This is a Grade II listed building and architecturally it is an important house, since it belongs to a short period in English architecture, that of William and Mary who reigned from 1689-1702. This house was built 1698. Still in private hands, but sadly in a very poor state of repair.

Got to Teignmouth beach just before dawn to test my newly rebuilt camera on the Queen Mary 2 in the early light. I forgot that Canon completely reset the settings so these could have been better shot in RAW, but not too bad.
Not much time today for photos and after an uninspired walk along the edge of a field, this caught my eye on the way back home.

Combining three challenges in one:
Take an image a day for October
Take an image a day with a theme in mind
Take an image a day with one of your two fixed focal length lenses

An outing with my U3A photography group today took us along the River Soar from Mountsorrel to Sileby Lock.
Looking beautiful, but less than a month ago this church was desecrated by a group of teenagers from a nearby town.
We put it all back and cleaned up, but the Police are yet to interview the morons we suspect are responsible.
Day 24 October Challenge
The huge elm tree in our village, measured rather a lot of years ago now, as the largest surviving elm tree in the country. The theory is, that if they get to this sort of stage of maturity, then the dutch elm disease doesn't affect them.
I heard there was an Airbus A330-243 Government of Canada aircraft arriving at East Midlands Airport today, a rare visitor, so that was going to be my photo for today. However on my way to my preferred shooting spot I got waylaid by this lovely patch of poppies. It almost made me late for the aircraft shot. However the poppies won for my October Picture a day. (Aircraft shot in photo stream).
The poppy shot is a double exposure but with nothing much around to use as a second shot, I used the sky which gave the photo a matte like effect.

The color in this photo actually came from the photo itself. The unprocessed photo looked plain silver, but I was able to pull out a great deal of color in Photoshop.

Day one and had to make do with a scrambled snap before bed after a long shift at work... Must do better.

Not a lot of time today so a quick trip to the cemetery to look for fungi. Not too much about as it hasn't rained for a few days but found these. Clustered Bonnets?
Getting in a little practice although obviously my handwriting needs a little improvement, but in my defence this was on a very small scale.

A busy day for me today and it was very dull out there as well so I decided late afternoon to do a still life for today's photo. It wasn't working out for me and then a little bit of late sunshine appeared so I popped out for my shot.

24 October.... Ok the weather is dull, there are no events/ things to attend/ photograph and I had only 30 minutes to do the 'shot of the day' for the October Challenge. Time to fall back on an old favourite!
By popular mandate... this is now the first choice image for the day.
A First Great Western train passes through Dawlish along the seafront... surely the best bit of Railway in England. Did I mention my trainspotting anorak? 0.8 second exposure with no filters... although I did plan ahead and bring my tripod for a change. View On Black

10th October 2013. Just about squeezed into the theme as a semi circle? The weather was very changeable this morning. This rainbow pano was taken just as I was going into work, again with the phone. Processed a little in Snapseed. Off out tonight to see Paul Daniels with the kids (hope they will like it........, but not a lot!)
My Victoria Sandwich may not look the best (I use those paper cases to save on the washing up), and maybe I put too much butter cream in (is that possible?) but by all accounts it tastes just fine and isn't around for long.
The farmer stopped for a chat so I asked him if he'd mind posing with his tractor.

I knew I wouldn't have much time for photography today, so took a "just in case" photo earlier, and I've ended up needing to use it. A bowl of tomatoes given to me by a friend, with the sunlight just catching them where I placed them on the draining board.
Using this photo also for my 114 Pictures in 2014 Project, No. 20. Fruit.
23 October. You'd be forgiven for thinking it was still summer in Cornwall

The sun came out this afternoon long enough for me to get down to the local BMX track which has a concrete bowl area for the trick riders... I got a great series of shots and will definitely be going back there. View LARGE On Black
Mr Maverick is not impressed. What exactly do you mean when you say "I've run out of inspiration so let's shoot the dog..."?

I hardly ever go to Derby but I've been today, the second time in less that a week. Photo walk with a couple of photography friends. This is the Tiger Bar.

There's an large Oak tree in the next garden to me, a fair way away, but I get a few of their leaves in the autumn. They are usually covered in Spangle Galls. This leaf was floating in the bird bath.
"The Spangle Gall is caused by a tiny gall wasp, Neuropterus quercusbaccarum, and can be found on the underside of oak leaves in early autumn. It is common and widespread, and a single leaf can host up to 100 galls, each containing a single larva. The galls fall to the ground and can be seen around oak trees during autumn; the larvae continue to develop through the winter, and emerging as adults in April."

I can't get the burst shot to work on my phone... I really hate software upgrades! Fortunately my finger tip timing seems to still work OK. I think the gun was bigger than my daughter, but she enjoyed the clay shooting instruction.
Having set up my still life and taken my shots, loaded on PC etc. the colour of the flowers seemed to clash with the vase, the background looked wishy washy and clashed with the base. As I'd packed everything away, there was only one way to go- process process process!
