I thought I'd try my hand at oil & water today ... it's harder than it looks!!!
I got a few that I liked and I introduced marbles into the equation later which gave an interesting extra layer of abstraction.
However, quite early on I took this shot and whilst I didn't notice the silhouette of a man at the time it jumped straight out at me on the computer and picked itself.

I can spend forever photographing insects and in fact did this afternoon. It was a dull, miserable day and there was only the one fly, and he was very patient with me. It was a relief when he finally flew away and I could stop. But wait! There's another one, and this time more interesting as he's blowing bubbles. It's a shame it was so dull and I couldn't get a greater DOF, but I'm quite pleased with the reflection of the Sedum plant in the bubble, especially as it was a very small fly and an even smaller bubble.
Insects are one of my favourite subjects and I'm surprised I've got to the 5th of October before I've done one.

Accompanied by my friend, I went to capture a shot for my Through The Year project, intending to use it also for October picture a day, but I kind of like this one of my friend, a keen iPad photographer, with the setting sun reflected on her tablet.

What a miserable day after the recent nice days. I ventured out into the drizzle to pick a flower for today's shot.

Today I've been for a day of pampering with a friend at Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire. By pampering I mean I've been in the Thermal Spa, had a swim, a facial, a back massage and a Dead Sea Mud wrap. Lovely relaxing day interspersed with wonderful food, cups of tea and a wee glass of red.

This is one of my prized possessions. I've owned it for at least 29 years and if you look closely you can see my name and class written on the Rawlings label. That was from when I took it into school in the first year of secondary school (Year 7 for the younger audience!). It was a gift from my Aunty Ann in Los Angeles. I have the ball and Louiseville Slugger bat somewhere in the house too!

I saw this sunflower in bloom with the lovely reds of an autumnal Virginia Creeper behind it.
The sunflower was in full sun whilst the background was in the shade so a 'fake' HDR process helped to bring out all of the colours.
Taking the case literally in this instance. Not much time today so a quick still life shot with my phone.

A view I’ve taken before, but the clouds are different right? And this time there are fisherman, and this time we have movement magic! It’s not a video, it’s an animated photo. Photo 13/31 for the October picture a day group.

Strange to see a rabbit on the St Rose Hospital grounds in Henderson. It was not easily frightened, let me take his photo, then returned to nibbling on the grass. Taken with a Lensbaby Double Glass2 lens.

I'd been out earlier in the day with my DSLR but probably the best shot I got was of a cat I met down an alleyway. I was going out in the evening to see the Festival Players perform "Calendar Girls" at the town hall, and knowing it was going to be a rainy evening thought there might be some reflections. I don't really get much opportunity for night photography but didn't want to take my DSLR with me, so took my compact instead. My composition was limited by having to find a post to rest the camera on and using the self timer. Also I forgot to manually focus, but I can't get on with that very well on the compact anyway. Overall, considering the limitations, I'm reasonably pleased with this. I exposed manually.

It was a long day on Friday, lots of driving and not a lot of photographic opportunities... this was pretty much the first time I sat down so this is it I'm afraid.
I spotted this shot on the way home - ideally Earl Grey would be facing the windows but it escapes me right now how to make that happen.
My original idea was to convert this to B&W but when I first did so (in Adobe RAW) I wasn't bowled over with the result so I undid the conversion and boosted the blues to enhance contrast in the sky then I opened it up in PS to add a B&W adjustment layer there instead but ultimately I decided that I preferred this version. I hadn't noticed at the time how well the cloud framed the monument and fitted into the middle column of windows and I like the contrasts it creates.
I have little doubt that this will be over-processed for many people's tastes ... but I like it ;)

You may notice that this shot was taken with a Panasonic LX5, this one in fact after Al was kind enough to lend it to me for a few days to try and convince Mrs F we "need" one :)
We found this chap in the garden this morning so James insisted we take him to Decoy Country Park and release him into the lake to prevent him becoming a cat's lunch.
Woody was in his element today as part of the beating team on a local shoot. It poured all day but we had a great time nonetheless... Come the evening we were both exhausted so this is the day's shot, him laying on the floor shattered, and me laying on the floor snapping him.

I'd gone out earlier in the day to shoot some autumn colours in nearby gardens only to find them apparently closed, so came home and decided to do a still life. A while ago I'd tried Rembrandt lighting on a hairdressers modelling head but could only get the effect with a dark background. Today I brought Barbie into service and tried using lighter background and a reflector instead of a flash. Rembrandt lighting is side lit and also getting a triangle of light on the opposite cheek.
