So, here are my October Challenge pictures this year. Its not been easy, and some are not the best, but I overall I'm pleased I managed to complete the Challenge! Hope you like them.
Also...thanks for all the comments throughout! x
It's almost impossible to avoid a Halloween shot in the Challenge at this time of the month, and as it turns out my final 3 images are all Halloween-inspired...!
We carved out our pumpkin today in preparation for the weekend, the kids have their costumes ready and are raring to go!
I spent a bit of time today photographing a couple of flowers that were in good condition but when I spotted this sad specimen I decided that it had more character and nicely summed up the time of year as well ... very Autumnal!

For my Glitz Lounge comrades to empathise, sympathise and understand why I simply cannot decide between Poison Ivy and Raven for our October 2008 Challenge.
I have two Yellow Bell plants in my back yard and they're blooming prolifically at the moment. They have the most beautiful clusters of yellow flowers with red stripes in the interior to guide the bees in.
... but they won't stand still!
This cheeky chap was wandering about our hall quite happily, blissfully unaware of our two cats prowling around nearby. I decided to "rescue" it and bring a little bit of the garden indoors for it to enjoy ... although I did spoil that by then mithering it for a while.
I set everything up before bringing the weevil into play but once I did he simply would not stand still and eventually I got a shot simply by leaving him alone then coming back later once he had settled and working with the positioning that he himself had chosen - that worked quite well as once he was settled he would stay put for quite a while.
The setup for this shot was an SB-900 mounted on a tripod and pointing vertically upwards with a softbox attached without the front screen. I then balanced a diffuser panel on top and the leaves on top of that. The SB-900 was set manually to a lowish power although I cannot remember what and I have since changed it. I then fitted a couple of SB-R200s to the lens and fired them in TTL mode. The lens was a 105mm macro with a 20mm extension tube attached and the shot was taken at 1/250 @ f/11

These took me by surprise and I only had my 50mm lens on, so it's not brilliant but I liked it anyway.
