Day 26 of my 31 prompts from 31 lists drawtober!

Today's is "Knives" from twitter artist Creature_Cave's elemental griffins list

I was going to do something dramatic, like a griffin with blades for feathers, but ended up with this derpus. I guess I have a thing for animals with knives

Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 9th October.

I had no clear idea about today's photo, but went a walk looking for leaves for a possible future photo, and of course I took my camera with me. Buzzards fly over my house on an almost daily basis, but I've either got the wrong lens on when I see them or even if I have the 70-300mm on, it just doesn't really reach far enough for the height they fly at. Same situation today really when I was walking across the fields, but managed a shot where I haven't had to crop toooo much.

I'm not entirely sure how I ended up with this photograph?

This is the concept that I was after and I set out determined to post something straight out of camera but ultimately that proved too difficult ... too much chance of knocking over the chef's blow torch as I became overcome with the fumes from the deodorant I was using for the headlight.

So I gave up and shot the three parts separately then merged them in Photoshop ... then blurred the wheels ... then played around with the headlight beam ... and the overall colour ... and removed the stand that was propping the bike up ... and ... and ...

The motion blur of the bike is SOOC at least - that was achieved by taking a shot with flash then flicking the camera right.

Other than that the line between photo and digital art is pretty blurred on this one ;).

A lovely sunny morning, but I was out shopping. This afternoon the sun came out briefly and I went for a short walk, but within 5 minutes the sun went in and stayed in.

This little courtyard opens off the main road running through Sleaford. The date stone reads 1637 but use was made of some much earlier materials, mainly from the C14th.

Something completely different...for me, at least. Instead of the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees that you usually get, today you've got....a car. Or at least part of one.

This morning we had a heavy shower and then the sun came out, lighting up all the droplets on the car.

Went to the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire yesterday. The only line in the world where you can see 2 steam trains passing each other. The Stationmaster came along with his Halloween cupcake and was happy to pose.

I haven't had much time today. As I'd cooked Sunday lunch for 7 I thought a shot of the cooker was quite appropriate :-)

12 October. Mali the lurcher and two of his children Minx and Mara (who are half sisters). Aged 10 years, 3 months and 3 years respectively.

Now who would like a bit of tarmacing done on their drive?

This shot was taken looking under a now dissued railway bridge that spans the river and footpath in Ipswich - there is a short section of track that still remains on the bridge but it has not carried a train in years.

Floss has been in a massive mood ever since Woody was featured last week so I couldn't let the month end without a shot of her too.

This is an abstract shot showing the top of an art installation in Time Square in Newcastle. I first shot this last Thursday then deleted it by mistake so today the sky was the right shade of blue for me to have another go ;).

2010 Challenge, October. Theme of Spooky. Taken at the cemetary by my house. Taken 22nd October 2010

I had another indoor photo planned for today but that can wait for another day now.

I was busy in the garden when I noticed a spider sitting quite openly on its web so I went to have a look at it ... at which point I noticed Percy above sat in the middle of his web on the other side of the shed. He was a reasonable size and his markings struck me as particularly clear so I dashed off to get my camera and flash which was still mounted conveniently on one of my tripods with a softbox attached. This was perfect and allowed me to set everything up very quickly and take a shot. I used a couple of wimberley plamps (quite flimsy but already proving very useful) to hold a sheet of blue card behind the web as the sky was quite cloudy and washed out.

I fired off just 5 shots before I accidently tore his web down bringing everything to a premature end ... I feel very bad about this - I was trying so hard to be careful but I can only guess that there was a long strand anchoring it to the wall that I hadn't seen and one of the times I ducked underneath to adjust the backdrop I caught it on my hand.

I hope he's managed to rebuild it by now! To the flies of the world however ... "you're welcome"!

PS: If this is not a cross/garden spider then please let me know ;).

Shopping mall Christmas decoration don't look so good on a gloomy morning!

However... Made it! 31 pictures done.

The lamp in the picture was the only lighting used for this.

Sometimes, you really need to break the rules. Street photography is usually B&W, but this was sooo much more powerful in its original version! No post-editing done.

My last entry for October 2012.

I'd planned to take a shot during dinner with friends in the evening but a couple of bottles of wine later I'd forgotten all about it so rewind to earlier in the day when we'd popped to the park.

I'm doing something a bit different this year for Drawtober. I'll be drawing my prompt randomly from 31 different lists created by artists as alternatives to Inktober.

Today's list is from Autumnical on Twitter and the prompt I got was "Smoke"

twitter.com/autumnical

A very dull, very windy day, and by the time I took this shot it had started to rain as well. Where are the lovely autumn days when you need them.

Not the shot I was trying for but the light was going rapidly and I didn't get a chance at anything else!

It occurred to me I hadn't taken any photos of the lovely Autumn colours we're having at the moment so went for a walk on the coldest day we've had! Unfortunately we didn't get the promised sunshine. These berries seen overhanging into an alleyway.

Yet another miserable day. Picked up a box of coloured straws and took a few quick shots when I got home. Not brilliant but colourful.

A walk (rather than a Segway) in the countryside today... much less dangerous for me!

Today I did a bit of prep for a couple of photos which is a good job as one of them wouldn't have worked out so I need to rethink it. Had thought about doing a still life from my list tonight, but then saw this critter in the garden. The sun shone very briefly to create a shadow, then I spotted the cat eating something he shouldn't and by the time I came back the spider had gone. This is a harvestman spider, official name "Leiobunum Rotundum". Usually nocturnal, so lucky to see her out in the open.
