18 October. I've taken shots from this place many times... but the waves today were incredible so good that there were no trains coming down the line! Very windy and raining hard.. so taken with an umbrella overhead.

Ok, ok, I know I've made this shot before here but that was six months ago now...

You can lose a lot of time doing oil and water photography, view your LCD and think you've got a got shot and then be disappointed when you get in on the PC. And of course you've packed up all your gear by then and there's no time to do it again. So whilst I like the overall pattern and shapes of this oil and water shot I know there are faults and I can do better. Maybe later in the month I'll have another go. It does look best viewed large I think.

So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run
So when you hear this autumn song
Yesterday 100's if not thousands of people at East Midlands Airport were disappointed when the Vulcan veered off before it got to EMA so it was just a pinprick in a cold and bleak grey sky. The reasons for this vary according to what you read. Well done to the Vulcan people though, they altered the schedule and it came back to us today. A much brighter day too. I guess there are thousands of similar photos out there, but this is my memory of the last time I'll see her in flight.
My new vase bought at an arts an crafts festival, and a few chrysanthemums from the garden. This was an exercise in using ambient light, and flash and my triggers (not in flower arranging, which is not my strong point).
Photo 21/31 for the October picture a day group.
Lots of people are having their go at an image to commemorate the sad passing of Steve Jobs... so I thought I'd add my one in too.

When the car went into "Limp Home Mode" I expect that the poor owner of this Range Rover didn't think that the car actually meant "on foot matey!"
I was only a little miffed as I had just cleared up all the rubbish and fly-tipping from this road on Sunday. Unusal to see a £90,000 mess, it's usually just coke cans and McDonalds rubbish.
The architect's sketch from the 1930s vs the same room today. Not much has changed, apart from biomass-heated radiators instead of the electric bar fire.

Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 8th October, and also for my weekly contribution to the View 52 Group.
www.flickr.com/groups/view52/. This is my Week 41 shot.
I went a walk around the village looking for today's photo, and made a last minute decision to walk a bit further to the bridge over the river in the hope that a heron might be sitting there waiting to be photographed (it wasn't). This man was coming towards me then stopped. Thinking he looked a bit shifty I crossed over to the other side of the bridge to take a photo of a narrowboat with smoke coming out of it's chimney and logs on its roof. Doh! It was the man's boat and he was just getting more logs for fuel. He said something to me about if I took his photo it might break the lens, which opened the door to me taking his photo. I realise now of course that when he stopped before I think he wanted me to take his photo then.
I've tried bleach bypass processing on this.
For my View 52, I'm doing a different theme every 4 weeks and for Weeks 41-44 I'm going to do Autumn. Whilst I have taken shots that more obviously shout "Autumn" I've decided to go with this as my best shot of the week as gathering logs in for Winter is an Autumn activity.

Day 23 October Challenge
I promised an 'after' picture of Hec the boat, when he had been planted with the spring flowers, but of course, the pansies are not in flower and the bulbs are very sensibly lurking in the soil, so I decided the lights he has on him in the evening would be much more interesting!
Another picture of Clyde: I had such good intentions of capturing autumn landscapes, but it was a very grey day so I gave up. #apictureadayforamonth #octoberchallenge #amonthin31pictures #catsofinstagram
I got a swan shot for the 365 project the other day... so it's time the October Challenge had one too.
Post man Pat.... i.e this is a very long white post and rails fence that he is repainting.

Today I've been out walking with my rambling group. A lovely warm day but very breezy. Here we are just walking towards the village of Melbourne in Derbyshire. Taken with my compact which 6 years on is starting to seem quite poor quality now despite having on high jpeg settings.

Went to Calke Abbey today (National Trust place in Derbyshire) so took plenty of photos. Chose to upload this one for my daily photo as motion blur not a technique I've used much. This particular tunnel links the kitchen with the brewery. There are several tunnels at Calke, their main purpose being to keep the servants out of sight of the gentry.
22 October. Surfing on Polzeath Beach, hard to make a choice out of the great number of shots I took today.

I'm having to think outside the box for photographs at the moment as my 5D DSLR has gone back to Canon for a complete rebuild and service. It's had so much use in the last 8 years that I couldn't even read the serial number to fill in the form. The phone camera can take some good detailed shots, but there are limitations. This morning I would have taken a lovely shot of a Peregrine Falcon eating his "Pigeon Surprise" breakfast with my 100-400mm lens, the phone was out of its comfort zone.

Been feeling not too good today so have spent the afternoon on the sofa with a blanket. About 8 o'clock though hauled my ass up of that sofa as there was a photo to be taken for the October Challenge. Had no clear idea and did a few still life shots I wasn't happy with, and then remembered the cheese grater. Given a better frame of mind I would have tried to get all the holes in focus.

A bit of an ambitious trip out to look for comet Lemmon, but much too cloudy, so a low light shot of the pub instead.

It's that time of year agin, the cider apple crop was good despite the very dry summer. We are back at work creating our award-winning cider again.
Still very, very rusty having not picked my camera up for a few years properly! Do bare with....I'm sure I'll get my mojo back 👍
Cider apples after they go through the mill are then pressed. The by-product is pulp, which goes to cattle feed so we can have happy cows again. (They were annoyed when we restarted the cider and took away their apples)
