knowledge-based industries. The park is located in the Titanic Quarter, Queen's Island, Belfast and hosts a range of international and local technology related companies. It currently has six buildings in operation offering 210,000 square feet (20,000 m2) of workspace. Over 3,000 engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs and executives work in Catalyst Inc campuses in Belfast, Derry and Ballymena.
The Science Park was initially conceived under the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, which designated funding for such a park in Northern Ireland. The not-for-profit NISP Foundation was founded in 1999 by the University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast (with both Vice Chancellors, Gerry McKenna and George Bain being founding board members), along with representatives of the business community. Most initial funding came from UK government economic initiatives, with the intention that the park would become self-sustaining. It was planned that the 24-acre (97,000 m2) Queen's Island site would eventually be occupied by twelve buildings, including an Innovation Centre for small tech firms and start-ups, the Queen's University Institute for Electronics, Communications and Information Technologies, as well as larger companies and light manufacturing firms.

After everything had quieted down, Marcus Sureshot, William, Harald, and the mysterious man made camp on the far side of the river. While William and Harald kept watch, Marcus started a conversation.
"So, who are you, and what was going on back there?"
The man frowned, "I'm just one of many traders on this river. Just my luck to catch some bandits."
Unsatisfied, Marcus pressed on, "Why would they target your barge?"
"Somebody must have tipped them off," grunted the man.
"By the way, what is your name?"
"Charles of Lenfald."
"Really? A fellow Lenfel. How encouraging," smiled Marcus, "I'm Marcus Sureshot, my friends are William and Harald."
"Pleased to meet you all, you came in the nick of time," thanked Charles.
"Not soon enough to save your friend, I'm afraid," apologized Marcus.
"Regrettable, but the blame rests on me," rebutted Charles, "the boy was too eager."
"Now," he continued, "As the last hour has proven, I am in need of protection. I would also like to reward you."
"We can protect you," said Marcus, "Consider our fee passage on you barge."
"I would be grateful," admitted Charles, "but I must reward you further. Thus, some of the gold I am transporting will go to you and your men at the end of the voyage, in Grahnhaven."
"You are too kind," blushed Marcus,"I will accept your gift."
With that, the two of them shook hands and set about preparing their camp for the night.

Tour #1: Arts, Innovation and Sustainability Tour of Central San Francisco
This 1.5 hour walking tour will be lead by James Hanusa, Green Economy Advisor for Stakeholder Forum and New Initiatives for Burning Man Project.
The tour will start at the award winning, newly built San Francisco Public Utilities Commission headquarters, key features include onsite clean energy generation, 100 percent waste water treated on site and advanced daylight harvesting.
The electric vehicle pilot project at City Hall will be the next stop with both car share and city vehicles in the program. We will walk through the planned Resource Conservation District at Civic Center on our way to UN Plaza passing the Federal Building, which is the first naturally ventilated office building on the West Coast since the invention of air conditioning. The building is also an example of how building design can help slash emissions of greenhouse gases.
We will proceed down the emerging arts and innovation district of Central Market Street visiting multiple local arts groups such as art and technology collective, Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, and cultural avant garde organization, Burning Man Project. The 5M innovation complex will be the next stop with short interviews with developer Forest City and leaders from resident organizationTechShop, Hub Soma and Intersection for the Arts. Our tour will continue through the Yuerba Buena Gardens area including the Center for the Arts, the SF Museum of Modern Art, including a quick chat with the W Hotel Manager about his building, which is one of the first LEED Silver for existing buildings in the world.
Our final stop is the gallery at the San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association‘s LEED Silver headquarters.

VA’s annual Brain Trust summit offers platform for innovations in brain health and head trauma
From a software platform for traumatic brain injury to a virtual reality device that assists Veterans with behavioral health issues, 15 competitors pitched a diversity of ideas during demo day at the Brain Trust: Pathways to InnoVAtion summit, hosted by VA on May 18 in Boston. The annual two-day event assembled more than 350 invited participants from the federal government, private industry, professional sports, medical research, caregivers and Veteran communities to collaborate and advance discussions around the prevention and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion. “We have an unbelievable opportunity to accelerate the speed of change,” said retired Army Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho, CEO of Optum Military and Veterans Group, to the 15 industry and academic innovators who had come to pitch their ideas on TBI and head trauma to a panel of judges. “Today, the impossible gets challenged.”After reviewing a series of short presentations from competitors, the judges selected three winners: The Daptly Display, a gesture and voice-controlled assistant for the home or office; Save a Warrior: A peer-to-peer, archetypal approach for healing combat trauma and moral injury; and Recovery Acceleration Program for mild TBI by King-Devick Technologies. The winners will have the potential opportunity to implement and deploy their innovations with VA. “We feel incredibly honored to be selected as a winner of the VA Innovation awards, which will further our opportunity to provide services to our Veterans,” said Steve Devick, CEO of King-Devick Technologies, who explained how his project would help Veterans impacted by TBI. “The King-Devick technologies innovations are related to the fact that eye movements and vision are responsible for approximately 55 percent of brain function. “As a result, implementing our recovery acceleration program by involving these pathways leads to faster concussions and TBI recovery when used with standard remediation. Additionally, caregivers can measure defects in eye movements, which may lead to dosage changes in chronic degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. ” During the event, VA officials announced key partnerships with several influential organizations, including: Amazon, which donated 100 Echo devices with Alexa voice service to VA’s Assistive Technology Labs to help meet the needs of Veterans; Cohen Veterans Bioscience, which is coordinating efforts with VA to integrate data across dozens of labs to facilitate breakthroughs in trauma-related disorders; Booz Allen Hamilton; Comcast; Concussion Legacy Foundation; GE; IBM; Infinite Hero Foundation; Johnson & Johnson; Optum; Outward Bound; PenFed Foundation, Philips; the Warrior Care Network and the National Institutes of Health, which is co-hosting a ‘State of the Science’ workshop in 2018 that will focus on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Volcanic Tablelands offer exceptional bouldering opportunities, because of their unique geologic features formed by the cataclysmic volcanic eruption of the Long Valley Caldera over 700,000 years ago which left a highly dissected landscape of Bishop Tuff. Through time, this once barren tableau has evolved to support a unique and fragile environment that takes a keen eye and time to appreciate. The Volcanic Tablelands are situated at the ecological cusp of the Northern Mojave and Great Basin floristic Provinces where plants and associated wildlife species combine to make this an unusual and biologically diverse landscape. It has taken millennia for this environment to evolve and it will take responsible recreational users to preserve it into perpetuity.
In the early 90s, the Tablelands were visited only by local climbers. By the late 90s, thousands of climbers were coming from all over the world to try out their climbing skills on the many boulder problems the Tablelands offer. With this dramatic increase in use, the BLM and the local climbing community has developed a climbing management philosophy to protect the natural resources while preserving access to climbing opportunities. The Bishop Paiute Tribe, a partner and co-manager of the Tablelands help provide oversight. Friends of the Inyo, a local conservation non-profit, has also partnered with the BLM to host annual events at the Tablelands to mitigate the impacts of recreational use. Friends of the Inyo and the BLM partnered the last few years to lead interpretive outings exploring the long cultural history of the Volcanic Tableland, including petroglyphs and other native artifacts.
